Understand the Leicester Lions game Vs Stourbridge has been called off as Stour cannot raise a team! What is going on at Stourton Park? Do we another club in free fall?

They are citing injuries - specifically the lack of five front row players.
The news item says they usually call on the local Premiership academies to loan them players - but that route is not open for the obvious reason.

Worse news, their colts and the ladies have also had to call games off for the same reason, too many injuries.

G A M E   O F F

It is with regret that Stourbridge 1st XV have had to withdraw from this weeks league fixture with Leicester Lions Rugby Club due to a spate of injuries specifically to the front row.

Under RFU regulations we have to field 5 players able to fulfil the front row in the match day 20. Our loan arrangements with Wasps & Worcester have been lost due the administrations with the respective clubs and although we now have a healthy loan arrangement with Moseley they too have similar injury issues.

We also have established a link with another Premiership Academy but this relationship is unlikely to bear fruits until the New Year. The medical staff and coaches will be working hard to ensure that we can find the requisite playing resources so that we can fulfil our remaining fixtures until the end of 2022 when hopefully our depleted list of injured players shows some positive signs of recovery.

Director of Rugby

Unfortunately, due to injuries, our Panthers and our Colts have also had to call their games off against Old Leamingtonians RFC and Luctonians respectively. Both hope to reschedule to a later date.

This begs the question "How is it sustainable to run a stand-alone semi professional rugby club with no 2nd XV - please don't quote me Stour Lions - that is dependant on loan players being avalable every week?"
How about doing what most of the rest of us have to do - grow our own or sign players on a permanent basis?

Shame for West Mids rugby, not another club in trouble following Wasps and Worces. Stour always strong.
Fingers crossed.

It will - 5 point deduction will take them to the bottom of the table. Huddersfield and Harrogate plus 1 or 2clubs in the South suffered a similar fate when unable to find enough front row

They may also get to play the reverse fixture at Leicester.

Clubs will not survive if they rely on running a 1st team alone.
Having strong 2nd, 3rd and colts gives a structure to keep a succession of players coming through.
We are very lucky at Lucs that we could field a second 1st 15 if needed, but that is only possible because of the effort put in to developing and maintaining multiple teams, colts and junior squads.
I hope for midlands rugby that this is only a short term glitch for Stourbridge

For clarity, I do not speak for the club, just a long term supporter who wants the best for lower leagues community orientated rugby

Agree with everything you say there Lucky but that's obviously not how the Stour DoR sees it. Pretty obvious their intention is to borrow (buy?) their way out of it in the New Year

Regulation 6
50. In ‘Home and Away’ leagues when the first fixture is defaulted by the ‘away’ team the return
fixture will be reversed and take place at the ground of the non-offending Club.

It is sad when a proud club, like one of those in my town, has seven Prem Academy players today.

We share a Colts team with the highest ranked regional club in the town. I don’t think the other clubs have a colts team.

Some of our Colts players are through a pathway between us and the Premiership Academy able to progress that way if they have the ‘talent’.

But speaking to a grass roots committee member of a club in the town who play merit rugby, with one side, post CoVid they saw a lot of players go (and some football clubs saw the same), but thanks to efforts of player/coaches they are forging links with a local post graduate university and some students from across the globe are learning the game as well as studying for MBAs.

A lot of youngsters still play at university, but are clubs in their new towns forging enough links  with academia?
The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.
