Much closer than the score suggests.

Agreed. If anything, Bristol look the better team. Ealing has been very sloppy with ball in hand, and only have the lead thanks to penalties giving them short range ball where their physicality lets them run over Bristol's lads.

Ealing 35 - Bristol 19. Better in the second half from Ealing, more ambition and crispness.

Some thoughts on today:
  1. It was great to have some small semblance of normality for a change, the light at the end of the tunnel I hope
  2. Although every precaution was taken, going to a game is not wothout risk. More a series of mini bubbles rather than socially distanced.
  3. Apparently quite a few no shows today which is disappointing, all the green stickers seats were allocated apparently and I could see quite a lot in the east stand.
  4. On the pitch Ealing probably had their worst game of preseason, lots of knock on' s and worryingly the scrum misfiring against a young Bristol 3rds team
  5. BUT it's just preseason so can't read too much into things
  6. Bristol A exceeded my expectations, their attack was outstanding at times. They could easily have had 3 tries in the first half but had to settle for pens instead.
  7. There was a time when I thought the Championship would wipe the floor with the A League teams, I'm not so sure now. Perhaps a combined competition could work?
Just some general musings, was great to finally watch live rugby again. I hope other clubs get to have the pleasure again soon.

So true. The parachute payment is ring fencing by stealth, making it almost impossible to break the Premiership cartel. The abolition of the play-offs made it even more difficult.

...and Codder's departure confirmed on Ealing twitter. Strangely, they said that it was for financial reasons. I guess maybe the money has ran out, but seems very unlikely given recruitment, building plans, and rumour that they can buy a share in PRL.
