Cornish Pirates 5-0 Caldy - Caldy could get 4 tries
Doncaster Knights 5-1 Chinnor - Chinnor to get a losing bonus point, but Knights win with ease
Hartpury 5-2 Coventry - a big game for the battle for 2nd and bonus points are critical, I think Hartpury may edge it
Ampthill 5-1 London Scottish - so hard to call this, as who knows the squads, but home advantage here
Ealing Trailfinders 2-5 Bedford Blues - heart over head! Blues can and have done it before and have the squad to turn over Ealing, but could also lose by 50 points if they don't turn up!
Nottingham 5-2 Cambridge - although a good opportunity for Cambridge to spring a surprise!

Cov's horrendous injury list grew larger during the Ampthill defeat.
It pains me to say it, but I would be relieved even with a 5 -1 result !!

The patched together side that played the second half against Ampthill look unlikely to gain a bonus point of any sort.  Is our pitch to blame for yet another injury-plagued season...?

Bought tickets to go earlier. The stands looked pretty full. There should be a lot of Blues fan coming to see Adamson get the all time club try record. Although it’d be better at Goldington Road.

We are a little light in the 2nd row with Frost and we have gone for Garside on the wing for his better defence than Worley. We have more Saints than usual on the bench with the injuries.

Bedford Blues starting XV:

15. Louis James, 14. Alfie Garside, 13. Lucas Titherington, 12. Michael Le Bourgeois, 11. Dean Adamson, 10. Will Maisey, 9. Alex Day (C); 1. Joey Conway, 2. Tommy Herman, 3. Oisin Heffernan, 4. Luke Frost, 5. Rory Ward, 6. Fyn Brown, 7. Joe Howard, 8. Fred Tuilagi

Bedford Blues Replacements:

16. James Fish, 17. Jamie Jack, 18. Beltus Nonleh, 19. Ed Prowse, 20. Archie Benson, 21. Jake Garside, 22. Matt Worley, 23. Toby Cousins

Unavailable for selection this week:

Alex Woolford, Jac Arthur, Cameron King, James Lennon, Joel Matavesi, Jamie Elliott, Pat Tapley

Cornish Pirates 5 v 0 Caldy - can’t see any other result.
Doncaster 5 v 0 Chinnor - Donny’s winning run to emphatically continue.
Hartpury 5 v 1 Coventry - I think the home side win this quite comfortably. Coventry’s injuries are starting to bite. Cov to get 4 tries.
Ampthill 5 v 2 London Scottish - This could be absolutely anything, expect it to be entertaining, but absolutely no idea who wins. Wouldn’t even rule out a draw.
Ealing 5 v 2 Bedford - I’m going with Ealing but Bedford are well capable of winning this and it wouldn’t shock me if they did. I think this is the last game this season where somebody has a fighting chance of turning Ealing over - taking into account Coventry’s injuries.
Nottingham 5 v 1 Cambridge - Even with Nottingham having big injury issues, I just don’t see Cambridge winning this away from home. A good game for Notts to get back on track.

Cov have a few backs returning from injury, but still very light in the pack (particularly in regard to the absences of Nairau, Nkwocha, Kvesic, Johnson, and Hinkley).

Coventry: Logan Trotter; Jake Henry, Oli Morris, Tommy Mathews, Jimmy Martin; Liam Richman, Josh Barton; Toby Trinder, Jordon Poole, Eliot Salt; Rhys Anstey, Mackenzie Graham; Chester Owen, Tom Ball, Senitiki Nayalo

Replacements: Suva Ma’asi, Ralph McEachran, Tye Raymont, Dan Green, Jack Bennett, Sam Maunder, Tom HitchHuckleberry, Will Lane

Must say I was surprised at how much ‘up the jumper’ Bedford used the other week at Donny.

Wasn’t at the game but we played the majority of the game with 14 men and a back down so suspect that had something to do with it.

Wasn’t criticising. They did what they had to do, but normal for Bedford is run run run. You missed a thoroughly entertaining game.

Decent fight back from the Cov side when an absolute drubbing looked on the cards.
Nearly evened up at the death when only a pass adjudged forward denied a further Cov try.
Two points is two more than I expected.

Blues win and fully deserved with that 2nd half.

Watched it on YouTube, fantastic 2nd half from the Blues, Ealing seemed to go off in the 2nd 40 and we took full advantage. We certainly seem to be a 2nd half team this season, credit to the fitness team for conditioning, Ealing looked like they were flagging, we looked much fresher.
Less said about the commentators on the live stream the better, but thank you for putting it on, much  appreciated.

Having swapped sides at half time to watch us run in the tries, even though Ealing had the wind with them, the sun was awkward. It looked like the Ealing player dropped the ball from 100m away. If only we hadn’t have lost a couple and we’d be pushing Ealing at the top.

Blues weren’t their expansive best but got the job done. It seems more of those profits from Trailfinders are required to beat semi-pro teams. Wink

One of the Ealing tries in the 2nd half was directly in front of me and amazingly the touch judge. The winger dropped the ball whilst trying to ground it one handed from about knee height. Still gave it though. Not sure what Ealings game plan was? A better scrum, much more powerful in the rucks and mauls, yet hardly ever did it? Peculiar

Blues Fans wanting to know why every away game cannot be shown.
Seems understanding of broadcast rights has eluded many Blues supporters.

38-14

That was amusing, but the Announcer using the same gag 4 or 5 times during the afternoon about floodlights bored me a bit I have to say. It’s my personal opinion, but it just felt a bit unnecessary.

Overall, I thought it was a scrappy, bitty game, not helped by quite a stiff breeze. There was a lot of loose play by both sides. Despite the score, Chinnor were very competitive and if they had taken one of the number of opportunities they created in the first 20 minutes and got in front then it could have been a different game. As it was, Donny were clinical when they had to be and took the 5 points.

Edit: I knew I should have gone with my gut instinct and backed Bedford to turn over Ealing!. That was a great result for Blues.

We so needed that. Massive relief to finally get a good win.

The Ealing winger 14, really didn’t fancy going to tackle Fred Tuilagi, managed to fall for the non-existent side step. Also looked a head on head contact but hard to pick up on these things live, although it looked high in the game.
