Eastern Counties site says they will publish the structure for level 9 and 10 in the county later this week.

The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

The issue with the Championship Cup is that it's a) the same teams you've just played in the league and b) a rubbish format due to the number of clubs involved. Wouldn't you like to see Worthing either given the chance to test themselves against higher league opposition or welcome a club like Pirates, Cov or Bedford - with their travelling hordes - for a big day out?

Sorry Mark I am old enough to remember when we had a national cup and the bigger teams did not put in their strongest teams neither did the smaller clubs for that matter as it was an exercise in injury avoidance

I do remember some dreadful games in the late-90s against the likes of London Nigerians and New Brighton, but they tend to get forgotten because we had a quarter-final at ODP against Northampton the year they won the Heineken Cup. So yeah, swings and roundabouts, I guess...

Regarding the placement of 2nd XV's - clubs were asked at which level they wished to apply so this may answer the question about Cinderford & Taunton 2's
Plus the reason there are so few Nat1 2nd XV entries is that they were either vetoed by their CB or deemed the highest permitted entry level of 7 to be too low or simply don't run a 2nd XV. I have no doubt entry criteria will be widened following the 3 year review Edited by Thatbloke - 24 May 2022 at 08:09 |

Explains the positioning of some teams. But I still don't think it's right or safe to put semi-pro reserves up against amateurs at county league level (take Kent 2 for example, Westcombe Park, Sevenoaks and Canterbury 2s up against the likes of Park House and Vigo)

Depends on the region - the strength of feeling against it in Surrey and Middx where excellent Merit table systems exist suggest there won't be a change after 3 years

Three points I think
1) There isn't always a direct correlation between strengths of 1st XV's and 2nd XV's 2) I don't think there's much danger of 2nd XV's being "loaded" with semi-pro players. 20 man match day squad required at Level 4 and above and 26 fixtures to fulfill - there might be one or two in there but most will be rested/rotated to protect the longer term fitness of the semi-pro squad 3) I didn't examine every single league but in my skim read I didn't see any League that contained more than two 2nd XV's so in any case it's not something that you'll come across every week - might be more prevalent in the South West where its been in existence for a while?

"A flattening of the pyramid (increasing the number of leagues at each level, as below) will help meet the needs of players by reducing travel for matches, helping club sustainability by reducing travel costs."
LSE Prem vs Regional 1 South East Just plugged in destinations into Google maps and gone with the most likely route I'd use, so may not be precise (from TWRFC to & return...) but... Total away mileage - LSE Prem 21/22 - 1506.2 13 matches - average mileage (round trip) - 115.9 Total away mileage - Regional 1 South East 22/23 - 1499.2 11 matches - average mileage - 136.3 |

I have just looked at the RFU website. No mention of the reorganisation, still leading with the England Training squad for the current session, posted seven days age.
Shows how much the RFU the game. As a matter of interest how many PR people do they employ? A definite area to save money

Without the restructure you might have lost Sevenoaks & Dorking and gained Shelford & Camberley, which probably would have resulted in a reasonable increase in travel under normal circumstances.

North Walsham also promoted to N2E - so a "longer" trip up there no longer required.

Yup. No complaints here. Just a wry smile at, "reducing travel for matches, helping club sustainability by reducing travel costs." I appreciate that we're just one club and that it probably leads to reduced travel for many. |

Both clubs went for level 7. Both clubs think that level 7 isn't a high enough standard, but if you don't sign up in the SW you will be left in the wilderness fixture wise.
So why one level 7, one level 8??? Befuddled |

Fixtures likely out week commencing June 6th while the RFU determine which DoC's are responsible for which leagues now the leagues have been determined.

Just had an email from YRFU re: 2ndXV Merit Tables for next season.
It rightly states that there will be opportunities for the 1st & 2nd XV's to travel together but they are leaving it up to the Clubs to organise. Quite correct. It also states that the 1stXV fixtures will not be out until 16th June!

Believe the DoCs may have discretion over when fixtures are issued once the leagues have been allocated.
