Nottingham 4-1 Hartpury - Hartpury are strong in defence. Just don’t seem to score much. Ampthill 4-1 London Scottish - Another Close home win for the As. Doncaster 1-4 Jersey - Nearly too close to call. Coventry 5-0 Yorkshire Carnegie - Home side to have a rampant afternoon. Ealing 4-1 Bedford - Possibly the game of the day. Newcastle 5-1 Cornish Pirates - The Falcons are too strong at home.

Nottingham 4-1 Hartpury - Hartpury defense stout, but Nottingham are very dangerous at home. I think Nottingham fall just short of the BP, and Hartpury score less than 10. Ampthill 4-1 London Scottish - Ampthill should just accept that they are Gryffindor and call themselves the Griffins. Imagine the fan turnout. Anyhow, I think they'll grind out a home win. Doncaster 4-1 Jersey - Jersey left it all out on the field on Saturday, and I wonder if they won't suffer a bit of a hangover in Doncaster. Knights need the win. Coventry 5-0 Yorkshire Carnegie - Hmmm...7 Kiwis saved Leeds last year. Something tells me 3 Namibians won't have the same effect. Ealing 5-1 Bedford - I've read that Ealing is losing 3 key front rowers to Quins, I'm hoping that this doesn't inspire a collapse the next week in the manner that happened against Donny 2 years ago when a load of players were going. Newcastle 5-1 Cornish Pirates - The heart says Pirates, the Head says nope.

At the height of the HP saga Amps club shop got a delivery of new scarves in September which were, entirely coincidentally, clones of those worn by Gryffindor in the movies. They sold out in 2 days, as did the next batch and the next, etc. etc. It was only when the parents started asking for wands that we realised they we were undercutting the official merch by 75%...

Predictions: Nottingham 4 - 1 Hartpury - Nottingham at home are decent and should win here. Ampthill 5 - 0 London Scottish - Amps to win comfortably. Another indifferent season for Scottish. Doncaster 1 - 5 Jersey - coming from a Donny fan Jersey are the better side. Coventry 5 - 0 Yorkshire Carnegie - simple really even with Namibian influx. Ealing 5 - 2 Bedford - Blues are totally rejuvenated. this could be a belter of a game. Newcastle 1 - 4 Cornish Pirates - this could be the one to break the unbeaten streak. just hope the real Pirates side turns up.

Nottingham 4-1 Hartpury - Tight but home advantage Ampthill 4-1 London Scottish - Ampthill looking like they are going a permanent fixture for years to come, LS less convincing Doncaster Knights 1-4 Jersey - Knights not great Coventry 5-0 Yorkshire Carnegie - Enough said Ealing 5-0 Bedford - Bedford improving and might pick up a bonus point Newcastle 5-2 Cornish Pirates - This could be entertaining

Nottingham 4 v 1 Hartpury ... Nottingham have hit a run of form, but Hartpury are a tough nut to crack. Tight game, but the hosts to win.
Ampthill 5 v 2 London Scottish ... This could be anything. I hope that the weather doesn't spoil, what could be a really entertaining game. Ampthill to win, why not?
Doncaster Knights 1 v 4 Jersey ... Jersey will be looking to make amends from their trip to Yorkshire for the Cup game. All depends on whether Jersey have a fit back line, if they do then I can see them winning a tight game (it's always tight between Donny & Jersey).
Coventry 5 v 0 Yorkshire Carnegie ... More of the same in store for YC I'm afraid.
Ealing 5 v 2 Bedford ... Mouth watering. Bedford are on a real surge, but will surely come up against a brick wall this weekend. The surface will suit Bedford though, so expect lots of points, just too much all over the park for Ealing.
Newcastle 4 v 1 Cornish Pirates ... Pirates will have to be at their best if they hope to get anything out of this game, but they do have it in them. Should be another cracking game.

Nottingham 2-2 Hartpury - a tight low scoring match although 4-1 either way more likely
Ampthill 5-2 London Scottish If I struggle to get to Donny due to the weather the match I would like to see.
Doncaster Knights 3-3 Jersey Could go either way - another great contest and a decent portion of pie would tick all the boxes for me whoever wins
Coventry 5-0 Yorkshire Carnegie Cov have got a great squad and should show it against a patched up Yorkie team
Ealing 5-0 Bedford - Two good teams but at home Trailfinders to go nap.
Newcastle 1-5 Cornish Pirates Howay Pirates take the favourites on.

Nottingham 5 - 0 - Hartpury Uni/RFC - hosts to be too strong for @EnglandRugby’s preferred model team Ampthill 4 - 1 London Scottish - Suspect home knowledge and form will carry the day Doncaster Knights 4 - 1 Jersey Reds - The need for a home win could make the difference between two even sides Coventry 5 - 0 Yorkshire Carnegie - Cov you gave them their only bonus point, let that be the only one please. Ealing Trailfinders 5 - 0 Bedford Blues - the Blues revival to hit the buffers at Vallis Way. Newcastle Falcons 5 - Cornish Pirates- sorry Pirates, a long haul for no reward.

