Although we didn’t win I liked what I saw from Donny last night, I thought our pack and defence on the whole was excellent. Falcons had to work hard for everything. Some good signs. Anyway, enough of the phoney war let’s get into it good and proper!!!. Bring on Ealing.

42 to 12. Ealing defended very well and good set piece.

Ealing 42 - Zebre 12. FT Ealing's replacements were much faster and better drilled than Zebre's, and ran away with the game in the last 20. Best tries belonged to Reuben Bird-Tulloch, with one lovely step from about 30m, and another nice score off a pass following a charge down by Jan Henning-Campher.

Ealing 7 - Zebre 5 at the half. Ealing have butchered a couple of chances from the 5 meter line out, but they have also done a brilliant job of sefending under the sticks, forcing two turnovers on the own goal line. The scores for both teams came from open play after a few phases. A fun match, onky marred so far by Alun Walker taking a knock. Wind picking up. Blowing crossfield.

In their latest accounts Newcastle posted an operating profit of c.£150k as well as as an overall profit of £3.6m after the increase in value of the Premiership "invested units" (formerly P shares).

And this is why I am adamant that we need a tier 1/tier2 cup. I suspect every champ club would fill out their grounds, generating much needed revenue at no cost to the RFU.

The crowd seemed very happy with what they saw - except the Exeter contingent I suppose. The atmosphere was great and it was very entertaining game. The Mennaye was bouncing!

The team played well, defensively they were driving the Falcons backwards on many an occasion - Falcons kept us honest and we had to work for the full 80. There were lessons to be taken, in the dying minutes when down to 13, for a brief period, we should have stuck the ball up our jumpers and rumbled forwards running down the clock, but an ill timed box kick gave the Falcons the possession they much needed. From this they worked the ball down field and eventually spun it out wide for Radwan (who had been kept honest all game by some excellent defence) to wriggle in at the corner and take the winning try.
The squad can take a lot from that game, and if they can take that level of intensity into next week will give Ealing a real challenge. After last week it is clear that Bodes and the coaching team did a lot of work in fixing the problems identified the last game. Players of note: John Kelly Sam Olver Alex Dolly Harry Davey Maliq Holden George Simpson Thom Smith Impact from bench: Ehize(Easy) Ehizode (a big impact player) The front row (they stood up well under the pressure we received at scrum time) These are the players that stood out for me, although everyone put in a big shift I seem to recall these players more than the others.

I think the Donny - Falcons game shows where both clubs are . . . Donny getting better and better ( other than Wasps blip!!!) on a sustainable budget and Falcons who will have the lowest budget in Premiership, and they are trying to reduce it more as reality of losing big money every season dawns!!!
It would be lovely to think that one day all clubs could enter leagues knowing there was a level playing field and the better your club the higher up the pyramid you could go without any artificial barriers. Well done to Pirates and LS on their respective wins . . . a new dawn for LS under Quins guidance?

Yes probably not the Exeter side that the full house paid to see.

Knights 29 - 33 Falcons it took two yellow cards for Falcons to grab the win at the death. Both cards were dubious as sir didn’t award similar against Falcons but hey ho.

There was a fixture against Ulster, I do not recognize names, but I assume the stronger side went to Belfast.

Full house at the Mennaye for a good win against the Chiefs, but in truth it was very much a second string Chiefs line-up.

FT Reds 17 Bath 38
Try count was 1-4 1st half and 2-2 in 2nd. Decent workout, Bath seemed to have a bit more about them than last season, but let's see what happens when they run out at Ashton Gate. 1st half penalty count pretty punishing for Reds, but they stuck at it and hopefully nothing much more serious than bumps/bruises ahead of trip to Ampthill

Final score. Saracens 59-14. I am guessing the As ran out of steam in the last ten minutes. Still, not a bad result against possibly one of the best teams in the land.
