The RFU have ruled that Roths last minute conversion attempt at Luctonians was actually OVER the bar and consequently Roth have been awarded a 12-10 win which now leaves them 8 Pts behind Hull with a game in hand.

I am not sure what the context is here, but have just looked at the video and the ball seems to go very clearly over the bar, with TJs flags straight up...!

The context being that going into the last play of the game, Roth trailed Luctonians 10-5 but got over for a try which Matt Minogue converted only for the referee to disallow the conversion indicating that the ball had gone under the bar, a view confirmed by Luctonians.
Roth successfully appealed and subsequently awarded a 12-10 win instead of a 10-10 draw. The relevance of this means that Roth are now only 8 points behind Hull with a game in hand and visit them a week on Saturday, the outcome of which could possibly be key in deciding who secures the single promotion place from National 2 North.

Now that justice has been done, it sounds like Roth want promotion.
I know that the Roth management team want to be back in Nat 1 but not so sure about the Roth supporters. Hull's committee say they don't want promotion but they do really. Good luck.

Enjoyable as N2N is I think everybody would be fine with promotion.
As somebody posted on a different thread, the Roth model is geared around a semi-pro 1st team & recreational rugby/mini juniors as a largely separate entity. Nat 1 has to be the goal if you’re run that way. Or rather I suppose, a higher level of rugby that will attract better crowds, sponsors, hospitality etc to bolster funds. Whether Nat 1 does that or just ramps up travel costs is open to question… I’ve just seen that Harry Dunne’s red card from the Lucs game has also been overturned at hearing. A learning experience for the officiating team….

If Redruth hold on to win Nat2S and are promoted, there will be some serious travel bills next season in Nat1, especially if Hull go up as well.

I am sure Redruth have also played Tynedale more recently. Edit - in the 08/09 until 10/11 seasons The big problem is the ever reducing travel payments. In the past, Redruth would have got most if not all the actual travel and overnight expenses back from central funds. Now they - and every other mainland side - need to provide the bulk of that from club funds, which overly penalizes clubs from the geographic margins. The islands do get some special treatment, due to the exceptional nature of their location.

I note NCA are not making a judgement on whether the ball was over or under the bar. I am sure this week, the referees will be fastidious about checking all last minute kicks.

There is effectively no travel funding for National league clubs anymore.
One of the reasons that clubs on the periphery are disappearing from the National Leagues. No teams from the far North East or North West. Only Redruth from Cornwall when once there were 3 teams in the National Leagues.

I only recall one season with three Cornish clubs, and I am not sure Mount's Bay's problems were to do with travel. Would be good to see you next season, as after last week it does not look like we will go up. We have new changing rooms now, with locks.

The 12-10 result now stands...but does anyome know why the referee changed his mind?? The two assistants raised their flags and the referee gave it as over, then had a discussion with the ARs and changed his mind. What was their reasoning for the change if both ARs raised their flags?? Do they have a time limit on conversions in the NCA leagues? Edited by Count Ford - 25 Feb 2022 at 18:17 |

From the NCA Website :
The National Two North fixture between Luctonians and Rotherham Titans – which was played on Saturday February 19th – was originally declared as a 10-10 draw, but the Rugby Football Union can confirm the result has now been corrected to a 12-10 win in Rotherham’s favour. (Photo Credit: Gareth Siddons) The RFU have been in dialogue with National League Rugby and both clubs after Rotherham scored with the final play of the game to make it 10-10. The conversion was taken, the Assistant Referees raised their flags, the referee indicated that the conversion was good and blew the whistle to indicate full-time with the score 12-10 to Rotherham. He was then alerted by the ARs and went across and had a discussion with them. After this, he returned to the players and informed them that he had changed his decision and the final score was 10-10. National League Rugby reviewed the incident against the RFU laws and regulations. From this, it was clear that National League Rugby couldn’t overturn a decision made by the referee during the game and that the referee can only change his decision if his Assistant Referees make him aware of something he was not aware of when he made his decision. However it was not clear whether he could do so after the game was over. National League Rugby then referred the matter to the RFU who in return referred it to the RFU Laws Committee for a final decision. Their conclusions were
This therefore means that the league table will be adjusted to correct this to a Rotherham victory. The outcome sees the Titans move to within eight points of league leaders Hull in National Two North. |

Rothman2,
A wrong has been righted and justice has seen to be done.
One pair of eyes were considered to be better that two pairs of eyes This incident should never have gone this far. |

Very true. It is further backed up by the video of the ball going over the crossbar.
It is also telling that Harry Dunne’s red card has also been rescinded. I understand the conditions were horrendous and whilst we may have been expected to win more comfortably, it was a commendable performance given the fact we played the entire 2nd half facing a gale force wind with one man short. It will be an interesting game when we play you next week. Your performances this season have been outstanding and you will be clear favourites. Anyhow we have to get past Stourbridge first and that will not be easy. |

Feel sorry for the ref at Lucs/Roths - acts wrongly/outside the laws to change the result, and the result he changes it to is in itself wrong, and gets a red card wrong - could you have a worse day? Hopefully he'll bounce back, and yes justice has been served, which is good...

Bit of a double slap down for the poor referee, I hope he takes it all in his stride and is out on the pitch again this week.
