Exactly. Start at the bottom, or reinvest in the amateur arm clubs they have in the system already. London Irish Amateur, Wasps FC and Worcester RFC (not including Jersey RFC as they said they'd never go pro again) are available, if only the former fans of the sadly liquidated pro clubs at large actually knew that.

It is an interesting comment from a supporter of Cornish Pirates, that should they win the league they will be able to recruit a full squad without the support of Exeter and have a ground that would meet the Prem initial criteria and have plans to increase the ground to 10k within 4 years.
I believe that Dicky Evans funding runs out in December and they have yet to replace him. There is still no agreement on future funding for the Championship or the Parachute payment that a relegated club from the prem will receive or the funding that a promoted Championship would get to achieve parity with current Prem clubs. This is the real issues that need to be resolved.

A mention on the latest developments at the end of last week in The Ruck, which is the Times weekly podcast...
If you don't want to listen to the whole thing, the Champ section is roughly 20-28 minutes. |

I read it as a reference to your post. Did you mean Cornish achieved 2nd place without help from Exeter? Your comment reads that way.

Where have I said that we did not use D/Rs last season? Where did I say our ground meets the Prem criteria? It doesn’t. Where did I say anything about expanding ground capacity to 10k ? I don’t think that is physically possible.

It would not be possible to expand The Mennaye to 10,000. Possibly 5,000 might be achievable. If promoted we would eventually have to move and we all know how difficult that would be!

I know Prates are no longer involved, and it is the wrong game. But will Truro ever be able to come back to Cornwall? If so, how big a stadium will they build?

Camquin if you are talking about football then it seems a stadium is almost complete and Truro City FC hope to be playing their next season. |

A stadium, suitable for the current level of the club, but not a solution for Pirates - even with the reduced requirements - as the planning is only for 4,000 capacity - and it only has 300 seats.

Yes but it was built for the separate sport that you mentioned.

So which teams meet / can meet the 5,000 attendance number at their current location?
Coventry, Doncaster and Bedford definitely. Ealing - I thought I had heard mention had a plan but I am not 100% Ampthill, Cambridge, Scottish and Nottingham - No I haven't been to either Caldy or Hartpury, but guess they are both a No as well? Same goes for Chinnor? Immediate assistance (if that's the right word!) then for 4 teams maximum. My guess is also with the "2 years at 5,000 before needing 7,500 in Year 3" is that you really only need a "plan on paper" to illustrate a concept to the auditors to pass the first hurdle. It is likely (certain?) with the financial differences that whoever goes up first is going to "bounce" between the leagues for a bit - as Worcester did historically and most teams do in Football as well. All of which means I can't see anyone really needing to achieve more than 5,000 capacity for a long time. And if a team does manage to survive and prosper in the Premiership it would be really interesting to hear the case that is presented to throw them out on capacity grounds if they have achieved a couple of years of mid table on the playing field. |

I can see Cambridge getting to 5,000 just but probably no further. We might be able to ground share with Cambridge University or Cambridge United but parking is difficult for both. Seriously, as there are only 11/13 home games, why invest £m for 14/17 hours of rugby a year? As to penalty relegation, the French manage to move clubs down a level for breach of regulations.

A good stadium isn't only for rugby.
It becomes an event space with loads of uses. Rugby isn't the only income of a good club set up.

Completely agree. A good stadium is the gift that keeps on giving all year.
For example, just in the last few weeks you have had Take That performing at Stadium MK and Taylor Swift at Murrayfield - both packed out and generating huge amounts of capital, of which MK Dons and Scottish Rugby respectively would have benfitted from a great deal. Two different stadiums built for two different sports, but both supporting their clubs/owners during the off season, it's win win.
I do feel that rugby clubs/grounds could benefit from some diversification, especially at this juncture in the Championship/professional rugby landcape. Fortune favours the brave. |

This is a great point. Ealing already has a capacity of 5000, with new stands going in. However, it's already using that 5000 capacity to generate non-rugby revenue. A good example being the Turf Games last weekend, with over 4000 athletes and a commensurate number of spectators over two days. Other events include renting the field out to the NFL for flag American Football, and movie shoots.

A stadium may be a goose that lays golden eggs, but the cost of upkeep is not chickenfeed. And you have to pay off any loan taken out to build it. |

The concerts benefit the local area too- when Take That played at the City Ground recently, Nottingham held a fan zone and offered parking, bar facilities and food vans etc, all of which benefits the club and the food vendors etc. Speaking of Nottingham and what would happen in the event of the porcine species taking flight and us being at the right end of the table for once, my money would be on us moving back to Meadow Lane.
