I know it has been wet, but the pitches at Bath and Leicester are terrible. Mind you the quality of the rugby has not been nuch better. Far too many passes not going to hand leading to knock ons or touch.

Today's pitch at Exeter is the worse I have seen all season. |

Pitch at Ealing is perfect - can’t think why?

But.
Grass pitches, yeah? I was amused by a Sarries comment along the lines of 'at least with the season being when it is, we should miss the mudfests' (wording very much from my suspect memory, but sentiment is correct). I can't imagine that the pitches at Cov, Ealing, Ampthill, or Donny (at least) would give such issues.

Yeah, well Cov's grass pitch used to turn into a quagmire after a light shower.

Too right. I remember Coventry's playing surface was terrible.

While their pitch may have been a bit suspect most of us would envy their home crowds and facilities when in Nat one

Thank-you Rabbie. Cov have never managed to obtain local training facilities, and this was a major part of the reason that the pitch was over-used, both at Coundon Road, and then at The Butts. The AGP has solved that. Last week's pre-season friendly would not have gone ahead on grass, but the artificial pitch was cleared, and the granular layers had not frozen solid. |

Quite. Training, Rugby League, Association Football, concerts, even fireworks.
All adds up to sh***ed out pitch Of course, inadequate drainage didn't help during inordinately wet weather, but the flipside was that it was also very very dusty in dry periods. Like it or not, the AGP has addressed all these issues (apart from an installation problem that caused a drainage issue, since corrected by the installer), and I haven't seen a single grazed knee or elbow either. It's an income generator too - in 'normal' times.

Clearly no need. Several days if sub-zero temperatures, match day at -4°C, and a referee's inspection confirmed that the granular structure had not frozen into a solid lump of ice, and hence was fit to play. Tbf, it was a benefit U hadn't thought of when it was installed.

I thought this thread was about poor playing surfaces so I don't understand Kimbo's rather childish response. HI may not have had the playing strength (money!) that Coventry enjoy but if you had come up Brantingham Park for your away fixture a couple of seasons ago, you and your players would have experienced a real 'treat' i.e. a rugby match on a decent playing surface. Next.........

I failed to get to BrantinghamPark - but did manage to watch Cambridge's game on Estuary TV. Excellent coverage.
