BSE and Dorking are very similar clubs with a shared ethos and friendship and long may it continue. Interesting that your Colts met with Newport Salop this season, so you will be aware how big and strong they were for a colts side!! Also I failed to mention that our lads beat Tunbridge Juddians in their journey to the final and I may have been wrong about Bishops Stortford. Whatever our clubs future looks good. Have a good summer and see you in the new season.

Great to hear Fez!
There is a lot said about many National League Clubs only being interested in a 1st XV. I am equally as proud that my club (BSE) turn out 4 sides every week as the fact we are in N2. As for Colts. last year our Colts lost in the semi finals to eventual winners TJs and this season lost away in the Quarters to Newport Salop...it wasnt all heartbreak as for the second year running we won the E Counties Cup.

Not sure where to post this recent piece of news but on Nat2 East Prospects......
I am proud to report that Dorking U18's won the RFU U18 Colts National Cup at Sixways Worcester on 28th April 24-10 against a very strong Newport Salop side. The day after our final club game against Wimbledon the club threw their support into the Colts team and travelled en-masse to Sixways for the final. The day replicated Dorkings last win in this tournament when the team on that day consisted of George Kruis, Jason Roy, Jake Cooper-Woolley, and Ross Grimstone to name a few. The lads did the club proud with a wonderful team performance with a display of defensive prowess against a much bigger and stronger Newport team. Turning defence into attack like the switch of a light with two late trys allowed Dorking to settle the game decisively. Being the best in the country from 128 clubs that started the tournament, Dorking succeeded in beating Bishops Stortford, Rosslyn Park, and Rams to mention just a few. A wonderful season for the lads and the club and the future looks very promising at DRFC.

1 promoted from N2N, 1 relegated from N2N and 2 promoted to N2N leaves 16 without Chester |

But only 1 relegated from Nat2N. I reckon Chester will be level transferred back to North

Which would be a shame for Chester as they celebrate 100yrs next season and I would think would prefer some local Derby matches...
But who knows what the powers will decide with their scale rules and OS maps.

Bit left field but Hinckley & Loughborough could go to East with Havant to go West. Looks like Chester may stay in West as no Northern team relegated from N1. |

Addition to league? I would suggest one of Hinckley, Loughborough Students or Oxford Harlequins. But who knows how the RFU work their wonders to perform.

Do we know what teams will join N2 (E) next season ??
Colchester and Havant promoted to replace Wimbledon and NW ...
Plus one other to replace Esher ???? |

From a BSE viewpoint it has been a painful second half of the season to say the least with just 2 wins in our last 11 games. Our demise began on Jan 27th where we threw away a 24 point lead at home to TJs.
Putting aside the games at Esher and Barnes where we were well beaten, the other 7 losses as per Saturday just gone, have all come from Bury being in a winning position... Game management button seemed to have been switched off... We too have numerous departures, so time will tell as to next year, but as always N2 is a great league to be a part of and thoroughly enjoyed the trips to old and new venues...lets do it all again next year... (without the added bonus of a big gun London side from N1 dropping on us!)

What a season that was! Ours is such a good league with great rugby, and the potential for upset in almost every fixture. Wimbledon were so unlucky, we (Barnes) won with the very last kick of the game against them just before Christmas, if they had won that, and they deserved to, they would have stayed up. I also admired N Washam’s disruptive style, and will follow their progress with interest next season. Both Westcombe Pk and Sevenoaks learnt how to survive and grow in this league, and will be all the better next season as a result.
Bury surprised me, I thought they would be serious title contenders this year but fell away losing 9 games post Christmas having lost only 2 pre the festive season, that also included wins over Barnes Esher and Dorking, not sure what went so wrong there? We also managed to break our losing streak against Dorking finally winning in January in another cracking encounter. We were most pleased to have completed home and away wins against Esher, in the first and last games, and picking up the Surrey Cup too last week, in that last game, was a great way to end the season. I am sure some will say that Esher has already won the league and were not bothered by the result, but judging by the exhausted broken bodies on both teams at the end of a highly competitive game, well I would challenge that assertion! We also had a host of retirements on Saturday so next season will be one of rebuilding at Barnes you may be pleased to know |

That’s a wrap for the season, hard lines for Wimbledon, failing to stay up by the narrowest of margins! Congrats again to Esher on a well deserved league win and promotion, was well fought out at both ends of the table. Been some under achieving sides and some surprise packages this year, be good to hear folks thoughts, look forward to Sept to start again! enjoy the summer |

Worthing didnt have a great year this year, but have to say that nearly every game I watched was entertaining and full of interest. Rugby at this level remains a great watch

hard lines; the finest margins - in last 20 mins of their seasons both Billingham and Wimbledon needed one more try that would have kept them up - one scored it, the other didn't...

Your maths is ok as far as it goes GJ, with the possibility that Wombles (43pts) & Hull I (39) could end up locked together on 44 points and six wins, with a very similar points difference. But it doesn't account for the 3rd team in the mix: Billingham (12th in N2N) have 43pts and host promotion-chasing Rotherham on last day. If they get a point, they'll survive, due to having 7 wins, but that won't be easy - a tense afternoon in prospect!

Congratulations to Esher, deserved Champions and I wish them well next season.
Commiserations to Walsham, although their fate was sealed early on, they fought all season and will hopefully be a force in London 1 next year. So, will The Wombles survive? By my maths. if Ionians (who play the bottom side) get 5 points then the Dons will need to get something out of their game with Dorking...tough ask! If they stay will it be Colchester replacing Walsham and Havant for Esher or might there be sideways shuffling...viz if B Stortford somehow drop down?

Thanks Islander, glad you enjoyed the day out!
I think both sides struggled with the referee's interpretation of the high tackle law and his use of the yellow card. Both sides worked hard to play rugby but Esher had another gear in the last quarter and used the bench well. Dorking also had injury problems in their backs. The kickers were so accurate, Sam Morley was kicking from the touchline into the wind on several occasions and didn't miss until the final kick of the match. I think our experience told in the end, we had kept the same squad from last season and recruited well to fill the gaps. Having a wing like James Botterill has helped, yesterday was the first match he has played this season in which he didn't score! The gate number of 1,415 is correct, it came from our ticket office direct to me and I gave it to Kevin who gave it to TRP. A good crowd and a great evening (I'm told!). Today we had a Mini Festival with 1,000 children and 1,100 parents in attendance. I think the Bar and Catering staff deserve a week off - hang on, we have another match this Saturday! Thanks for the hospitality in National 2 East this season, some great Clubs and some good friends that we leave behind us as we head back to another set of friends.
