Predictions:
Ealing 5-1 Jersey - Having seen both line-ups this could be a lot closer than I first thought. Ealing should still have enough to win but won’t be a procession.
Bedford 5-1 Richmond - Blues at home are usually very strong, they will want to make amends for their last outing at home which was the Jersey game.
Nottingham 1-5 Cornish Pirates - Nottingham do seem to be improving a bit and Pirates have had two tough defeats recently. Will be a lot closer than we thought several weeks ago but CP should still have too much class.
Ampthill 4-1 Hartpury - low scoring game I think. Not much between these two teams.
Doncaster 5-2 Saracens - 2nd v 3rd in the table. Should be a great game between two very evenly matched teams with home advantage providing decisive...!.

I can’t see anything other than a convincing win for Sarries, the pace and power shown today will be too much for Knights.

Ealing 5-0 Jersey - Ealing's injury situation at flyhalf will bear keeping an eye on, but Luke Daniels seemed capable enough in the second half against Pirates. On the fast track at Vallis Way I can't see any other outcome.
Bedford 5-0 Richmond - Bedford probably better than the scoreline today indicated, and I think that they defend the slope.
Nottingham 0-5 Cornish Pirates - Pirates robbed of a lot of class by poor injury luck, but they should still have plenty to overcome the table proppers.
Ampthill 4-1 Hartpury - Ampthill often feel one good phase away from scoring, and I think they'll squeak a low-scoring win.
Doncaster 1-5 Saracens - Sarries took the pre-season match pretty decisively, and should have all of their internationals pending Owen Farrell's recent knock. I'll be rooting for Donny all the way, but don't see the win. I do think Sarries will let a few late tries slip through for the BP.

To be fair in my head I was thinking even with Saracens best team at a packed Goldington Road, we had a chance!

Ealing 2-5 Jersey Given the injuries a strong Jersey squad well capable of causing an upset in this one. Should be rock solid in midfield with Cope/Kuki in tandem and good St Ouen's representation with Roy back at Loose Head. The bookies will favour Ealing but this could go either way so I'm going for Jersey.

Bedford 3-3  Richmond  This should be a cracking even contest a proper Championship game to relish

Nottingham 1-5 Pirates Banker Pirates are a class act and still my outside bet for playoffs

Ampthill 4-1 Hartpury - Home advantage to give Amps the edge.

Donny 1-5 Sarries - Donny should keep their powder dry any points in this one will do nicely.

Listening to the post match interview with Ben Ward, it was David Johnson  normally a 15  who was at fly half in cover for Craig Willis and Ealing have someone called 'Biller" on loan from Ulster as cover, so Jersey may be facing an Ealing team that are not at their best on attack.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/56705816" rel="nofollow - Premiership Rugby have apparently changed the kick-off times for next Saturday.

Quote
According to UK government guidance: "The decision as to whether sporting fixtures continue to go ahead is at the discretion of organisers. Organisers may wish to consider using black armbands and observing a silence before matches are played."

One minute silences are hardly uncommon before rugby matches, and clubs had them this weekend
The match is not formally delayed, but kicks off a minute late

But all footy matches have changed ko times to avoid, not the minutes silence, but the funeral itself. Most EFL matches are kicking off at 12.30. I can't see rugby being any different

Champ matches ko times will change to avoid clashing with the funeral. They will not take place between between 1445 and 1615.

Ealing v Jersey 5-0 No hangover after Cornwall win

Bedford v Richmond 4-1 It will depend if Bedford can win enough ball from Mond pack

Nottingham v Cornish Pirates 0-5 Pirates back to winning ways against struggling Notts

Ampthill v Hartpury 4- 1 could go either way so going with home advantage

Doncaster v Saracens 0-5 Sarries to put down a marker for the league and a ‘warning’ shot to Ealing.

Bedford v Richmond - 3pm - NOW 4.15pm
Nottingham v Cornish Pirates - 3.15pm - NOW 12.30pm

Jersey will move into Stage 5 of the  https://www.gov.je/Health/Coronavirus/SafeExitFramework/Pages/ReconnectionRoadmap.aspx" rel="nofollow - Reconnection roadmap  from Monday, 12 April meaning further easing of restrictions, including new guidance for physical distancing, working from home and gathering limits.

