My predications
Newcastle vs. Bedford - 5 - 0 - The only thing that can stop Newcastle at home might be pandemic. Ampthill vs. Pirates - 1-4 - I think Pirates edge it in the Ampthill Amphitheater. Doncaster vs. Coventry - 4-1 - Knights to use homefield advantage and a rest to garner a close win against a Coventry side that has been injury hit this year quite badly. Nottingham vs. Jersey - 5-1 - Jersey seem to have fallen off form recently a bit, so I'll go with the home win again. Ealing vs. Leeds - 5-0 - I have wanted to watch this game all year, and would like to see a cricket score. Any club that treats its players this way deserves whatever it gets. Scottish vs. Hartpury - 4-1 - Game of the week for me. Scottish will be stinging from the RFU cuts, but I don't think that Hartpury has the firepower to overcome a Scottish side that can be very awkward to face and can score points in bursts.

Ealing Trailfinders team to take on Leeds tomorrow: Happy to see some returns from injury with Tommy Bell and Jordan Burns returning to the bench. Clearly some squad rotation going on against Leeds. Interesting to see a couple of youngsters in the squad, with Robinson getting a start and Seward on the bench. A good idea to get Seward gametime experience if half the front row is off to Quins next year. No Rayn Smid in the squad - must be the first time in 2 years. Should be capable of doing the business.
15 - Peter Lydon 14 - Pat Howard 13 - David "The Ghost" Johnson - why, why oh why put him on the field? 12 - Harry Sloan 11 - Reon Joseph 10 - Steven Shingler 9 - Craig Hampson 1 - Will Davis 2 - Alun Walker 3 - Elliot Millar-Mills 4 - Ben West 5 - Harry Casson 6 - Adam Korczyk 7 - Oli Robinson 8 - Kieran Murphy
Subs - Matt Cornish (H), Jake Ellwood, Harry Seward, Dave McKern, Shane Buckley, Jordan Burns, Craig Willis, Tommy Bell

Nottingham v Jersey is OFF
I've been told there is Coronavirus in the Jersey ranks, we wish those affected a speedy recovery.

Newcastle v Bedford - 5-0 - I personally think Newcastle are unstoppable and will still prove too much for a very improved Bedford side. Ampthill v Cornish Pirates - 4-1 - As an A's supporter, we have seen off Doncaster and Coventry in the woods. Let's see if they can continue the trend. A massive task though as CPs are an awesome unit. Doncaster v Coventry - 4-1 - Here are two teams that play much better at home than away, so the home side gets the nod. But it will be close. Nottingham v Jersey - Game off. And I fear it will be a while before Jersey play again. Ealing v Yorkshire Carnegie - 5-0 - I read that Ealing are resting some players for this one, but I still think this might be my only correct prediction of the week, thus securing Ampthill's presence in the Championship next season. And I didn't think I would be saying that as early as this at the start of the season. L Scottish v Hartpury - 4-1 - This could be a humdinger but I expect LS to edge it.
I hope no more games will fall victim to the coronavirus pandemic, but if they do then they do.

Saturday's Greene King Championship IPA match between Nottingham and Jersey Reds has been postponed. The fixture has been postponed as a result of two Jersey Reds’ players being asked to self-isolate by Jersey Health Authority due to close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19. At present neither of the players are displaying any symptoms of COVID-19, nor are any of the other players in the Jersey Reds squad. This precautionary decision was taken in the interests of the health of all players and management in both teams as well as the public they would have come into contact with. Discussions on rescheduling the game will take place in due course and an update provided when possible.

I'll be pleasantly surprised of there's a round 16. With no promotion or relegation to be played for at this stage, the advent of this virus may put a premature end to the season.