Junior is out until after the end of the season, as is Max Trimble, so we've been a bit short in the backs. Add to that two back 3 players leaving for premiership clubs, one loaned to a Premiership club, and one getting himself suspended for a dangerous tackle, and it's been looking very thin back there.

Ealing Trailfinders team to play Bedford Blues on Saturday 15th February at Trailfinders Sports Club: I guess I'm fine with this line up. Over half way through the season, and I'm feeling that the team is more dynamic with Willis starting, while Shingler is steadier. I'd prefer dynamic. I assume Jordy Reid is getting a rest, but interested to see how this backrow performs together as a bit of a different combination. Excited by the backs - lots of pace. Rotation up front should keep people fresh, and happy to see Dave McKern eased back into the 23.

Windy conditions at the BPA, and so much rain before the game that the players were kicking up splashes even on the AGP.
YC were awarded a penalty on the initial play of the game, and scored their three points there. Even playing with the wind thye showed more likelihood of putting the ball dead thn scoring.
Second half, with the strengthening wind Cov put on the pressure, and YC tired. Embarassing at times seeign how slow some of their players were.

I was exceptionally unimpressed with the first half, to the extent that I didn't even cheer tries.
I lost count of the times we spilled the ball when a try would have been the correct answer. I know the conditions didn't help, but Cov were really poor at times. However, Leeds brought the sum of zilch, and can probably consider themselves fortunate not to have shipped 70 or more. The second stanza was much improved (seems a recurring theme of late), and ball retention and scoring rate ramped up considerably, and was helped along by the usual injection of pace (and two tries) from Pete White when he eventually entered the fray. Reasonable turnout too, all things considered, but just failing to breach 2k, so slightly disappointing.

Thought, as usual, Cov tried the miracle offload way too much in the first half - risky play even on a good day. It's as if we don't trust our breakdown play.
Once we played the elements possession turned into points. I get that players want to play with flair but today wasn't the day for it.

Donny forwards were immense, had Jersey’s front row tied in knots. Usual good handling from our old and portly pack and for once the backs came to the party. Best display for years.
Jersey pack a shadow of previous years, but the backs looked very dangerous.

Yes, the rash offloading was definitely a large part of (but not all) the problem.

Well I came away from that display happy, Donny finally turned up to the races. Sadly for Jersey, who were made to look a tad ordinary. Yes, Dennis was a Menace, but both teams played in it. Our pack ripped Jersey apart, well relatively speaking (ma'am quickly saw that and consistently called it that way, although a card was probably called for).
Kyle Evans scored a hat trick, which he had to work for each try, hence his MoM.Quigley earned his pay, Hislop slaughtered his opposite number - whom I believe the Jersey 3 is off to the big boys.....
We will take the 5 points gratefully

Just to try to redress the balance from the ‘Non-Chuckle Brothers’, I came away from the BPA quite happy. Playing in the first half in the teeth of Storm Dennis, Cov managed to turn around 17-3 ahead, despite trying to force the play, resulting in dropped passes or knock-ons. The water was sloshing around even on the AGP surface the whole game. Credit to both sides in trying to play the game and keep it as open as possible. A crowd of just under 2000 in that weather was an excellent turnout and playing with the win in the second period brought 6 deserved tries. Kimbo says the line outs were improved, I agree, and it’s something that has seemed to be an issue all season. In that wind, the deliveries were almost perfect. A decent effort. All in all , not a bad day for me. One slight concern for me was the substitution of Ryan Burrows who was replaced late on. Hope he won’t be out for too long as he has been, possibly, our best performer this season.

Rough justice for Pirates just now - Falcons 3rd try went to TMO and in the absence of clear evidence they stuck with the on-field decision of 'try given.' Then Pirates cross and it goes to TMO and in the absence of clear evidence they overturn the on-field decision of 'try given.'

disagree about Adam Leal. He's a capable ref and has been ok today - my only negative observation is that he seems less comfortable and assertive when dealing with a TMO than Messrs Barnes, Owens, Pearce etc. Which isn't surprising...

I eventually got back on the rock and looking positive Jersey can surely not play like that against Ealing next week. The loose head side structure of Jersey's scrum was woeful and it made Quigley into a shoe in for the international 15 next week end. 2 yellow yards - should have been 3 for taking a man out in the air - and no game management on the field or from the coaches on the side lines. Donny were made to look better than the pies but Jersey would have struggled against Guernsey on Saturday. Great to see Pembo back in a Jersey shirt and Jake Upfield had another cracking match. Sort it out before Ealing next Saturday - please!
------------- Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

Clearly just weren't up for the trip and Doncaster were. These things happen.

I guessed not but feel free to read the match reports.
As our local blogger Tim Smith wrote today we scored: 'five tries in the last 22 minutes (four in the final 10)' so what seemed like a one-sided game only became so once we became less profligate with attacking ball - a trait that has marred many a first half this season. It wasn't quite the day for expansive rugby in the Midlands.
The 52 points we finally scored has to be weighed considerably against the quality of opponent. One or two of the sides in this division would likely have scored in excess of 70 and, love or loathe our hard to please personas, that is the standard we strive for.
