As yet unconfirmed but apparently all 189 RDO/CRCs have been made redundant. The existing current Development Areas are been dissolved and a new structure based on the 4 RFU Divisions will be created with roughly SIX coaching support roles in each Division i.e in the North 1 Community coach per County.

Bill Sweeney more like Sweeney Todd the demon butcher of Twickenham!

Yes this is correct.

RFU oving from 6 areas to 4.

All CRCS / RDOs being made redundant.
They have created 44 new roles which staff can apply for.

Who is going to grow the game now?

Questions from clubs needs to be answered.

I believe 12 of the new roles are for gin waiters at HQ.

You need to get 100 clubs to call for a special general meeting to consider either
 - a vote of no confidence on the current board
 - the dissolution of the RFU and the return of its assets to its members.

But remember that the opponents of the Shah called for his otherthorw. They certainly acheieved to removal of one Lovely regime. I am not sure they replaced itwith anything better.

BTW has ther been an AGM this year?

Cheers Camquin but on the basis that if it carries on like this Rugby outside the elite may cease to exist a change is necessary

Yes, it was held via Zoom on the scheduled date and was better attended than the normal face-to-face AGM.

On what basis is it not fit for purpose? It is facing a massive cut in revenue and has to find ways of dealing with that, in the same way as many companies and charities. National Trust are shedding 1,200 staff, British Heart Foundation 400 and many restaurant chains and high-street shops are shutting completely. If you are involved in running a Club you will know the high volume and high quality of the support that the RFU has been providing over the last few months.

No, they won't fund Clubs to pay their players other than through PRL where, quite frankly, now-discredited Board Members signed a stupid agreement committing them to far too much expenditure in one area.

The RFU Council should step forward and announce they will forego their £1m budget

First thing to clear up its not the RFU Council making these calls its the "professional" Executive staff.

From about 2005 onwards the RFU went from an organisation run by "rugby" people to a "professionally" run business bringing in people with supposed business acumen. These "pros" put things together and presented them to the Council to "rubber-stamp" very few proposals got rejected including the enlargement of Community Rugby Department, the Plastic Pitch project and expansion of facilities at Twickenham. Lets not mention the financial agreement made with PRL by a bloke who then left the RFU and joined PRL.........

The Covid crisis has shown the complete House of Cards the game is not just the RFU.

Bill Sweeney in the last two months alone has said in various statements and interviews how important the "Community Game" is.......... then CBs had their funding pulled, the Aspirational Pathways got pulled and now all the RFU Community staff have been made redundant. I'm guessing that a "new" streamlined Community Department will emerge with some of the ex-staff getting a role within in it, My guess is a lot of the new staff will be young, enthusiastic and cheap(er) than some of their older ex-colleagues. By reducing the areas from 6 to 4, the needs for Regional Managers goes down by 33% and I wouldn't be surprised if the have 2 Regional Managers North/Mids and South West/LSE to save another 33% on overheads. Locally the new er.. Community Game Development Officers (they've used up all the good names already) will i expect be managed by the CBs locally, not sure how you manage 1 or 2 CGDOs in a county the size of Yorkshire for example!

According to Mr Sweeney it will take 5 years to build things back up? Will it? Will the RFU want to build it backup, moreover who would want to join a organisation that has made cuts of its support staff of around 30% two years ago and nearly 100% now?

MB that budget can be slashed by carrying on as now, Zoom calls, no need to pay expenses for travel!

How many HQ jobs are going any reduction of senior positions , should all HQ employees have to re apply for their jobs,  why not scrap all CB's and leagues , just play the next villages, I assume that the RFU will want the volunteers and supporters to buy tickets for international tickets? Why is it that when there is a problem they see the community game as an easy option. Soon there will be nothing left of the money going to the community game and HQ will have to go.

This is very specific, is someone in Cornwall listening in to RFU Meetings?

From the Cornwall RFU Website.

The RFU have taken the opportunity to totally overall current support with all RDOs and CRC roles now gone. These will be replaced with 2 new roles Club Development Officer and Coach Development Officer with a total of 44 in these new roles. Should the guys apply for these roles they will have a one in four chance of success.

Tell you what though it makes all the crying about no budgets for representative county rugby at U’11s and U’45s look a bit daft for sure.

Puts everything into perspective of what’s really important!
