Players can and do choose to change clubs mid season. Clubs need short term cover.

Yes it has, the issue you have the league is a Lancashire and Cheshire league. Cheshire clubs voted in favor of allowing 2xv to play in the league system. Only 2 Lancashire clubs game forward to vote in favor of allowing 2xv to play in the leagues. It requires 4 teams to have a vote. The issue is that messages doesn't get to the right people within the club to allow them to make a decision.

Some of the smaller clubs thought they would lose their best players to the big clubs if those clubs could enter a second team into the league. The theory would be players would move to play in the second tam, with the hope of getting into the big club's 1st XV. Though if you are playing two leagues down from the 1st XV, you are not going to waltz into it. I have no idea if there was any such movement in the counties that did permit 2nd XVs into the leagues. However, since then the powers that be have decided that all players at a club whose first team are in the Championship count as players at a Championship club, so cannot play for the county. Even if they are in the 6thXV. That has caused several Cambridge 3rd XV players to leave - as it ruled them out of county games. |

Also at present 2nd XV's are not allowed to rise above Level7 which probably wouldn't be a high enough standard for clubs such as Caldy and other senior clubs with very strong 2nd XV's.
That rule is supposedly up for review during the close season so it will be interesting to see what happens

Big Eddie, L33. Thank you for your clarification. From an outsider's perspective that looks like a case of Lancs clubs wanting to keep a strong 2nd XV from entering their joint Cheshire/Lancs league for fear of coming up against a side that may very well beat their 1st XV.
To win 125 matches in a row is quite some feat. As a Championship club could Caldy take their 2nd XV to play their corresponding opposition 2nd teams as a precursor to the 1st XV matches each week? This works well at a number of clubs across Nat 1. I'm unsure if the full time sides in the Champ have 2nd XVs (do they have academies?), but I do know that Chinnor, Cambridge and Ampthill do. It may well be more worthwhile for the up and coming Caldy players to play against stronger sides and may even add another dimension to the Championship. I also know I've gone off topic on this thread, apologies!

It shouldn't be too hard to arrange for Caldy 2nds to travel with the firsts to play Chinnor Falcons ( and vice versa ). Chinnor should be able to arrange their Raging Bull Fixtures to have two clear dates to play Caldy, if there is a will !

...there is a way! There you go, easily done and x2 more competetive fixtures for both clubs for next season, who has to contact who to make it happen? They act as good curtain raisers and it get supporters into the ground early for 12.30pm KO before the 1 XV at 3pm - more bar sales all round too. It is win win.
