Bedford 5 - 2 Cornish Pirates - This is always a great fixture but Bedford at home are usually on the money
Caldy 4 - 1 Ampthill - After losing to Chinnor, this is a game that Caldy will be massively targeting
Cambridge 1 - 5 Hartpury - Think Pury have got too much quality for the home side
Chinnor 4 - 1 Coventry - Can see the home side causing an upset here
Ealing 5 - 0 Nottingham - I’d like to apologise in advance to Nottingham because they’ll be facing a fired-up Ealing side after their defeat to Donny. Can’t see Trailfinders losing again.
London Scottish 1 - 5 Doncaster - Donny to make amends for the absolute shambles of a performance they delivered in the reverse fixture - the climb up the league starts now.

HT Blues (3 tries) 24-14 (2 tries) Pirates

Blues go up the slope and into the wind 2nd half.

Blues probably should be more up and have denied Pirates the ball. Pirates are down to 14 for the first 5ish mins.

FT Chinnor 37-45 Coventry
1-5
On the upside - Cov continue to score tries.
On the downside - Cov continue to ship tries.
The race for second continues, though. Cov may have a slight advantage over Bedford having played two fewer home games (although one of those is vs Ealing, I think).
Couldbe an interesting run-in.

I tell a lie. The Ealing game is away (and the other two remaing away fixtures are pretty tough too - as are all matches in this league).

Seems like the break might have worked wonders for the Knights. Looking forward to what should be a fantastic game next week against a very good Bedford side.

Frustrating day at the office for Cambridge. Outplayed Hartpury for periods, but came away with nothing.

Should have had one more try, and two bonus points. The ref could have given a penalty try but gave a penalty and a card, and we messed up the subsequent tap move.

Could have had two more and the win had we been just a little sharper.

Several players were playing for a shirt, the new DoR was watching.
Not sure if they did enough to claim one.

Hopefully a better season next year,
Still wondering the RFU Masterplan v3.2 is?
Will Wuss be a damp squib, or overpaid mercenaries?

Could Donny be late Dark Horses for a tilt at second too?

I think Knights are a little too far behind, although they have Blues and Coventry at home and away to Hartpury, so could go unbeaten which would put them close.

I can see Donny finishing ahead of Nottingham and Pirates and potentially reeling in Hartpury for 4th but Bedford and Coventry are probably too far ahead, despite the fact we’ve still got them both to play.  Looking at the remaining games, I would have Coventry as strong favourites for 2nd place. They’ve still got a lot of home games left.

An entertaining and enjoyable game at Chinnor today with Coventry good value for their 5 points but Chinnor probably deserved a losing bonus point. Every time it looked like Coventry would run away with the game, Chinnor would come back to score to stay in touch.

One odd item in the match. After Chinnor scored a try to bring the score to 32-38, it looked to me that both touch judges had raised their flags for the conversion. However, the scoreboard did not move on by 2 points so presumably the referee deemed the kick to have missed and overruled his assistants ( which I have seen before ). Chatting to some Coventry supporters after the final whistle, two thought the conversion was good, but two were adamant it had missed !

Anyway, here is the full write-up for anyone interested :

2 on the bounce for Ampthill, now up in the mid table group of clubs as they move into the second half the season strongly as they seem to do most years.

Not sure why this happens, lack of pre-season games perhaps, whatever it is, it seems to play out this way every year.

Shellacking from Ealing next weekend no doubt

It will help immensely if Ealing can keep a hooker on the field this year.
