If you've got to make a big deal on here of resignings, then you've either got far too much time on your hands or there's something a little dodgy about your club which makes the fact that some of your better players actually want to stay for another season a surprising event. You can tell an awful lot about a club by the turnover of players every year.

Keeps fans in the loop on comings and goings. I think it's a good thing clubs are engaging with their fans like this.

Leicester Lions announce more re-signings, good to see the core of last years team staying with the club, Nick Cairns, Johnny Murdoch and Ed Sumpter the latest. No doubt some of the N2S family will be interested as to the potential strength of their opposition.

Taking onboard what Paul so politely said earlier, this comment sort of puts the Lions ethos into words, part of a post on the Lions website announcing a raft of senior players re-signing for next season.
Commenting on the re-signing of Drew Rudkin, Collins said ''Quite simply Drew is Leicester Lions. He is what the club is all about. He started in the junior section when he was 16 and is now entering his 14th season in the senior squad. Over the years he has consistently been a top performer and that was still the case last season, despite playing most of his rugby at hooker to cover the injured Ollie Taylor. Whether on the back row or in front row, what Drew gives you is 100% effort all the time, and there is no substitute for that. He gives us so much, from the way he trains to the integration of the development players, and therefore he is integral to the senior players group.'' Drew commented ''Having been at the club for such a long time now it was great to see a 'buzz' back in the club last season. Gaz has definitely brought a culture back to the club that has helped us kick on. Personally I was happy with my transition to hooker and I'm looking forward to that continued challenge this season.'' |

Yup, the names we give to foreign sports teams would often surprise local supporters of those teams. Toulouse are really Stade Toulousain as well. Inter Milan are really Internazionale, while AC Milan are simply Milan (the city is Milano in Italian but it's due to the club's foundation by British expats). I think we can excuse translation of city names otherwise.

Leicester Lions news Head coach Gareth Collins has promoted three development squad players from last season to the senior squad. Commenting on the decision he said ''When we set up the development group last year it was for this very reason - to give young, local players the opportunity to train and play with the senior squad, with the view of earning a contract. I'm delighted for Will, Findlay and Henry. They were all outstanding last year, demonstrating all the qualities I'm after from a development player. They all performed well for the 'A team' and showed real progress over the season. I'm looking forward to seeing how much they can push for starting spots this season and I'm also looking forward to seeing if our new group of development players can follow in their footsteps.'' Commenting on Will Helliwell, Collins said: 'Will is a really talented footballer who has a great understanding of the game and can play across the backline which is a huge asset. He made his debut at the end of last season against one of the best sides in the league, Redruth, and didn't look at all out of place.'' Will commented ''I can't wait for the new season to begin and get the ball rolling again. I'm really excited to challenge myself in the senior squad and compete for a first team place.'' Commenting on Findlay Tweedie, Collins said: 'Findlay is a really exciting prospect. He's an electric scrum half who punches well above his weight. I was really impressed with his progression last season and by the end of the year he was knocking at the first team door.'' Findlay commented ''I'm really excited to be back for my second season at Lions, and being given the opportunity in the senior squad. It'll definitely be a good test for me but I'm looking forward to pushing for a first team spot. '' Commenting on Henry Martin, Collins said: ''Henry joined our development group midway through last season and was a standout performer in a number of 'A team' games. He's quick and strong and I'm looking forward to seeing him progress further this year in the first team squad.'' Henry commented ''I'm absolutely delighted to have earned a place in the senior squad and be playing for Lions for another season. I'm looking forward to the season starting - whenever that might be!'' |
