Yes Darth we had to work very hard for our 4 points yesterday. As you like your stats have a look at the difference for Guernsey home and away (points). We are only the third team to win on the island and one draw I think from memory so it’s not an easy place to go. Weather was pretty poor first a wind blowing into the bottom corner then the rain which made conditions pretty poor. It didn’t help either that the ref decided to make subs for us twice as he was better medically qualified than our doctor. That said lovely ground, great weekend away and a W

looking at recent results......both Esher and Taunton are battling well.....perhaps even well enough to drag Chinnor into it ?

I think Taunton may have the easier fixtures in the run in....so we could yet see Esher back with us , which would much simplify matters, though future level transfers are I think, something quite troubling.

Maybe Leghorn will be right and we will be back to the Recreation Ground next year Wink

Yes Rabbie....you are correct in that I am of a decidedly statistical bent.....and the islanders have historically had a much better home record than away.  I DO wonder just how much that is due....for away sides, including Guernsey themselves, to the travel.  I also wonder if results differ for teams that arrive on the day rather than travel the night before ?

There were a few, including me, that wondered if Guernsey might take a big step forward this season.....a la Jersey.  Not the case though.  Maybe next year.....I suspect they have a few bob ?

About this time of year, I like to look at our league and think who might be considered both the over-achievers and under-achievers of the season ?

In the former case.....it is Dorking for me, though Barnes have beaten their previous yo-yo record quite decisively.  This is the second time the Dorks have been promoted and got reasonably close to going straight through the league.

I think that the City Side would be my under-achievers......though there are likely a number of sides that had title aspirations and have fallen short.

In the battle for second, two teams have 7 games left, the rest 8 …having looked at each sides remaining games, each team has probably 3/4 fairly nailed on wins, each also have 3/4 games that are a toss of a coin as to whether they win or their oppo win, both exciting and scary at the same time.

Barnes last 4 games of the season are Bury away, Blackheath at home, OA’s and Worthing away YIKES 😳 … as I said, exciting but scary!

Darth

Level 4 As I understand it.

When the 42 teams are known for next season the powers to be will sit down and allocate 14 to N, 14 to W and 14 to E.

The days of level transfers and appeals are gone.

In reality it means the teams on the fringes of the perceived regions could easily change from 1 of the divisions to another every year.

Thanks for that Steve......and now you jog my memory.....I think I do recall reading that a while back.

But what a peculiar situation eh ?

Perhaps just a question of semantics....but to my mind.....this is still a level transfer in a different guise. All that has really gone is the right of appeal.....and I can see why.

I suppose that looking ahead, the powers that be have foreseen.....just perhaps, that a transfer from North to East might be too damaging for the club they select.  And so....they might find some middle ground by transferring a northern team West....and then a Western team East ?

Either way, I do not envy them this task.  There is a strong chance that they will need to enforce this regulation in the near term.  Further, I imagine that whoever has to be moved is going to be very unhappy.   Hence removing the right of appeal ?

Do you know....will they get additional funding to cover extra travel ?  Also, what criteria will be used to decide who moves where ?  Perhaps the likes of Chester are getting nervous ?

As you point out, this is only I think, an issue for clubs that are located on the periphery of their regions.  The likes of Raiders, Redruth and the Yorkshire based clubs can sleep soundly I imagine Wink.

Darth, I'm not sure how easy Raiders can sleep, isn't there only one club further west in N2E

Hmmmm.......fair point Saturnate......I was just thinking of all those London clubs between us and the North Big smile   Maybe Henley and Guernsey ?

While it might be a bad thing for our club financially.....a lot of fans would not mind us going West.  We have a large hard core of travelling fans who quite enjoy the trips to Bristol and even the Recreation Ground.....now that we have recorded a win or two there......took a while Ouch

I think Guernsey are considered to be Gatwick for these purposes.

Although you would have thought as long as there is a regional airport with reasonable links to the island, they might be an ideal candidate to move between the three regions.

Hello Golden Jackal
Yes What a game it was and a spectacle of flowing fast rugby. End to end stuff and in truth it should have been a draw at 44-44. Tragic that the game should be won with the final kick of the game as it was to the Wolfpack at the big field earlier in the season. Dorking should not have lost this game and nor the one at Rugby Park the previous week. We have achieved dominence in games and then for some reason we take our eye of the game and slip into complacency mode. In this league there is no room for complacency. Our two 2 trips to the naughty step allowed BSE to claw back the deficit and slip into a narrow lead on 2 occasions. The extra man BSE had throughout (Your Tannoy commentator with vocal support from a big crowd) was the motivator BSE needed in what seemed like your cup final. I also thought Sir reprimanding BSE for 2 CONSECUTIVE dissent and backchats should have been a YC, but he did not do so other than the 20M march back.

So Dorking grabbed defeat from the clutches of victory but were real value for their 2 LBP. I am sure they will have learnt a lot from their last 2 games, to put things right. BTW. No complaints from any of us we loved the game, your supporters and Bury in general, mean we will be back next year.

Hi Fez...a fair reflection and comments about the game.., although the player was Yellow Carded for the back chat and will now miss the trip to 7OAKS as a result of a culmination of yellows.
Our man on the tannoy does sometimes get excitable but I wouldnt go so far as to say it was our cup final....it is normally noisy at our place but coming back from 19 - 0 and 24 - 5 down probably upped the volume and by then they were joined by the lads having finished playing on the other games (as you had at yours) so it was a little vociferous...
I think a draw was a fair result and still not sure that it was offside at the end, but Sir is always rightEmbarrassed

Our next three games are against the top three: Blackheath (a),Worthing (h) & Dorking (a).
Blackheath were worthy winners at Dry Leas 6-15, so this Saturday is going to be very interesting, we have nothing to loose, so fingers crossed!! I am making the long trip up from Cornwall and i have managed to get on the  president’s table for lunch as well!!

Ooh.....the presidents table eh Nick ?  You are going up in the world Clap  Don't forget your Alickadoo jacket Wink

And good luck in the two away games.  Am hoping to get up to Dry Leas for the home game.

The Hawks pack have been in good nick of late.....Lunnon and Vooght in particular.  You might have the game to cause Club some problems if you can get your mauling game going ?

Yes they are deemed to be based in Gatwick, however there is absolutely no reason they shouldn't be a team to move between the divisions as required.

If there were useful flights to other airports.
At the moment, Gatwick seems to be the only sensible route.

Birmingham and Manchester seem to be year round routes but perhaps not to fit on with Saturday games

Spot on Jackal. We had a great weekend. Incredible to think after all that physicality, skill, testosterone, and determination over 160 minutes home and away, there was only 4 points between our two sides and seconds between defeat and victory. A great advertisement. We look forward to next year. Good luck to Wolfpack on the run in.

Yes two really good close fought games that on another day could have gone to the opposition.
The Dorking match report has been widely circulated and well received back here in Suffolk...
Good Luck for the run in....

funny old game at Worthing today where Worthing won 59 -12. A bit unfair on Guernsey who put in a good shift, but cutting edge in the backs was main difference. Some great tries scored today.

As for the table, Blackheath continue their relentless push for promotion, 2nd place remains wide open, and interesting battle for relegation continues. It is 3 that go down, isnt it?