 Key changes:

  • No limit on the number of people at controlled events, such as weddings
  • 20 people can now attend informal gatherings in people's homes or public places such as beaches
  • No limit on participants or spectators at events such as sport or theatre events
  • 2m physical distancing no longer law, but 2m recommended where possible, 1m minimum
  • Working from home no longer default model, new guidance supports return to work
  • Masks must still be worn by public in indoor places, plus contact details provided in some venues
The foregoing is directly copied from the Jersey Government website and how it is interpreted is clearly a matter for organisers of sports events. I would encourage everyone to check with clubs and organisers how its being applied in practice before booking any flights or incurring expense. Just because the rules allow something doesn't mean it will actually happen.

Here is my pennyworth so you can guarantee the complete opposites might happen:

Ealing 5-0 Jersey. Basically, for this shortened season, Ealing will romp every game with the probable exception of Saracens.
Bedford 4-1 Richmond. A battle of two sides trying to find some rhythm.
Nottingham 0-5 Cornish Pirates. An away win for what I believe is the third best team in the league.
Ampthill 5-0 Hartpury. Apart from the Ealing loss, Ampthill have been in with a chance of winning every game they have played. And this is a game they will target.
Doncaster 0-5 Saracens. I think Saracens will win. I think they will score at least 4 tries. And I don't think they will concede 4 tries.

I feel a lot more comfortable about our match on Sunday - Corporal Carrot has not predicted a win by the Knights Wink

We can just go out there, try our best and see what the rugby gods have determined. I cast my mind back a few years ago when the Bristol superstars were subdued at their home ground in front of thousands of Bristolians expecting an easy march to the Premiership. Now I am not saying it will happen, I am saying it could happen...... COYK!

The key will be not conceding scrum penalties. Their whole game seems to depend on that. George is a very powerful factor. It's like having three props.

I think Donny's key objective should be minimum damage in terms of injuries and suspensions and hope Jersey or another club beat Ealing so they get a play off place. Any points gained is a plus for Donny. If Sarries get their four tries early doors they may sub their superstars and Donny can bring their best assets off the bench. Forget kicking pens for the posts and hope for a four try losing bonus point. Let them eat pie!

Yes all noted, but George makes the difference. He started playing against Richmond and their scrum was then stronger than that of Jersey and Pirates for that matter. He's not in the much criticized England team for nothing.

Mako Vunipola, whilst not regarded as the best scrummager in the world at international level, is also still an exceptional scrummager at this level. Itoje will also make a difference to the scrum. It was only Vincent Koch that was playing in those games who is usually first choice. And to be fair, against jersey Saracens had the scrum ascendancy in the 2nd half.

Ealing 5-0 Jersey - The juggernaut to continue
Bedford 5-0 Richmond - Bedford starting to get some injured players back. This might be the game it clicks
Nottingham 0-5 Pirates - Have predicted Nottingham to lose each week and so far proved right...
Doncaster 0-5 Saracens - Officially, a massive game. In reality, Saracens a now a different beast and will be a straightforward win
Ampthill 4-1 Hartpury - Ampthill to grind out a win in a very attritional (read dull) game

It was David Johnson who took over at fly-half for Ealing with Luke Daniels coming on at fullback. However, because they swapped shirts the commentator thought Jordan Burns had come on even though he is a bald scrumhalf, while Daniels is a fullback with a full head of hair. He then thought Daniels came on at scrumhalf later in the match.

Indeed, I was confused during the match; I knew it wasn't Burns, but the picture wasn't good enough for me to notice the commentator's mistake on Daniels vs. Johnson. I did hear Ben Ward in the after match interview explain the switch, and interestingly say that Ealing has cover in from Ulster? I was honestly surprised they had Johnson take the kicks with Daniels out there, as I think he is the better kicker.

Ealing team against Jersey: We see the strength of Ealing's recent connection with Ulster as we grab Bill Johnston (David's brother) to cover at Fly Half. We'll see how that works after only 2 weeks with the squad. Othewise, a massively changed squad that makes me nervous. Obviously injuries have fly half thin, and missing Alun Walker due to a knock is a big blow. I don't know why Bobby De Wee is suddenly a 6 but I'm worried for the scrum overall - lots of changes. One positive is seeing Dean Hammond return from injury, he was huge in the Trailfinders cup. This feels like a trap game to me.

