All other RFU competitions allow emergency replacement of front row forwards, why not this one?

Exactly, better that than a cancelled game.

. There’s a good chance that solicitors have played "community rugby" Out of approximately 110 playing members my level 5 Club has 4 working Solicitors and one about to retire. They out number dentists (1), doctors (3) and vets (1) I have no idea what solicitor participation numbers are at other clubs. |

I was joking about the RFU solicitors' apparent knowledge of community rugby

We as a club (& me personally) were very skeptical about this competition at the outset but we entered so we could at least get one of two fixtures in April. However having now completed 3 really good close pool matches against new, strong opposition and squeezed throuigh a fantastic semi-final, next Sunday our young team are now fortunate to be going to have a once in a lifetime final at Twickenham.
On the way we've traveled afar to new territory, made new friends and had a full clubhouse a couple of times. It's costing and our treasurer is a bit grumpy, but one can't enter a national competition without expecting to have to move about the country a bit but overall it has been a success. I recognise we are in a minority but with a few tweaks this kind of competition it could work

Whatever else has been said and done in the Papa John Community Cup, the final between Havant and Driffield was a cracking game, a credit to both clubs and well presented on Youtube. Well done Driff. on lifting the trophy and turning Ben Johnson into a back row forward.

Well said and well done to all involved at Driffield. This was such a momentous occasion, even BBC's Look North news programme reported on the triumph. I believe that the last time Look North mentioned Rugby Union was 23 years ago when Hull Ionians lost the old NPI cup final at Twickenham. Sad, even shameful, but true.

I did think it rather odd that the BBC did a preview on their website for Havant but not Driffield. But good to see they compensated by covering Driffield's win.

Thanks for this Camquin I've just tried to look on the RFU site to see who has made each of the finals and where they are being played. Absolutely useless for that - spread across about about 15 different pages and no venue shown. I don't suppose you have that information in summary form without having to go to any effort to get it?

Not to hand, it was in the early information. I think some are at Ealing.

Yes Ealing, Stone-X, Worcester, DMP and maybe others, but it is not being able to easily see who has got to all the finals and where each is that is annoying.

Yes very frustrating on the RFU site for anyone interested in amateur rugby from all over the country. Have to click on a ridiculous amount of different pages. These are the games being played at DMP. Papa Johns Finals Day at Darlington Mowden Park Sunday 7th May 11am - Papa Johns Men’s Counties 3/4 North Shield Final Rolls Royce v Bury 1pm - Papa Johns Men’s Counties 2 North Shield Final Bramley Phoenix v Belper 3pm - Papa Johns Men’s Counties 1 North Shield Final Newcastle (Staffs) v Huddersfield Laund Hill 5pm - Papa Johns Men’s Regional 2 North Shield Final Newbold-on-Avon v Winnington Park

I have to say, while the tournament may have some organisational issues, the coverage of the finals has been excellent. Good quality streams with commentaries, replays, interviews and features.
The RFU rightly take a lot of flack so I'm going to give them some deserved praise for this

I was at HQ yesterday for the Horsham v ON's final, an absolutely brilliant game of rugby and a fabulous advertisement for rugby at their level.
However, the stadium organisation was atrocious, hardly any outlets open, it took 45 minutes to get a beer before the game, no chance at half time because of the queues and everywhere was shut at the final whistle. Never been to HQ before and only managed 2 pints ...

The RFU will probably move next year's finals elsewhere, citing lack of takings. |

Assuming the concept of a cup is retained, it is obvious it needs some attention.
Or will our Lords and Masters at HQ just do the same again?
|
||||
The older I get, the more the RFU leave me confused.

Why need to mess around with it? They know how to run a good community finals day with the old Intermediate Cup/Senior/Junior Vases. Stadium management dropped the ball here it sounds like, as many of these "big" stadiums usually do when they host matches not involving the "main" teams.

Well, from the RFU statement it looks like some changes are gonna be made for next seasons PapaJohn's cup but no major changes until the 24/25 season 🙄🙄
