Lifted from the BBC! ^

Think Blues have a good opportunity to turnover Ealing, disappointed by our dismal performance against Richmond, which could have seen this be a top of the table clash I am sure the players will be coming out to put a performance after backing up a decent win at Hartpury.

Okay, I'll go first then...
London Scottish 0 - Cornish Pirates 5 - Scottish would struggle in National 1. Truly bad. Pirates on the other hand are quite good. I'd guess about 60-10.
Jersey Reds 4 - Hartpury 1 - I haven't seen Jersey play yet, but they seem to be kicking on well, while Hartpury look to be fading a bit after a strong start.
Doncaster 4 - Richmond 1 - Richmond have been playing much more exciting rugby this year than last, but I suspect that Donny at home will be a step too far.
Bedford 1 - Ealing 5 - Ealing seem to have taken the Pirates game as a rocket up the backside, and I hope that they don't take their foot off the gas for one of the toughest games of the season. Being on grass doesn't help either, but I still think that they'll win it in the end.
Coventry 5 - Nottingham 1 - Coventry seem to really be struggling to get the same players on the field week in and week out, but I still think that they'll put the part timers from Nottingham to the sword.

"Being on grass doesn't help either," A statement I never thought I would hear in rugby!!!!! Being on grass certainly helps players knees and skin!!

London Scottish 0-5 Cornish Pirates. I think it will feel like long, long season for LS, but with no relegation fears, I hope they come back strong next season.
Jersey 5-1 Hartpury. Jersey are strong at home whilst Hartpury are showing signs of inconsistency.
Doncaster 5-0 Richmond. Doncaster are top 4 contenders whilst Richmond’s performances seem to be up and down like a yo-yo.
Bedford 0-5 Ealing. Bedford’s strength lies in their running backs. As the game wears on I think the Bedford forwards will be eaten alive by a rampaging Ealing pack.
Coventry 4-0 Nottingham. I think the home team will scrape a close win in this Midlands derby.

Scottish 1-5 Pirates - On form its a banker but Scottish are a proud club and must surely turn the corner soon.
Jersey 4-1 Hartpury Most difficult to predict as Jersey have shown shocking discipline this season and you are never sure how many ringers Pury will field. Hoping Jersey pack will give them the edge in a close game.
Donny 4-1 Mond- Two good well matched sides but at home I just go with Donny by 4-6 points.
Bedford 5-2 Ealing - Trailfinders head & shoulders the best squad and should eventually win the league by 10 points but this is one of a handful of matches where they may fall short.
Coventry 2-2 Nottingham - Cov have consistently failed to perform to their potential so this is too close to call for me.

London Scottish 0 - 5 Cornish Pirates  - Surely?
Jersey 5 - 2 Hartpury - Both have been brilliant and average . .  home advantage
Doncaster 5 - 0 Richmond - Donny strong at home and Richmond with a few key injuries
Bedford 0 - 5 Ealing - Even playing on grass ET should be too strong for an improving Bedford team
Coventry 4 - 1 Nottingham  - a very even contest, Nottingham might shade it

Predictions this week:
London Scottish 0 v 5 Cornish Pirates - sorry LS, bogey ground or not no upset this time. Pirates by 30+
Jersey 5 v 2 Hartpury - Genuinely don’t have a clue. Both so inconsistent, I think it will be high scoring though
Doncaster 5 v 1 Richmond - Richmond have been good this season but Donny to make it 3 from 3 at home
Bedford 5 v 2 Ealing - Ealing have been smashing everyone recently but this game could bring them back to earth with a massive bump. I see a Pirates-style mugging
Coventry 1 v 4 Nottingham - going for a little surprise here. Coventry have really not turned up so far this season, Notts could capitalise.

So long as Mr Bright is playing, Richmond will have a significant threat, in addition to him their running Scrum Half who seems quite a threat too (we will have to shut down both of those threats if we want to have any hope of getting the 5 pointer).

Bedford Blues starting XV:

15. Rich Lane (C), 14. Pat Tapley, 13. Jamie Elliott, 12. Ethan Grayson (s), 11. Dean Adamson, 10. Will Maisey, 9. Alex Day; 1. Joey Conway, 2. Reece Marshall (s), 3. Corrie Barrett, 4. Luke Frost, 5. Alex Woolford, 6. Bailey Ransom, 7. Joe Atkinson, 8. Tui Uru

Bedford Blues Replacements:

16. Jack Hughes, 17. Josh Pieterse, 18. Osman Dimen, 19. Jordan Onojaife, 20. Oli Stedman, 21. Jake Garside (s), 22. Louis Grimoldby, 23. Matt Worley

Just 3 saints for the Blues, Garside is interesting off the bench, passing needs improving but is electric in open play and will be there to try keep tabs on former Blues Burns.  Blues will be hoping to go down the slope in the 2nd half no doubt.

I like this squad. Not sure I would want to switch out the front 3 qho have dominated the last few matches, but I think Malton is slightly better than Campher on the lineouts. Backs largely unchanged qith Bodilly returning from concussion. 2 backs on the bench. Lesson learnt. Yeeealing!

