Back off me Holidays so here is my punt: I said weeks ago no easy games in LS1 1/2 mistakes and you will get punished.

Brighton v Havant -Hav are & were bad starters for a few seasons not sure why they seem to have gone backwards. 6 away games to start may well see them not figure this season
Camberley v Dartfordians - Battle of the newbies Darts impressed me on the opening day but Camberley have started well
Cobham v Hove - Cobham  too much in the tank
Medway v Chichester -  Bite in the tail for Medway not sure how Chi lost last week
Sevenoaks v Chobham - Sevenoaks is a tough place to go to very solid at home
Tottonians v Thurrock - Totts cannot not back my Sons team but to be a close game
Westcombe Park v London Cornish Cornish for me always do well against tough opposition if they have a big pack out.

I'd be truly delighted to see WP go down to Cornish - but that is some crystal ball you're looking in Gareth!

Oasthouse

guess we will find out at 4:45. I've said it before the games this season are going to be very close most of the time. 1 or 2 mistakes will make a difference. Cornish like being the underdogs and will upset the apple cart it's what they do & they do it well. Dickon will always play them down it is his job to do that.

I'm not saying they are world beaters just that when they put it together they are a match for anyone. I have probably watched them 15/20 times in the last 10 years and only once were they poor.

I waited for the sun to get up so I could put on my glasses....
Here are my predictions for the week:
Brighton v Havant  Havant to win this one it will be tough for them with all the away fixtures but this one will come good..I think!
Camberley v Dartfordians Battle of the newbies, my money is on Camberley.
Cobham v Hove Home win for Cobham
Medway v Chichester Medway have made their case in the 1st two fixtures, I think this will continue, home win.
Sevenoaks v Chobham Chobham suprised me the other week but I thin the Mighty Oaks will shade this one.
Tottonians v Thurrock Home game and if they can start better there is only one winner, Totts for this.
Westcomber Park v London Cornish Rob knows he needs to win this league so there will be no slip ups today, home win for WP.

Hope everyone has an entertaining afternoon and may the best team win..

Best, Vuarnet

WP one of the anticipated front runners - front runners lose some games early, makes the league all the more interesting for the duration.

Hi Gareth

On the Chi result it was a close game with some fortuitous charge downs early on. Medway were missing their first choice 10 but the replacement only missed one. Once they were 10 down they kept the scoreboard ticking did not flap and managed the game well at the breakdown forcing penalties which they then kicked.Their forwards play was good with great hands and very strong in the early scrummaging. Discipline cost Chi with much of the game played with 14 but certainly one card was debateable. Outscored Medway on trys but the best team won. Medway are still building with more players coming in so whilst they are coy on their aspirations they will certainly be top 3 this season.

Looks like the standards and quality of this league continues to grow.

Best, Vuarnet

Certainly a bruising encounter yesterday between Medway & Chi.

Given how long it took Medway to get into their stride I think they will be chuffed with the win.

Not sure though which of the two cards you wouldn’t have given - one was for a deliberate knock on when Medway has an overlap and one was for a trip from a tapped penalty. The trip could well have been a red.

Well you can only beat whats put in front of you, and in that respect WP fully deserved the 5 points. As for how WP measure up against the best teams in the league, only time will tell - key period is late Oct/Nov for Park. For our part, if a team was ever going to put 50 points on us this season, it was on Saturday - a series of weddings meant we had to field a squad with no forward replacements, and to lose our hooker inside the opening 5 mins because the ref decided he had to go off (with no recourse to our qualified physio) was not ideal, pitching our 2nd Skipper (who is a centre) into the back row and a part time prop into the fr - he did a decent job actually. We knew this would be a nadir for availability for Cornish during the season and felt if we took anything from our opening 3 games it would be a bonus - we will shape up very differently from what has been seen so far from this point on. Great set up at WP, and decent post match meal too - couldnt hang around as had my 2 yo with me and he was exhausted.

Vuarnet thanks for the information i thought Chi would run them close.

Sign of a good team to scrap and battle when not playing particulary well Medway that is.

Having uncomfortably watched your hooker lying out cold for a good five seconds, the refs decision to overrule your physio was completed correct. Hope he makes a speedy recovery.

WW - he didnt overrule our physio, he didn't even confer with her and ruled the player out for the rest of the game. Later in the game a similar thing happened to your wing, and he was allowed to continue before taking another hit and then coming off. I am always looking for consistency, and it wasnt applied yesterday in this case. I checked with the assessor, and he agreed a referee should consult with a qualified professional rather than make an arbritary call - it had no bearing on the score or the result, but I have also not seen it happen before.

To support Dickon, a ref should establish before the game the level of medical qualification. You establish if they are a doctor, nurse, medically trained, qualified physio or a first aider - player safety is paramount to us. But a referee can overrule the medics decision if they feel the player is at risk.

I didn’t see the game and so can’t give a fair view on this particular incident, but as a ref I’d always talk to the medical/ physio to establish the situation.
Rucks and mauls may bust my balls, but whips and chains excite me!!
