Macca and Fordy always make good meters - as does Shay Owen, who was absent yesterday. Unfortunately they just couldn't ship the ball out to release the backs as they did so often last season.
Our new 15 looked a real handful yesterday on the few occasions he had the ball, I'm looking forward to seeing what damage he can cause when we're able to play a more expansive game. You're right, we'll both be in the mix at the end of the season. |

Neither team kicked any ball out of hand yesterday which I was surprised at. I didn't think Chester had the outright pace to cause Caldy any real problems apart from Dicko who was busy at full back.
Van Sertima and Guy Ford were the most prominent Chester ball carriers and I thought Caldy dealt with them pretty well. The absence of a Chester goal kicker was crucial at the end leaving Caldy mistakes unpunished. Caldy will get better and so will Chester, I expect both sides to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season

Jimmy Lloyd might be one of the new guys that's injured, there were a few of them just before the season started. He's not listed on our website, but that probably means nobody has gotten around to doing it yet - there are still players listed that have left the club.
On another note I notice that we've resigned Jimmy Preston after spending a season at Sandbach, played for our seconds for the first two games of the season. Brilliant player. I wonder what his boot's like? 🤔 |

What's happened to Jimmy Lloyd? Is he injured? Thought he would add some beef to your pack.

I know, but I believe that one of the reasons for moving there is because that's where he's going to study. Massive loss for us. |

Pretty fair assessment, BE. I agree that the officials didn't help with the flow of the game, but overall I think the mistakes they made worked themselves out by the final whistle.
Caldy looked good yesterday, but our defence frustrated them for large parts of the game. We are definitely going to struggle with the loss of James Robins to Yorkshire Carnegie; he took control of our kicking last season, taking the pressure off our regular fly half, Bennett. I rate Bennett in this position, but his kicking game is too inconsistent. In the absence of a good kicker we are going to struggle to push for those top places, this was evident yesterday when on more than one occasion kickable penalties were not taken. That can be be the difference in tight games. |

Caldy v Chester was a bit turgid with defences well on top. The Caldy pack were completely dominant at scrum time in the first 20 minutes pushing the Chester pack back at a rate of knots.
Royle is as razor sharp as ever and always looked the most likely to score. However fair play to Chester who were resilient and resolute and whilst never looking like winners pushed Caldy hard. Caldy will be pleased with the win but frustrated not to have created more. Perhaps it was just me but I thought the officiating was as turgid as the game, never letting the game flow, missing obvious fouls (by both sides) and penalising petty infringements. However others thought the man in the middle was decent so perhaps I was too picky. Next up Sheffield Tigers at Dore Moor...............need to pack the thermals. it is already winter up there. Great game at the Ferens Ground this afternoon where rugby was definitely the winner. Tyne took a 10-0 lead after 15 mins before Hull levelled it and then Tyne scores a try which Hull squared to lead 17-15 at the break. It then went to 22-22 before Hull led 31-22 and then 36-22 before Tyne scored a converted try with 7 mins to go. Nip and tuck before the end but Hull held out for their first N2N win of the season.
