Jersey 5-0 Yorkshire Carnegie - If YC do start to grind out some results I don't think it will be this weekend. L Scottish 0-4 Ealing Trailfinders - LS are improving but Ealing might be too good. Nottingham 0-5 Newcastle Falcons - I expect Newcastle to revert to their first team and romp it. Ampthill 4-1 Doncaster - Like castleparknight, some optimism here. But if As can beat Coventry at home then they have a good chance in this match too. Hartpury 1-4 Coventry - Provided Coventry turn up, they should win. Cornish Pirates 4-0 Bedford - Bedford are on the up but Penzanze is a hard place to pick up points. |

Jersey 5-0 Yorkshire Carnegie - Leeds put up a better than expected fight against Newcastle, but I still think that they are a ways off winning a game. L Scottish 0-5 Ealing Trailfinders - Ealing selection (after some late changes) was actually excellent last week, and if they play a similar team, then they will win comfortably. Will be nice to see the unaging Mark Bright in action though. Nottingham 4-1 Newcastle Falcons - Friday night at Lady Bay can be quite the trap game, and I think Newcastle stumble into it. Ampthill 4-1 Doncaster - Ampthill are better than they looked last weekend, and should defend their home patch. Line out was much improved from earlier in the season. Hartpury 1-4 Coventry - I think Cov just pip a low scoring match. Cornish Pirates 4-1 Bedford - Happy to see Bedford gathering momentum, but I don't think they've ramped up enough to sink the Pirates in Penzance. |

some interesting games this week, predictions: Jersey 5-0 Yorkshire Carnegie - even though the reds aren't really firing this season they should win this comfortably. think YC will have their moments of promise though like they did against Falcons. London Scottish 1-5 Ealing - Ealing too strong for Scottish. high scoring game. Nottingham 1-4 Newcastle - don't think this is a gimme for Falcons but they should have enough. Nottingham at home are awkward though. Ampthill 4-1 Doncaster - Donny were extremely lucky last week against Nottingham and need to improve. Ampthill are a far better side at home. I'm not confident of a win for the Knights. Hartpury 4-1 Coventry - can see Hartpury squeaking this but very close. Cornish Pirates 5-0 Bedford - Blues have had a bit of an upturn but Pirates are a classy outfit this season. can't see any other outcome.

Ealing Trailfinders team to play London Scottish on Friday 24th January at the Richmond Athletic Ground in Round 10 of the Greene King IPA Championship:I really like this selection, with a combination of speed and power on the wings that can open up the middle of the field. A great front three as well, and Willis/Burns is my favorite 9/10 partnership. You could argue for McKern or Casson on form, but there isn't much in it. All in all, a strong squad. Jersey 5 Yorkshire Carnegie 0 ... Anything less than this is a failure for the Reds. a big home win is a must. London Scottish 0 Ealing Trailfinders 5 ... It will take a while, but I see ET breaking LS down for a scoreboard comfortable win...maybe not so comfortable on the pitch. Nottingham 0 Newcastle Falcons 5 ... Falcons will be back to full strength for this one. Nottingham will give it a go, but 'should' be outclassed. Hartpury University 4 Coventry 1 ... Game of attrition this one. Hartpury really difficult to beat at home and Cov not always at their best on the road. Low scoring, the odd penalty in it. Ampthill 5 Doncaster Knights 2 ... This could be a classic. Donny will feel as though they have to/should win this and the Village will be thinking that this is one on their hit list. Lots of chucking the ball around, loads of points. Cornish Pirates 5 Bedford Blues 0 ... Pirates are in the form of their lives (well, recent lives at least) at the moment and I think that they will prove too much for the Blues, who are on a bit of form themselves, so it should be a really good game to watch. I still think that the Pirates will out muscle them though. |

Jersey 5 -0 Yorkshire Carnegie - I hope it's a real contest but I fear Christians v Lions stuff. Scottish 1-4 Ealing Trailfinders - A real local Derby with the squad they have Ealing should win by more than 20 points but I expect Scottish to make it much closer. Nottingham 4-1 Falcons - Howay Notts at home you can be first to beat the Toon lads. Ampthill 5-2 Doncaster should be a brilliant match going either way and lots of tries Hartpury 1-4 Coventry - A close low scoring match - great BBQ fare at the far end of the pitch. | Bit late but cracking game at Lady Bay last night. Had Nottingham pushed a bit harder we could have won. Falcons discipline terrible (down to 12 men at one point, I’m sure even Mr Mark Smith can’t disagree with the lack of discipline shown by the Falcons) and as for Dean Richard’s remarks that the pitch and floodlights were terrible- I was talking to one of the players last night who has played for both clubs and he said the pitch held out well. Falcons fans complaining that against such ‘terrible opposition’ the score should have been so much more but Nottingham were very good last night. Very proud of the lads and the sterling effort they put in. |

