This is a thread, as the subject suggests, for any players or coaching staff who have been signed, re-signed, or have left before and/or during the 2019/20 season. One signing to kick it off, hooker David Nelson has been signed by Mowden Park. Darlington Mowden Park are delighted to announce the signing of front row forward David Nelson from Doncaster Knights. The hooker becomes Mowden’s 5th new signing of the summer, and will join up with the rest of the squad for pre-season training next month. Nelson brings Championship experience to the squad, having spent the last three season with Doncaster. The 24 year-old had previously spent a number of years with the Newcastle Falcons, making his Premiership debut against Exeter in November 2016. Nelson is already familiar with Mowden Park, after a short dual-registered stint at the club during his time at the Falcons. Darlington Mowden Park are delighted to announce the signing of Paul Jarvis from Doncaster Knights. Jarvis becomes DMP’s 6th new signing of the summer as preparations continue for the 2019/20 National One season. Jarvis brings a wealth of Championship experience to the squad, having made in excess of 120 appearance for the Knights. The versatile back, who can cover both full back and wing, has scored 34 tries in his 6 seasons in the Championship. I think he will bring some great qualities to the club, he is a bit like Marmite, personally I liked him and he loves to play fullback (pity he doesn't kick very much). A bit like Bruno Bravo who came to you from us, can turn things around very quickly from defence into attack. I wish him well. With Jordon Poole signing for Exeter Chiefs, Nelson will probably take his spot in the squad just as Dan Grange would seem to be back row cover for Matt Heaton's departure and Callum Irvine a signing which fits with Garry Law's retirement from playing.
At the moment, we have great depth at the wing and fullback position, which is a better position than last season where those positions were severely depleted because of injuries sustained by players during the off- and pre-season. |

Bit of a statement that! well 2 statements - any facts to back it up??? In not sure InTouch has the details. I understood we had players on loan from Exeter and Northampton as well as Ealing, Coventry, Jersey, London Scottish and Doncaster. No-one from London Irish or Pirates as far as I can tell I make it 50 players were used during the season, 20 backs, 30 forwards. No idea how that compares to anyone else but yes, lots of injuries.

Rabbie quite right no regulations contravened. Question is really what kind of club are they choosing to be? Are they just a provider of game time for failed players at a higher level or are they seeking to achieve some kind of club identity. I note they failed to fulfill a large amount of their 2nd team Zoo league fixtures so it would appear that local players are voting with their feet and going elsewhere. Questions always is what happens to the club when the reason to play for them ie money disappears? |

To clarify slightly more, he was _a_ coach in that period, the backs coach. All three coaches were released by the club when Rowland Winter was brought in, and brought his team of coaches in, and at that point a stage of stagnation ended. |

Man Utd's issues have been well documented and, in my opinion, wanderer makes an unrelistic comparison. What is a fact is that any success a Club has in Nat 1. on the field this season, will be directly related to and dependent on the quality of the players available to the Club. Being realistic, I would expect that the 4 Nat 1. Clubs with the biggest rugby budgets will be the Clubs that finish in the top 4. ------------- All Knwoing All Seeing |

Sid. Nothing unrealistic about it. I've been to clubs where there were quality players but not the same standard of coaching. Look what Cloughie did at Forest & Derby. He had a few good players but made two great teams. Building a quality team is much harder than acquiring players Coaches don't always seem to get the credit they deserve. |

I think numbers are Loan players used 56. one behind Moseley However when you add the 27 EAPs to that total Chinnor's use of loan/EAP players gets to 83 players over 30 game season! Interesting that "one club" Stortford use of EAPS from Saracens were 48 times last year. Not so much of the one club!

