Well I'm glad it worked for someone, Leicester Lions are also getting better gates with a few local games again, but we are still travelling to Cornwall to play Redruth, Devon to play Barnstaple (here's where my geography could get sketchy) and the Bristol area (sidestepped the County naming there phew), so apart from missing the weekend away with a bucket and spade to Guernsey, we are still poluting the planet with fumes from the coach doing huge miles(ditto for Loogerberooga and Hinckley). Not that the club minds as they hope to be doing more travelling if they can just win the league this year.

Yes, the same people who think West Bridgford is in the North of England (and who thought Chester wasn't), also have three East Midland teams as being in the West.
I understand that there is an attempt to even up the standard of the three level 4 leagues - which this may be part of - and when the 3 clubs are relegated from Nat 1 at the end of the season, there will be more juggling about, if 2 or 3 of those are from the same geographical area, because the alternative, of relegating 3 or 4 from that area at the level below, is not acceptable either. In effect, what has happened is that the 4 traditional Divisions (North, Midlands, London & SE, South West) have become three, and the one that has disappeared is the Midlands.

You will never please every club. England is a weird shape and clubs aren't geographically balanced out. There will always be winners and losers in a pyramid league system which covers the entire country.
The more successful a club is the more travelling it would have to do. The flattening out of the pyramid is/was an attempt to reduce travelling for the lower league teams. There will clubs that don't fit into a convenential idea of geography but have to be there to balance out the leagues - and therefore back to my opening line... It was a good question earlier in the thread about why the leagues have to be balanced out. I suppose it is fair that each team in the same level plays the same number of fixtures but outside of that I don't have other good reasons.

So the ideal would be……..
Each street to have a rugby club Travel no further than five minutes to a game Only play clubs you want to and get on with All players to be exceptional athletes with world class skills Players to pay for the privilege of playing rugby and be grateful to do so Players to only ever play for one club Oh and beer prices to be capped at one shilling a pint for ever |

That'll do for a start, you missed the RFU sharing out squillions of dosh to the National league teams though.

No sorry tigerburnie that shouldn't be on the list as in the ideal world the RFU wouldn't exist!

Thanks Hopping Mad, I was working purely from memory. The actual proposal which you have described more completely makes even more sense today that it did at the time.
