With 11 Caldy players in the starting XV , what did you expect?  Wink

Exactly. The nature of the beast this season with caldy and sale in the top 2 in National 1. Rugby in that area is obviously strong.

Cheshire are bound to be strong this year with an abundance of Caldy and Sale players, but they can potentially make the final having played neither Yorkshire or Lancashire (with all due respect to Leics and Northumbria) the stronger of the other counties in the North. I'm not a fan of this format

What is the format?

I think that counties only play 2 games rather than 3. In south Div 1, Kent are only going to play 1 since Surrey have pulled out completely apparently. So what does that mean? They get the full 5 points and a 28-0 win?

Anyone who doubts the importance, credibility or relevance of County rugby should have been at the Yorkshire v Lancashire match yesterday. Two totally committed County Squads battling it out in the sunshine, in front of a large crowd at WP Leeds. The photo in The Rugby Paper says it all.
Yorkshire won 33-31 thanks to a last minute penalty score and now have max points fron their 2 games but, they have to wait on Cheshire's next result before knowing if they will progress to Twickers. Odds are against them following Cheshire's massive win against Leicestershire.

21 players in the Cheshire 22 from the 1st and 2nd placed clubs in Nat 1, playing mainly lads from Level 4,5 and 6. Added to the fact that Cheshire play Northumberland at Home next week I would expect Cheshire have already booked their Hotel at Twickenham. RFU Comps and the Organising Committee got this one badly wrong schedule-wise

I would imagine you are going to get Semi Pros at levels 3 and 4 against players purely amateur levels below that.

Cheshire streaming their game on YouTube and currently 43 points up on Leicestershire early in the second half.

I have no idea what the format of the tournament is but Cheshire don't seem to be playing Lancashire or Yorkshire this year?

And it would have been for Surrey as well, if the men had bothered to turn up!

Well done RFU fixture persons.
Yesterday East Midlands Men and Women played at Northampton Old Scouts against their Warwickshire counterparts.
A situation that cannot happen for every county, but as it did here, having both games same place, same day, same time is a sign of joined up thinking…or an accidental fluke.
I would like to think the former.

Same for Yorkshire yesterday at Northumberland and next week against Lancashire.

I would also like to think, reducing the league sizes in the mens game, that besides the optional club cup games end of season that the County championship could start mid April and the first weekend of May would be the end of group stages,

I might be trying too apply too much sense to RFU fixture planning, and apologise if that is naive.
The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

Yorkshire beat Northumberland 52-40.  They made hard work of the win but Northumberland pushed them more than I expected.