He'd only just signed with Chinnor week before!
They've had a couple guys jump into Prem/Champ rugby on "loan" recently - weird as you'd think these guys would have full/time off-field careers now.

Possibly not, and certainly nowhere near as good as the squad that was dismantled at the onset of Covid, sadly.
But, there would be no point whatsoever in overspending on players in this utterly meaningless season, only to be bankrupt before next season starts.

Just wonder if Curry can play as he was sent off in his last match!! He is a PT so should be still fit. However 2 reds last year and plenty of yellows he may not be on the pitch that long!

Ealing have exploited the 12 channel, which I was worried pre game as Grayson lacks the size and 3 tries have come from it.

Score not truly reflective of the game.

Blues certainly not getting anything from the officiating with the last try coming from a penalty where the Ealing prop was scrummaging on his knees but wins the penalty, a late tackle which was so late it was seconds after Lane has kicked the ball and then about 7 pens against Ealing in the 22m and no yellow.

Blues would still be losing even with 50:50 decisions.

Blues go down slope with wind in the 2nd half.

Bedford second by a long way today, Ealing blew us away in the first half, I thought they played really good rugby, we were much improved in the 2nd half, but too little too late. The Ealing 7 is a menace at most breakdowns, really slowed our game in the first half, and Ealing seemed to have extra players all over today, especially on the left wing, for most of the first half. They were very clinical, made sure a visit to our 22 resulted in a score, fair play to them, they are big, strong, well drilled and fast, played the game at  great pace.

For me, there were two big positives in Ealing's game today:

1. Their defense. The Ealing defense was aggressive, while largely still retaining its shape. The best example was around the 30 minute mark when Bedford got the ball on the Ealing ten meter line, and over the course of eight or nine phases they pushed Bedford back to their own ten meter line. In previous years, I think Ealing pushes too hard for the turnover, gets out of shape, and allows a break down the middle.

2. Scoring from play. Unlike previous years, I've been seeing a lot more scoring from play, as opposed to from rolling mauls. They've looked really crisp for the last four games.

3. Non-rugby related - the bacon cheeseburger at Goldington Road was absolutely delicious. Mmmm....

That was the best Ealing side I have seen over the many seasons since their return to Championship.   It could have been a closer match, however the Blues 12 and 13 channels leaked like a sieve in the first half and you don’t give a side like Ealing that opportunity without punishment.  Better in 2nd half, but far too late to make a game of it. I thought their No7 was superb.  A good learning experience for the younger blues players.

Blues outclassed in the first half. As others have said, our defence in the 12 channel was awful and Gordon made about 3 breaks leading to tries by simply running at pace at the channel. Litchfield may have shored it up and I don’t think it was coincidence we actually won the period of the game when we replaced Grayson for Grimoldby.

Thought the ref actually had a decent game. My only gripe, and I said the same thing last year, is Bobby De Wee needs to calm down. The way he acts on the pitch is pathetic and embarrassing. They were 50 points up and he is still questioning every referee decision (despite not being captain), screaming and patting everyone on the back after every penalty. I hate to see what he’s like if they are losing! He’s a great player and I’m sure I’d love him if he played for my team but I mentioned last season when I watched Ealing games on TV that his behaviour on the pitch is ridiculous and clearly nothing has changed. It rubs off on the other players but it clearly stems from him and doesn’t help endear Ealing to opposition fans. Was a shame we no longer have Toops to have a word with him…

QUOTE Bluesman :          Blues outclassed in the first half. The considerable wind and slope advantage also contributed to the score in the second half. Ealing Trailfinders also stepped off the gas by a percentage or two.

Bobby De Wee is an exceptional player at this level but like you I dislike his whooping and yelling at every opportunity. I do not think it enters his mind that he needs to endear him self to the opposition supporters . His actual contribution to the game is outstanding , tackling / defence , metres made on carries, off loads, lineout completions and steals.
I think the over zealous jubilation detracts from his game but I forgive him. I think any championship team would like to have in their squad.

My son was with me yesterday and he said to me what a wonderful ground Goldington road is.

One area I do think Ealing could improve is their wingers, the 2 starting weren’t very quick, Tapley and Adamson could turn and catch them. They are going to need more than power in the Premiership, as they won’t overpower Premiership teams.

We really missed someone like Nansen from Saints who would’ve hit the Ealing attacked backwards when coming at us at pace and Douglas at inside centre.

I hope the game always has room for characters like De Wee but slightly surprised to note he has only had a single yellow card this season. If he really has such a caffeine overload every club and referee must be aware of it and I would be surprised if they didn't plan to wind the lad up.

Agree with that. The key to The Pirates win was that we more than matched them at scrum time and line out and knocked them back behind the gainline when they ran at us. Our defence was brilliant and they couldn't break through. They may well have improved since then, but if you can match their power you have a chance to turn them over.

I don’t think he’ll find the prem refs as accommodating to his antics as the championship ones. I can’t imagine Wayne Barnes (or Nigel Owens if he was a prem ref) letting him get away with it.