1. Kyle Whyte, 2 Shaun Malton, 3 Lewis Thiede, 4 Simon Linsell, 5 Harry Casson, 6 Bobby De Wee, 7 Simon Uzokwe, 8 Rayn Smid, 9 Craig Hampson, 10 Bill Johnston, 11 Dean Hammond, 12 Pat Howard, 13 Max Bodilly, 14 Anugs Kernohan, 15 David Johnston

16. Michael Van Vuuren, 17 Will Davis, 18 Elliot Millar Mills, 19 James Cannon, 20 Guy Thompson, 21 Shane Buckley, 22. Jordan Burns, 23 Luke Daniels

With the sole exception of GT who is a legend I think Jersey have the stronger bench. Should be a cracking match which could go down to the wire and I'm hopeful of a Jersey win. Back in the day GT played for Jersey in the backs in the second half in my first ever visit to VW and scored a try in an away win against the odds. Wish I could be there tomorrow and hope its a cracking match win or lose.

Not good for any of them. Ozokwe injury was called by the ref as legal counter ruck. There was no replay but my first instinct was a no bind, just a clear out straight to the head. I think the citing officer may come into play here. Otherwise a good win for Ealing but much to work on at the breakdown.

I can't shake the spectre of defeat in 2019 to Richmond away. Ben Ward rested most of the first team and lost. If they would have won, then there would have been a winner take all final game set up with Irish (thanks to a surprise stumble on their part). Hence trap game.

A supporter of a team who are strong favourites for a game is pessimistic about the outcome - that's quite common, isn't it?

Fair play, ET were very strong today. The Reds didn't seem badly-placed at 36-17 after 2/3rds of the match, it was pretty bad after that.

Ealing's place in PO final seems almost certain (not mathematically I mean, but in all probability) which in a way means the Sarries' game (in April) is less important to them. But if they were to beat Sarries, then Donny and the Pirates could conceivably steal second...

Will be dependant on finances and I know Rayer does want a slightly larger core squad next year for a full season, but we signed a 3 year deal with Saints so expect we’ll still be relatively reliant on them next season but not to same extent as this season

3 of the 12 we would consider “ours” Litchfield was a junior blue throughout, Robinson was a Blues academy player and Tupai spent a decade or so carrying the tee onto the pitch!

Part of the problem this year was we had a number of expensive players on 2 year contracts which will have eaten into the reduced budget from not having a crowd. The crowd is a huge source of income, so I would expect this year we have had to be more reliant on DR’s than next, but there will still be a number of these.

Injuries haven’t helped either.

This was the year we were meant to be solely self sufficient having run at a profit for 3 years previously with Irvine stepping back from supporting the club. Not quite sure what happened.

Also if we are going into a period of no promotion for 3 years, we may as well save some money and let some of the youngsters get a game.

Firstly how can you say that 3 out of the 12 loan players you fielded yesterday are “yours”

They are contracted to and paid by Northampton not Bedford, they are very clearly not your players!

Richmond were poor yesterday and Bedford a lot better the better side won, but to call it a Bedford side is a error

Bedford have gone the way they wished, good luck to them but it’s very clear to all that Saints are pulling the strings. For a big squad like Northampton have it makes perfect sense, they keep all the guys together with no A league games to play!
I understand the deal is 3 years, when the A league returns next year it will be interesting to see what sort of players Bedford receive, most players won’t be playing twice a week.

So much so that it was not even a Bedford guy on the mic.
Hopley the academy manager from Northampton did it.
Was that because he knew the players better than anybody from Bedford!

Well it’s absolutely fantastic weather in Donny for the game today. Castle Park would have looked absolutely glorious in sunshine and with a full house in the ground. I think all the 🍺 and 🥧 supplies may have been gobbled up though.

Ampthill 5-14 Hartpury

Entertaining start. Hartpury score in first minute, but Ampthill roar right back with a try of their own. But then a charge down sees the Hartpury lock charge over.

Ampthill 5-21 Hartpury score their third try after only 14 minutes. The A's just haven't turned up yet.

That's more like it. Penalty awarded. Kick to within 10 meters of line. Catch, drive, score.

Ampthill 12-24 Hartpury

Hartpury obviously starting to panic as they kick a penalty rather than run it.

Breathless match by the sound of it. Dave Ward hasn’t lost his touch yet. It’ll be great to have him back at the Mennaye next week.

For the reasons The Blues has given - that's how; clearly talking about historic link between the player and Bedford, rather than contractual 'ownership' of them right now...

Geez, I really need to stop making predictions. Good call on my part with the predicted low scoring win for Ampthill :(