Forget the score line in Jersey last night. I thought that YC gave a very good account of themselves considering half of them still had acne. Their maul was absolutely first class (probably the best that I have seen so far this season) and they defended the maul well as well. Ball out wide was a different matter though. Jersey butchered some scores, so probably should have been more than 56-17, but more entertaining than I was expecting. This YC squad would probably finish in the top half of Nat1 on this performance IMHO. |

Sort of agree with Brizzer, but I'd have far less sympathy for Leeds - most of the Leeds backs looked under age, just as well they weren't on the beer after the game. What I can't fathom is the Reds' back five selection in the scrum. All are flankers not specialists, so we have no genuine locks and no specialist number 8 being picked; Why ? And we have at least two proper locks sitting at home. Is Alex Thompson out injured - not been seen since about October ? I guess a flanker is easier to lift in the line out, but against Pirates on the 18thwhen chasing the seven points which could have won us the game, albeit against the run of play, it was unforgivable to see our attacking maul shoved straight into touch when 15 yards out from Pirates line in the scoreboard corner. Two years ago, the Captain was Pierce Philips who went on to the Premiership. He lent both ballast and presence in a dominant pack. ------------- Come on Jersey........ |

Ampthill 30 Doncaster 26, https://www.ampthillrufc.com/1stxv-30-doncaster-26-sat-jan-25-2020-championship/" rel="nofollow - match report can be found here Amps in control at 16-0 until a serious injury break (get well soon Ollie) after which the visitors stepped up/hosts went off the boil (choose which ever you feel appropriate) scoring either side of half time. At 16-14 the game was in the balance but Amps scored twice in 5 minutes to lead 30-14 with 18 minutes left. Doncaster came back hard, causing all sorts of trouble leading to 2 yellow cards for Amps and two converted tries for the visitors while men short. Amps played the last couple minutes plus injury time with 14 and, astonishingly, held out by stealing a last play of the game Doncaster lineout deep in their 22. Wasn't the highest standard of rugby but boy was it entertaining for the crowd, 8 tries, line breaks galore and nary a fist raised in anger! ------------- a Freudian slip is when you say one thing but mean your mother |

Well to be honest CC the knights were not on form yesterday, lots of errors and some poor decisions I think cost us in the end. Kudos to Ampthill who capitalised on their opportunities and kept their error count in control. If there had been 10 minutes more match time I think we would have won because fitness was starting to tell. I look forward to welcoming Amps to Castle Park. P.S. my first visit there and I enjoyed it, nice crowd, suitable pitch (seen worse) the drinks tent was nice enough, loved the open air urinals..... ------------- Onward and Upwards C'mon Donny! |

There'll hopefully be a Q&A session in Jersey in the coming weeks so supporters can ask Harvey about selection. But the perception that small/light/athletic back 5 players are being picked ahead of large hulking specialist locks isn't that clear-cut. The 5 players in that position are all within 8kg/1 stone of each other. Charlie Beckett has played regularly and is 120kg, the heaviest of the 5. Rory Bartle is the lightest at 112kg and the other regular has been Kyle Hatherell, 114kg. All the above are 6' 4". The two who haven't played much are not significantly heavier - Liam Hallam-Eames and Alex Thompson both 116kg. They're both a couple of inches taller, but don't think that's a significant factor given that lineout jumpers are lifted. Thompson spent time on loan in Nat 1 before Christmas. Pierce Phillips was a great player, yes, and deservedly made the Championship dream XV in his final season with the Reds and at the same time got a Prem opportunity with Worcester. He moved to Agen (French Top 14) at the end of last season.

| Thought Bedford played really well and were unlucky not to get more. They looked like they could score from anywhere and made some excellent breaks from their 22. Hard to say who really deserved the win as there was nothing to separate the two sides in a scrappy game in difficult conditions. Happy to be on the correct side of a tight game though. |

Sounded like a really absorbing game in Cornwall today. Bedford are starting to get some form back and I am looking at our trip to Bedford next week with more and more trepidation. Jersey need to win to get some daylight from Coventry who play high frying Pirates at home. Bedford will be looking to win against a decent Jersey side to move further away from YC. Pirates will be looking to hang on to Newcastle’s shirt tails with a good win at Cov. 2 cracking games in prospect next weekend

| What are Bedford doing at the bottom end of the table? yesterday at the Mennaye the real Bedford turned up and gave as good as they got and we had a real game on our hands rather than a top v bottom easy ride as we had two weeks ago. I do think that we deserved the win in the end though as we are getting better at closing tight games out unlike last season were we let tight games slip from our grasp. |

| Bedford were very good and stretched Pirates to the limit. Pirates had to dig deep and put in a huge defensive shift. Bedford defence was solid and they caused real problems, especially on the left - the winger is very quick! |
