Good luck for Sunday, Tony. One question - why is kick-off so late?

How frustrating is that article it let's you read the first few lines then quickly descends into a heap of adverts !!! We are lucky to have the Knight brothers and their "old man" at our club and it will be great to see them on and around that famous pitch at HQ on Sunday , whilst Jacob and Reuben have plied their Rugby careers at different clubs in the past and returned back to where they belong, Joel has racked up 253 games for Hav' and could've easily played at a higher level but we've all told him he aint going nowhere, and he listened!! Apparantly the old fella was pretty good as well but I'm too young to know The whole team have done us proud this season by reaching the cup final and finishing second in the league especially with the injuries to our pack so I hope they all soak up the day and have fun and fingers crossed drink a few pints out of the cup on the bus home We have 8 coaches travelling up and loads going up by their own steam so should be quite an atmosphere in the west stand " UP THE HILL BOYS" Edited by HAVANT TONY - 28 Apr 2023 at 17:22 |

Does anyone know who is still in this competition, I am finding it hard to follow, the only thing I see reported are when games are cancelled due to clubs not travelling?

Huckleberryermouth are crowdfunding their trip to Harlow - and possibly Twickenham. Which is why the RFU needs to offer proper travel funding to all clubs. |

One of my great coaching memories as PG was away that week and left me in charge I remember being interviewed by BBc Sussex at half-time when the score was close and saying "If we score next we will win". As I said it we scored!

Was actually St Austell but also a good club, though we're happy not to have to travel there next Saturday for the semi final.
We also found it successful (though we had 2 home games), to quote our match reporter: "The 4 teams in this pool have shown Junior Rugby at this level at its best with 12 competitive games played in the best spirit and watched by large enthusiastic crowds with many new friends made along the way at teams who we would not normally meet during a season.

Do you remember the Worthing Cup Match against St Ives? The veteran Peter Hendy leading them and a young Martin Haag in the row! We won thanks to a great try from Mark O’Connor!

[QUOTE=HAVANT TONY]There ain't much positivity about this competition and rightly so, it's a shambles, and needs more thought from the RFU. We've been robbed of much needed revenue because of a pull out, when Harpenden couldn't be bothered to to play their away game at hooks lane
On the other hand this competition could be and should be the highlight of a club's season, just take our situation we've played every game we could (Harpenden aside!) including a nearly 3 hour trip to Shelford, we reached the semi final which was played yesterday at home against HeathRFC from Halifax who travelled over 5 hours the night before to get to us. It was the toughest game we have played all season, it really was a hard fought battle, Heath and their supporters are a credit to the game and there must've been around a thousand supporters at hooks lane with much needed takings very high at the bars, it was a fantastic day in the sunshine and we are now off to Twickenham next weekend for the Final versus DriffieldRFC. We are expecting several coaches of fans travelling to HQ as well as others making their own way by train and car. So the evidence of this competition being very good is certainly there 1000 supporting, how long did the HSB last? We played CS Stags yesterday one of the best back lines we have played this season, at KO think there was 20 supporter's and around 35 at full time 🙄 Tony, see you next season & good luck in the Cup. |

A thousand supporters is a decent gate. A good cup has always brought in spectators to those lucky enough to reach the latter stages at home. In the 1880s, the Yorkshire Cup had larger crowds than the FA Cup. It was only after the split, and a concerted campaign by mothers over the dangers of rugby, that the other kicking code started to gain popularity over rugby. Leagues are great in that fixtures are predictable. Indeed, the Yorkshire and Lancashire clubs had arranged leagues before the split, and it is the feature that give the Northern Union its name. But they kept the cup, as, although you might not get a big match every year, they were so valuable. But it needs publicity. and the RFU seem to have given up on any PR except for the favoured sons.

Congratulations Tony, I hope you enjoy it. I agree, this should be the highlight of the season but its been executed very poorly. Next season, They need to get the cup fixture dates out with the league fixtures, harsher penalties for those who enter then withdraw, make it clear who will play where asap and have all the Regional finals at Twickers (and not on a day of major national celebration!).
