A nice slow build-up to this year's tournament.

Exeter's in-form winger Immanuel Feyi-Waboso looks set to choose England over Wales in a boost for head coach Steve Borthwick before the Six Nations.

The Cardiff-born 21-year-old represented Wales at age-grade level and had been tipped for a call-up to Warren Gatland's squad.

But it is understood he will attend an England alignment camp this week.

While that is no guarantee he will make Borthwick's final Six Nations squad, it is still a significant move.

Borthwick confirmed last week he had spoken to Feyi-Waboso and praised his excellent form for the Chiefs this season, with Rob Baxter's young side impressing in both the Premiership and Champions Cup.

"I name a squad on 17 January and what the players need to do is play well and earn their place in the selection. It is a competitive mix," said Borthwick.

All teams at this year's men's Six Nations are set to have their players' names on the back of shirts for the first time.

The move, hoped to help attract casual fans, follows that of the women's tournament last year.


Well...France obviously.

England don't have a good reputation of consistency with wingers or even a game plan to use them, he would get better remaining Welsh.

He's an interesting one.
Rugby has always been something to do before he becomes a doctor.
If he chooses Wales he'd need to change university halfway through a medical degree.

Good luck to him but as a welshman I'd prefer him in red.

Wales have a history of doctors, Adam Roberts recently and of course JPR - among many others.

I think he has already switched university, he was apparently at Aston for pre-clinical, which made sense with an academy place at Wasps.

But according to the press has moved to Exeter University, presumably for clinical now he is based there.
While unusual, it is not unheard of.

He had to restart in Exeter Uni.
Hence Chiefs offering a 5 year contract to cover the whole period of study.


The most recent example of this is Hal Amos who came home from RWC19 saw out his Cardiff contract and joined the NHS in his late 20s.


As an aside I suspect Educational costs are outside the salary cap so nicely done there Exeter.

Players to wear smart mouthguards to help manage concussion

The custom-fitted mouthguards will deliver live updates enabling medical staff to determine when off-field head injury assessments are required.

They will be worn during training session as well as matches.

You are correct Richard

Players may only transfer once, such that no Player can ever represent more than two Unions for the purposes of Regulation 8.2. 4.3 Applications should be submitted to the World Rugby Regulations Committee accompanied by all relevant supporting documents by the Union to which the Player wishes to transfer.

Watching the Edinburgh v Gloucester match at the weekend, the Scottish commentators mentioned Zach Mercer switching allegiance to Scotland several times.

The basis for this being he lived in Scotland for a number of years as a youth.

However, as far as I can see, he could only play for a country that he or his parents/grandparents were born in?

He was born in England, his dad in New Zealand- I couldn't see any information about his mother or grandparents.

Ellis Genge says he has recovered from a hamstring injury before England's Six Nations opener with healing powers akin to Marvel superhero Wolverine.

England head coach Steve Borthwick is set to name his squad on Wednesday and Genge, 28, says he will be fit to face Italy on 3 February.

The Bristol prop was injured on club duty in December but could return for the derby with Bath on 27 January.

"I'm all good. They said the hammy has healed," said Genge.

"They said miraculous, like Wolverine," he added, referring to the fictional X-Men character who is able to repair damaged tissue quickly.

"They said there is still a little bit of scar tissue that is a little bit immature, so we'll just tick away at that this week. But I should be fit.

They have Irish-born Kyran Bracken at 9, but I can't be the only one who remembers Welsh-born Dewi Morris playing at 9 against Wales, who themselves had English-born Rupert Moon as his opposite number.

It's the modern world.

My children would be eligible for 3 countries (neither me or wife are English but live here).
That's before moving and qualifying on residency grounds.
