Ealing has started to announce their re-signs:

Andrew Davidson - mid-season signing from Gloucester. Looked really good. Pleased with this.

Will Montgomery - enormous back row/2nd row, with oodles of potential. Still young, and really would like to see him mature and avoid silly errors.

David O'Connor - Very solid professional with years of experience with Ulster, excellent squad player.

Rayn Smid - Surprised by this one to be honest. He has been a club stalwart for six seasons, and served as captain for 4, but the number 8 is definitely showing the impact of many injuries, and missed the second half of the season. I thought he might hang up the boots, but nope.

George Davis - Entering his sixth year with the club, still relatively young as Ealing was his first professional stop. He is developing into a solid prop.

James Gibbons - Solid prop in his second stint at Ealing.

Ross Kane - Another Ulsterman. He looks very imposing, but has not blown me away. Also, could be Alun Walker's twin.

Jimmy Roots - youngish Kiwi front row who has had some trouble getting into the squad.

Scarlets can confirm that Harri Williams, Griff Evans and Iestyn Rees are to join for next season

Harri Williams was once touted as the next, next Welsh Scrum half. Originally from Essex apparently.

Ah, but is he innocent? (One for readers of a certain age, perhaps).

Nottingham sign scrum half Will Yarnell from Doncaster Knights. Any Donny fans know if he’s any good?

He seems to have potential and needs to have more game time, unfortunately at the Knights he was 3rd/4th option so only ran out a few times. He is capable and given the right opportunity he could do you well

This thread should become really interesting in the next week to ten days as teams start pre-season. Jersey have announced about a dozen departures but no new recruits. The coaches like to manage the news on this stuff but when the players start pre-season training the Newbies are usually spotted in the Co-op or Waitrose. Jersey probably have a hooker, a couple of second rows and wingers/FB (perhaps one who kicks goals) to fill gaps left by departures.

Pirates have announced 12 departures but no signings yet. We suspect quite a few DORs or loans from Exeter but they have their own issues to deal with first.

How uncertain life is for players and clubs.

A number of pros have lost employment this season, Wasps, Worcester and Irish.

Many Championship clubs have holes to fill, but are not fully professional teams. So said players will need careers advice outside the game, in the hope they can still play their sport, but having to balance with other income.

The uncertainty for the 12 businesses, is the RFU using the Franchise word. They need clarification (if it has not been given), to 24/25.

Will current Championship Clubs be the bulk of the 10 franchises, or are their plans that mean, geography, finances will prevent clubs obtaining a franchise.

I will as a spectator try to enjoy every 80 minutes of 23/24. But if anyone at the RFU has a decorum of responsibility start clarifying what’s happening. Remember you are only custodians of the game, and your responsibility is to leave the game in England in a better state than what you found it, for clubs, coaches, players and the many of us shelter under umbrellas in the middle of winter. Thank you.
The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.
