Well that’s a surprise. The RFU have made him available for Scottish game
Ford and Smith not available due to injury. “Two weeks mitagation for early admission of charge and exemplary conduct during hearing “ WTF doesn’t every player on a charge do that. Even Stuart Barnes in Times said he must miss Scottish game. No matter what course they send him on he wii do it again

Yet again the RFU show they are unfit to run the game.

Yes (assuming they are properly advised) and they receive mitigation as a result. I would have placed a wager on this being the result for OF before the hearing started, not because it was him or there was anything untoward but because it is the way the disciplinary process and the sanction table work. For the record, I am neither a Farrell nor a Saracens supporter. |

If only Webb-Ellis hadn't given them the ball back!

The RFU-mandated 'tackle school' isn't going to change the way Farrell tackles/hits – by now it's instinctual, muscle memory, and possibly condoned by coaches. The game is now predicated on the 'dominant tackles' that see defensive lines nullify attacks and try to dislodge the ball in contact. It's why commentators talk about collisions and hits. I think it's been a slow move since the 1990s, especially the 1997 Lions' emphasis on 'offensive defence' and big hitting, with greater influence from rugby league and the success of Shaun Edwards' blitz defence systems with Wasps and Wales. |

Loads of people have been getting very worked-up about this... & in a lot of cases it seems an intrinsic dislike of Farrell and/or Saracens comes to the fore. Personally I thought ban of 3-4 games was about the right end result in the context of the 'tackle' itself and Farrell's past disciplinary brushes (of which there were only 2, 1 from 6+ years ago). The tackle-school idea is questionable, as is the loophole of including the Bristol game in his ban, but all other nations work the system thus, and I don't think it's the outrage others are claiming.
Marcus Smith mentioned - hopefully he came through comeback match ok and will be available for national duty in Feb

Smith played well, but Quins need to work on restarts and line-outs.

It’s just typical English old school. Wear a suit be contrite in front
Of a panel which has at least a Barrister or solicitor and you will get 2 weeks off. You have been convicted by a referee and TMO rugby personnel Do your time and come back more knowledgeable

Not really. If you read most of the RFU disciplinary reports, it is common practice to for players who admit guilt early and show remorse that they get 50% off their sentence. The RFU are quite consistent. But its the coaching course that seems a little out of the ordinary

What could the coaching course offer different than a professional rugby club offers its players?

Lack of embarrassment - not being coached how to tackle in front of your team mates. It's fine for Mini rugby squads, but not for a professional international player! Wilkinson was a good tackler, clearly started in Mini rugby! 🤣🤣

If you read the reports concerning Premiership players, the CIP is common practice for them. It is not available down the levels, so only Level 1 players get the option.

The whole thing sounds about as much use as a speed awareness course.

Well I'd favour sending Farrell on a speed awareness course. As long as it is running at the same time as England's first Six Nations match.