Newcastle Falcons 5 - 0 Bedford Blues - banker home win for Champions-elect. Ampthill 1 - 4 Cornish Pirates - Pirates to nullify Amps home advantage Doncaster Knights 1 - 4 Coventry need to arrest a shocking away form slump Nottingham - Jersey Reds - Postponed London Scottish 4 - 1 Hartpury - a home win, but only just Ealing Trailfinders 5 - 0 Yorkshire Carnegie- games running out for Carnegie, no change in fortunes here.
Enjoy your rugby, but most of all , stay healthy.

Just a slight clarification Shush, no-one has coronavirus, so no recovery necessary at this stage, it's a precautionary measure right now (statement below):
"Saturday's Greene King Championship IPA match between Nottingham and Jersey Reds has been postponed.

Newcastle vs. Bedford 5 - 0 Falcons roll on. Blues could sneak a point, but probably wont. Ampthill vs. Pirates 4 - I Pirates should win of course, but Amps at home are tough nut to crack Doncaster vs. Coventry 4-1 Dour battle which could see Cov slip outside top four Nottingham vs. Jersey Match postponed. . Ealing vs. Leeds 5-0 Good weather and fast surface could be good for the ton-up Scottish .v. Hartpury 2-2 Two well-matched outfits, I predict a 22-22 draw

Ampthill 13 Pirates 30, match report can be found https://www.ampthillrufc.com/1stxv-13-cornish-pirates-30-sat-mar-14-2020-championship/" rel="nofollow - here
Having controlled the 1st quarter Amps let Pirates back into the game in the second before capitulating in the 3rd & 4th. Actually, that's a bit harsh, they never gave up but definitely came second. Having said that, it's not often the same referee overrules his assistant twice in one game when the assistant is on the spot for the decision and the referee is 20m+ away and on the wrong side to see.
That's the third time this season that Amps have had the assistant's award of try reversed by the same referee 'From A Distance", the bad taste in the mouth is almost as bad as a Covid-19 swab...
Disappointingly, post game imagery also indicates some foul play which is certainly more serious than Marler's crown jewels grab

Interesting take on the decisions about the two tries, Fat Albert. The radio commentator put it the other way around, that the ref consulted the assistant and then made his decision, which is surely the correct way to do it. I wasn't there, just saying how it came across on the radio.

I was there and the first disallowed try was definitely not scored. Robin Wedlake turned the Ampthill no11 show pony onto his back and he dropped the ball trying to twist and touch it down. Second disallowed try was the far side of the field so couldn’t judge, but the Ampthill players didn’t look surprised at the decision. Bumper crowd for the home side today apparently; certainly the pitchside beer van couldn’t cope. Very helpful set of volunteers and I met some friendly home supporters in the pub afterwards.

There is a lovely post from "old prop steve" on the Cornish Pirates rugby network forum:
"Apart from the match itself it was an interesting experience if like me you hadn't visited Ampthill before. You get to a modest but comfortable clubhouse, buy your ticket in a tent and then you have a pleasant five minute walk through a wood to finally reach the first team pitch. It is open on all four sides with a large steep grassy bank on one side which was well populated. Because there were no other games around I found myself among a lot of Bedford and Saracens supporters (obviously checking out life next season) and a few in Saints tops as well. Behind me were a group of noisy but good humoured Luton Town supporters who had come along for the afternoon. Not sure whether they had a clue what was going on but they seemed to be enjoying themselves anyway.
The Pirates team stayed on the pitch at half time and it all had a distinctly old school feel about it. Lovely!
The club seems to be thriving at all levels with 4-5 pitches and loads of families and youngsters. Shame there weren't a few of that 'wunch of bankers' from the RFU there too - they could have seen what a proper rugby club actually looks like!"
I wasn't there myself but I can picture the scene vividly. Thank you "old prop steve." My best buddy who is also exiled up here in North Yorkshire with me is a Luton Town supporter. I didn't know there were others...…...

Big difference, one club is going back to the Premiership. Bullying a semi-pro team with brute force isn't going to work in the Premiership. I'd want my team to show all round game ready to make the step up.
Wasn't going to say this but the one bit of creativity probably would've been disallowed in the Premiership, as it looks offside.
