Ealing Trailfinders team to face Hartpury: Not enamored with this squad as I see to much change. Craig Willis is out with an concussion, but I question why Uzokwe and Smid would be rotated to the bench. Seems like a good way to slip on a banana skin. Also, wondering where Jack Metcalf has gone, as he looked brilliant. Good to see Burns back in the 23. 15. Jonah Holmes 14. David Johnston 13. Max Bodilly 12. Reuben Bird-Tulloch 11. Luke Daniels 10. Steven Shingler 9. Craig Hampson 1. Kyle Whyte 2. Jan-Henning Camper 3. Lewis Thiede 4. Bobby De Wee 5. Barney Maddison (C) 6. Rob Farrar 7. Carlo Tizzano 8. Will Montgomery Replacements 16. Cam Terry 17. Will Davis 18. Jimmy Roots 19. Simon Linsell 20. Simon Uzokwe 21. Jordan Burns 22. Dan Lancaster (debut) 23. Rayn Smid

And where is Oli Fox, potentially your best 9 with a superior pass and box kick than the other 2 that have featured in the match day squads .....

| So...Caldy is essentially the polar opposite of Hartpury, who once fielded 13 dual reg or loan players to consign Richmond to relegation.

Caldy is probably the polar opposite of most other clubs in the Championship ......apart from Ampthill who have a stadium which is similar to Caldy's Paton Field Stadium

Key play of game was Bedford winning turnover penalty under own posts. Then taking a tap and go and going 95m to score 4th try.

Bedford were much the better side in the second half and the backs were very impressive. Unfortunately The Pirates will not be as strong this season, with a lot of new faces and some rebuilding required.

Sounds like a cracking weekend of games. To expand on the Ealing game, really a tale of two teams. Ealing left 4 or 5 of their best players on the bench to give game time to the 2nd team. The second team players struggled mightily, conceding countless penalties. Hartpury honestly probably made no more than 25 meters with ball in hand against even the 2nd team, but they marched down a couple of times on the back of silly, silly penalties.
Ealing then brought on most of their starters between 55 and 60 minutes, and blew Hartpury out of the water. The leadership of Rayn Smid made an immediate difference in focusing the team and the stupid penalties stopped immediately. Then Uzokwe rampaged all over the field, looking like a man amongst boys, and Will Davis brought almost instant scrum dominance.
Worth mentioning that Ealing's line out was atrocious until Cam Terry came in, as I think we lost maybe 5 straight throw ins. Jonathan Thomas has some work to do.

Which appears to be the final score if the beeb is correct. Quite a comeback, as the last time I checked they were 19-0 and three tries down. Was driving all afternoon (south through rural France) and with a very patchy signal when I had one at all, so it's just come as a bit of a shock to see a 5-2. (Someone tell me the beeb haven't cck'ed up. I wouldn't put it past them).

With the captain out injured from Jersey last week, Josh Bainbridge was acting captain, and Ma'asi was starting at hooker, and therefore unable to provide back row cover.Tom Ball was brought into the bench. Josh Bainbridge then picked up an injury in training, Ball stepped up to replace him leaving no 2nd row or back row cover on the bench, and Will Wand (a centre) brought into the bench. Trinder was made captain for the day. Then to add to the pain Harry Seward went off injured.
Ma'asi had a stormer in open play , although the line out was not great. Very strong performance from Tiki. The team took quite a while to get going together with all these unplanned changes. In the second half though they came together. The referee got tired of some of Ampthills 'tactics' and started handing out penalties, and although three kickablebones were missed, tries were scored and Coventry gained a lead they did not lose.

I too was out this afternoon. Not quite rural France. But Ripon is very nice. Followed the game as much as I could on Twitter. Frankly the result was disappointing. The As were 19-0 up, then 24-12 up. And still lost. To be fair it sounds like Coventry owned the last 30 minutes. At least it was two points bagged. And Ampthill have now lost their opening three games to teams I expect to finish in the top 6. Thank you Mr Championship Fixture Secretary.

