Did you see one of the proposals suggested last week (it might have been for a proposed Prem/ Champ Cup) was for captains to nominate an opposition player to spend 10 minutes in the bin? If an officially-sanctioned body can come up with that then I think I'd rather watch the Hundred! [Edit] Here you go: Telegraph Sport understands that the group’s reforms, presented by RFU director of performance rugby Conor O'Shea, include:
The RFU has assembled a working party to discuss giving the competition greater appeal. Jamie George, the Saracens and England hooker, Mark McCall, George’s director of rugby, Sir Ian McGeechan, the Scotland and Lions legend, and Lee Blackett, the former Wasps coach, are all among those included in the group assembled to embellish any future cup competition, which will incorporate both Premiership and Championship clubs. It wasn't that long ago that Itoje was quoted as saying the premiership needed to take lessons from American Football and make games more of a spectacle. Marler also said something about the need to expand rugby to new audiences. Now Jamie George included on working party to give the game greater appeal.
I'm a terrible cynic but I wouldn't mind betting that this is part of a CVC/prem rugby PR strategy to start slowly building support towards glitz, glamour and destruction of the game as we know it.

The statement by Maisie-Taylor just shows the staggering arrogance that has become the hall mark of the PRL and the RFU. Unbelievable.

Sir Ian McGeechan, he's full of good ideas, not. Last one he had was to create a Yorkshire rugby club based at his sides ground and expected other Yorkshire clubs fans to ditch old alliances to support them.

Absolutely right. The Premiership has been a totally Lovely competition since Saracens were allowed to get away with cheating for years and years despite warnings and everyone knowing what was going on. Now it seems the RFU want to Lovely the Championship as well. Rugby as a sport will soon end when you get as high as Nat One.

Might this have something to do having to buy P shares back at something close to the valuation on the balance sheets of premiership clubs … probably. This situation might even open up more of the ‘rights’ being bought by outside investors at a bargain price. VCs will want a return and an exit strategy usually while they build up debt in their victims… sorry ‘partners’. They do not put their time and money in for free! |

What a blessing it would be if we could open and shut our ears as easily as we open and shut our eyes!
