Onto week 24:

Last weeks results made the bottom of this league oh so more interesting!

All of the sides picked up points, all closed the gaps, some climbed out of trouble.

Lets be honest the biggest loser, well they did not even play!

It was Blackheath, the mighty “Club” do look to be in big trouble. With only 2 home games left against Park and Rams and having played more games than those around them, even the massive win bonus being offered to the players of £500 a man, might not save them, they have had two weeks of that offer on the table and nobody has cashed in yet, so I wonder does the saving of £20k mean they will raise the win bonus to £1k a man  from this week! The other main fact is, the 3 sides possible in trouble DMP, Plymouth and Leeds all have TJ’s to play, that could and I would say will be the deciding factor!

At the top, well last weeks games means we are as we were, so to speak. Sat week will be massive with the City Slickers playing Caldy, but thats 7 days away, a lot can happen in 7 days, Kieran Power might even learn to crack a  post match smile in that time, but for now we are talking about this week.  I cannot see any change this week, apart from Sale not playing meaning the Cambridge home win and 5 points  should close the gap to 3rd. Cityslickers should pick up 5 at Well Hall and Caldy will have enough at home for plucky Taunton. Cindy v Rams will be decided by the width of a fag paper, hence Im going a draw

At the bottom DMP will have much too much for TJs, could be an experience for some of the TJs players going from their ground, minus 21 m studs and a £5 Uber ride to the pitch, to playing at DMP in a 20k seater stadium!

Leeds is an interesting one,  I think there is ever chance that they could pick up a win at Chinnor as the home side will still be sitting on the naughty boys step, having had their wrist slapped by big brother.

Plymouth will hopefully be able to travel with 20 this week, which if I am honest is total joke for a side in National 1, twice this year when they have not been able to have loan players from Exeter or CP they have gone with 18 to a league game, somebody wants to get that squad sorted out if they survive as that is not a good advert for either the club or rugby at this level, they will want or be expecting at best nothing more than a bonus point from Cambridge, Albi’s cup final comes the week after when 5 is a must v TJ’s.

Stortford I fancy, now the ground is firming up might just do a job on Moseley. Moseley could well be suffering from a nose bleed being in 7th now after Chinnor’s -5! When was the last time that happened?

So we have

Birmingham Moseley v Bishop's Stortford   1-4

Blackheath v Rosslyn Park     0-5

Caldy v Taunton     5-1

Cambridge v Plymouth Albion     5-0

Chinnor v Leeds Tykes     1-4

Cinderford v Rams     2-2

Darlington Mowden Park v Tonbridge Juddians     5-0

As always, just a bit of fun, followed by a disclaimer so we don’t all get upset!

Having read your speed on the DMP v TJs game then seeing your prediction - I am a little confused?

Birmingham Moseley 2 Bishop's Stortford 2 Glass of Rose and I can't even remember how these teams play. But seem to recall Moseley doing OK of late.
Blackheath 0 Rosslyn Park 5. RP best team in the league but chasing fools gold in Championship rugby. Blackheath may well survive now that everyone is betting against them, but management may pay a price
Caldy 5 Taunton 1 Taunton will take a point, 2 would be heaven. Caldy flanker to get a hat trick
Cambridge 5 Plymouth 0 Chiefs return to Albion, but Norey won't and he's importantly scored a few tries. Am I alone in being incredulous in the geriatric nature of Albion's 2nd row? Maybe another challenge for management after the hairdryer treatment a few weeks back? Doesn't look a happy ship?
Chinnor 2 Leeds Tykes 4 Leeds to get something out of a very close thing. Their forwards are starting to front up.  Did I say I like the Leeds fullback?
Cinderford 1 Rams 4. Rams impressive last time out, very robust and fancy a final dash for the top should others slip. I like their brand.
Darlington Mowden Park 5 Tonbridge Juddians 0. Sad for Tonbridge, in a year of so few relegations across the league. It's criminal that they should pay the price. Unfortunately they let too many close games get away.

Plymouth can only muster 18 again for the 3rd time this season.

Although there are no hard and fast rules against this, and fair play to the 18  that have put their hands up and  are playing.

But surely the NCA and RFU have to look into the club and the ability going forward, with no 2nd xv and relying on loan players, to field a side.

Its not a slight against Plymouth, just a fact

To be honest, given Covid's disruption since 2020 I was expecting a lot more of that this season so in some ways surprised as a league we've got off as 'lightly' as one club going under (at 1st XV level) and one scrabbling around for players.

Not that that's any comfort if you're a Plymouth or OEs fan.

Totally agree Scrumtime.....in my experience a club is only as strong as it's 2nd xv. Tough for Albion but this is another indication that Rugby is going the wrong way.

On a positive note I have just read Caldy's preview for tomorrow's match against Taunton. They really bigged up Taunton's set up, hospitality and pre match food. I didn't go but everyone who did was glowing in their praise for what Taunton provides and according to one the best players' food ever.

The wooden shack and end of season pot noodle (a lot of pre covid 2019/20 hold over stocks) is going to be a shock for their officials.......