Caldy seemingly had it won. Dominating up front but with only a slender 19-17 lead and then brain fog. A Caldy penalty and a win from the line out looked set for 2 minutes of keep ball............but a wayward kick hands posession to Notts and a delighted Harry Graham dots down under the posts.
30 seconds to go and Caldy have to settle for a losing bonus point when all 4 were seemingly in the bag.....but from the restart a technical infringement hands Notts an easy 3 points and Caldy lose the losing bonus point as well.
Harsh lessons of Championship level rugby. Otherwise it was a grand day at the Paton Field Stadium

Scottish defence did remarkably well to hold the score down in the first half when they rarely had the ball but when the dam burst at the start of the second half the Scottish midfield literally couldn't cope. Jersey forwards were exceptional - again. Jersey will probably lose a few key players to the prem but I hope we see Toby Venner playing behind that pack before then. I watched the match from the sunny Pagoda side of the ground with a small group of Scottish faithful supporters who were excellent and gracious company despite their club taking a battering and called into ODP before the game. I genuinely hope to eventually see both Scottish and Welsh exiles with competitive teams back in the Championship. Who did that carnage to the Triple Crown Pub? Richmond is blessed with some great Pubs but the TC was surely special.

London Welsh are not doing well this season, sitting 11th in Regional 1 South Central.
So it will be a while.
Scottish would have been relegated last season, and did not compete in the Covid season,
It looks like they might be "saved" from relegation one more time.
The question is how do they go from losing badly to rebuilding? It is not a good way to attract new fans. Do they need to be relegated in order to reinvent themselves?
There was talk that without the central funding they thought they would struggle to be competitive at National 1 - and it is a tough league, if you are not pressing for promotion, you are worried about relegation.

Doncaster 48 - 24 Richmond 7 Yellow Cards 5/2 split 7 penalties against the knights 5 YC??? Still trying to process that - some very poor calls by the officials (including one against Richmond) the whistle seemed to interrupt the game more than any errors did. Richmond squeezed in the try bonus point in the 80 th minute when we were down to 12 men (lost our last prop to injury so uncontested scrums for the last 3 minutes and down a man for that and two consecutive yellow cards). I reckon we could have got 70+ points yesterday if players had stayed on the pitch.
Shout out to Mark Bright - he still does the business and was worthy of his try

Just seen the video of one of Doncaster’s tries against Richmond. Might be one of the worst refereeing decisions I’ve ever seen at this level. Richmond clearly score a try, for some reason it isn’t awarded (assume ref thinks it was short or knocked on - neither of which is the case) and Doncaster run the length to score under the posts. A 14 point swing. I would be very aggrieved if I was a Richmond fan, that’s not one of those decisions that evens out throughout the game.

The clip you are referring to is from Championship Rugby on Twitter - and it says "This would be a great @DoncasterKnight try if it wasn't a great @RichmondFC1861 try" If you have the sound on when you watch the clip you will hear the ref check with the assistant ref "Try there?" followed by "Yep yep" . So unfortunately your 14 point swing statement doesn't stand - however talking of worst refereeing decisions there were about 4 yellow cards that weren't merited, one of these was against Richmond.
Here are the trylights of the match.... noting the try you refer to is not present.

Okay, I am aggrieved that Ealing's last try didnt even make the Try of the Week shortlist. Feom about 2:30, Simon Uzokwe shoves/carries 3 players from 10 meter line to 10 meter line, then Jordan Burns snipes over from there.

Very powerful and impressive strength but not the greatest try for this week (sorry).

Ah fair enough, my mistake. Bit of waste of gas from the Doncaster winger!

Agree with others that it was an extremely powerful carry, but not try of the week material. What was obvious is how powerful the Ealing forwards were. Certainly way too strong for Hartpury.