Intouch I assume you are saying 83 'times' over the 30 game season not 83 players? If I am correct then that's less than 3 a game over the season which quite frankly is nothing in N1 when you have teams playing 6-8 a game from their parent clubs! I think you've just argued against yourself!  |

A very good signing. I am frankly amazed that Laurence hasn't ended up back at a Championship club. He has real pace and talent. A lot of folks speculated he might end up back in Penzance after the Craig Willis debacle. |

Clough's teams were full of international players. You again use a Football comparison which I again believe is unrealistic because of the vastly differing levels of finance involved. A quality Nat 1. team will be based on acquiring quality players and they now tend to cost the Club more than they used to. Club Coaches have a huge part to play and as you say, they deserve credit but, in my opinion, if you took any of today's International Coaches and put them in charge of a Nat 1 Club that has a lower half Nat 1 rugby budget, that is probably where the Club would finish the season. ------------- All Knwoing All Seeing |

Budgets talk. Normally the bigger budgets finish at/near the top whilst those that don't have them tend to struggle. It is a 30 game season, depth of squads has a big bearing - another factor of a bigger budget ------------- RAID ON |

However, Lach has confirmed 15 new signings, four of those having already featured for the club last term. Forwards Cam Holenstein and Adam Batt who both arrived from Championship club Jersey in the second half of last season, have signed permanently for the 2019/20 campaign. They will be joined by former team-mate, ex-Wasps and Loughborough University centre George Eastwell who comes to College Meadow after three years in the Championship with the Islanders. Two players who played in the club's Extra 1st XV after Christmas, St Mary’s Academy and ex-London Irish hooker Charlie Burman, and former Leicester and Jersey fly-half Oliver Bryant, who starred in the Kent Cup final victory over Sidcup at the beginning of May, have also penned permanent deals. Lach has strengthened his front row options with the signings of three props - Luke Boon, who won two BUCS titles with Hartpury and was in their Championship squad last term, Cornish Pirates loosehead Tom Concu and Bath University and London Irish prop Austin Hay who can play on either side of the scrum. Experienced hooker Jared Saunders joins from London Scottish having also made 23 appearances in the Premiership for Saracens. Ex-Edinburgh, Ospreys, Rotherham Titans and Rovigo lock Perry Parker (pictured) arrives at the club having spent last season playing in France with Stade Dijonnais, while Lach has also recruited experienced back rowers Ed Milne from relegated Championship club Richmond, and New Zealander Leigh Thompson who played last season for Nuneaton in Midlands League One having previously had a successful career in New Zealand and Spain with North Shore and VRAC respectively. The club continue to benefit from their strong links with Exeter University with the arrival of exciting full-back/winger Saladin Bell and Exeter Chiefs Academy fly-half Ted Landry, while Nottingham's Championship winger Alex Goble, a product of Eastbourne College and a former England Counties representative, completes the list of new signings. “I always try to get as much of my business completed as early as possible in the summer so we know exactly where we are at going into pre-season,” said Lach, “and I’m delighted with the quality of the signings we have made, which is the right blend of youth and experience. “Obviously we were disappointed to miss out on the Nat One title but to finish second in only our second season in National One was a tremendous achievement by everyone involved and undoubtedly exceeded all our expectations before the start of the campaign. “We achieved this with the vast majority of the squad that got us out of National Two three seasons ago. OE's new loosehead prop Tom Concu played at Caldy for a couple of seasons. Pleased to see that they have also recruited a Kiwi who played for my old club in Auckland. Certainly was Penda and Caldy were so happy that he decided to make the step up to the National Leagues via Caldy on his way to bigger and better things. Sandbach RFC have generated so many talented players over the years ................they deserve massive praise for their support to aspiring young players. When Concs arrived at Caldy it took him no time at all to make the step up as has been the case with all the other very good players who have found their way to Caldy via Sandbach. Sale FC . . have signed a big no 8 from Bedford . .. but I think we will see a closer tie with Sale this season. OE's looking very strong as do Chinnor and RP . . yet again Nat 1 will be the most entertaining league as they all push for the promised land of the Championship!!!!! | Some serious signings in a considerable number of Nat 1 teams - OE's, Rosslyn Park, Chinnor , Sale FC and Moseley. Must be some big budgets on show!. I can't think that a lot the players who have signed for these sides would go straight from full-time to part-time. |

Quite a few do, as we know from experience at Cov when at this level. Quite often those who are not, ahem, in the first flush of youth drop out of the full-time rat-race to start up or develop businesses or even coaching careers. Makes a deal of sense too. ------------- Our Club |
