Well, those departures may weaken the Vikings and Saxons! None o them played a 1st XV match for Richmond.

I wonder if this will affect Taunton, who had a number of very good DR Chiefs last season?

Seven DRs from Chiefs to the Pirates is not really any different to previous seasons. Patrick Schickerling started last season at
the Mennaye and ended it playing for England. Edited by cheshire exile - 29 Jul 2022 at 11:36 |

Mark Bright - incredibly talented player...... I remember him scoring a try at Redruth after running back towards the ruck and taking a short pop pass off the 9.......doesn't sound too spectacular but maybe I should say the pop pass was taken on the halfway line!!!

extraordinary - 44-y-o within a couple of weeks of the season starting. He'll be playing with/against players more than a quarter of a century younger than him...

Just six years to go to equal Graham Dawe's record of playing Championship rugby at 50!

You'd imagine there is a plan to recruit a few more players... with just 2 hookers on the books ,1 yet to start pre-season training you'd think a minimum of 3 or 4 is required for a champ campaign.

Yes Richmond recruitment looks very lightweight, especially when you contrast with RP . . . but then I suppose it is all about budget unfortunately. It will also be interesting to see if they get the usual 2 DRs from Quins as presumably these will now go to Scottish?
On a seperate matter I believe Doncaster Knights have or are putting a planning application in for the requiste number of empty seats to qualify for promotion?

I think it may also be regards to how they manage recruitment, whilst some clubs are more active. I think RFC tend to wait for players who are moving to the city or leaving uni to come to them. Every player there is on a match fee up from £200 + £50 a win to £260 + £60 a win this season, so it wouldn't in theory cost them anything to sign an additional player in a certain position. RP look like they're determined to to lift N1 with the money they are throwing behind their recruitment this season abit like Blackheath in N2

Perhaps you would have seen this news weeks ago if you had looked at earlier posts - the reality is, we need to have the planning consent in place to ensure that "IF" we manage to attain promotion we can go ahead and put in place said facilities (I think initially these would be temporary stands, we have been assured these could be erected between the end of the Championship season and the start of the Premiership season). This is probably belts and braces - after the RFU implied that potentially next season a capacity of 5000 would suffice which Castle Park has already - but as we are all aware the RFU have been known to speak with "forked tongue" before so best to be safe. Please note I did say IF we attain promotion - our big spending rivals in the smoke (Ealing) have made some incredible signings (again), and a lot of our competitors have done so too, I think this season coming is going to be very challenging. Doncaster retained a lot of the squad from last season, a few were let go / retired and a handful moved on to higher leagues - the Knights have 21 players retained that were in the squad last season so the Team before self ethos should prevail again this season.

Ealing recruitment is excellent but I really hope Donny and others give them a run for their money.

frankly - assuming that's correct - that's a pretty flexible stance by the RFU. The FA is very doctrinaire on these things, whether it's temporary or not, and whether it could be finished by the start of the next season or not, they do their ground audits in Feb-March for the following season. If the structure isn't there and finished, then you've failed the audit. Kidderminster Harriers got caught by this in 1993-4. Won the conference at a canter, ground on track to be (and indeed was subsequently) finished in time for kick off of the first match of the next season. Promotion refused because it hadn't been finished for inspection in February 1994. If the RFU will really ok promotion on the basis of plans, then for once maybe we're getting something right.
