Here are my guesses for this week. It does not get any easier in this competitive league that’s for sure. Could this be the week that the Blues come good – it would not surprise me?

Exmouth v Drybrook   HW  (Exe to win this at home)
Ivybridge
v Camborne HW  (Ivy to bounce back after last weeks set back at Brix)
Launceston v Brixham  AW  (Could be tight but Brix have at last come good)
Maids
v Bracknell  HW  (Maids should win this one)
Okehampton v WSM  AW  (Okes are strong at home and will take some beating)
Blues v Barnstaple  AW  (could go either way but will stay loyal to Barum)

You saw what i did there FP? WinkLOL

I do sound slightly depleted but much credit to the Blues, they have been very competitive in every game so far this season and with a bit of luck here and there, better execution at critical points in the match and the experience they have gained from a young squad across the park and i do remain confident the W's will start coming especially as we see more of the boys from last seasons formidable squad start to return!

This week though, Barum are a very good team and after last weeks disappointing defeat to a WSM team i felt were there for the taking and seeing the line ups announced last night i think Barum take 5pts from this one.

This is the week indeed....! That's a great confidence builder for Blues. Keeps this league competitive throughout... and on the team Captain's 200th Cap for the club.

Poor old Camborne robbed of victory again according to their scribe. Surely their luck will change at some point?!

Very well done to the Blues. Ref my prediction post earlier in the week it did not surprise my one bit. There are no outstanding teams in the league this season and anyone could beat anyone else on their day. Now that the Blues have that confidence win under their belt I cannot see any reason why they should now start to win more games and climb up the league.
As for Barum they have been struggling for a few weeks now after some good early season form but hopefully they can stay in the top half of the table at least.

The way I read it, Ill discipline, a missed conversion & a high tackle were the reasons for Camborne losing, so if their players keep their mouths shut, get a kicker & players make legitimate tackles they'd win. Ouch
It'll be interesting to see what Ivybridges' take on it is. Wink

Well well well, with many alluding to Newburys chances of creating an upset only Maidsboy was the one to put his head above the parapet and actually predicted it Clap. Top scorers only had 2 this week, 6 of those the Exmouth game will be replayed in the New Year. With SurreyBens massive 2 it takes him into a clear lead at the top of the table LOL. Can you do a prediction for next weeks' fixture to save me trawling through the previous predictions other than that there may be a change of heart for some depending on teams more recent form. The league look like this

Surrey Ben                    49

Barum man                   48

I was very impressed with Newbury when they came to Braywick a few weeks ago, and felt they had the ability to hurt Barnstaple, especially infront of a large and vocal home crowd. Obviously very pleased that they’ve helped us trim Barum’s lead now, to just 4 points.

Our other Berkshire friends, Bracknell were also impressive, and pushed us hard in a tough game.

Brixham for me, this Saturday.

.

Haha I am sure any team could hurt Barum this season 'Maids'. An ideal season for me would be for Barum to finish 3rd although that could be difficult for sure (it would be nice to actually win the league for the first time but promotion would be a nightmare for a team like Barum,  although it would be good to see some really good rugby again at Pottington Road).

I’m pretty sure it’s possible to decline promotion even if you win the league. It used to be and I’m sure that’s still the case. After all, sides that go up to N2S don’t often hang around there too long!

I did not know that TJOS - the players and  the committee would probably like promotion but I have yet to meet any fans that would Unhappy having said that there would be no doubt that Barum or any other team would take promotion if they gained it
You are right about promoted teams not staying up long as the current N2S table shows! We managed to stay up for a couple of seasons but that was only because of the London Welsh thing.
Barum managed to stay afloat financially after that but lots of teams dont. Unless you have a large catchment area and/or are willing to spend big money it is very difficult to stay up.

What about teams in a league above who may have suffered a whole season of being bashed and destroyed on the pitch and are struggling with the travelling costs and other financial commitments of staying there and really NEED to drop down to recover and lick their wounds?

If they demand to come down or face potential financial oblivion if they're forced to stay up because a team declines to come up, what then?

If the winners decline promotion, the runners-up are promoted. If they decline too the third-placed team go up, and so on. Eventually someone will be “ambitious” enough to go up.

At least, that’s how it used to be although I can’t think of a single case where promotion has actually been declined.

This weekend I'll plump for Brixham, although it may well be a very close game.

As for the pros & cons of promotion. With the ongoing saga of potential league reorganisation who knows what the leagues will look like in September.

could be am interesting scenario at Exmouth this weekend!! from the league regulations?

4.3 Where a ground is pronounced unfit or is unavailable for play and the scheduled match is

the first of the two games in the season between the Clubs the venue (shall where time

allows and provided the reverse venue is not being utilised for another match in the

Leagues) be reversed if the opposition’s pitch is fit and available for play. The Admin Office

must be advised prior to kick off. The home Club shall be the Club upon whose pitch the

game is played.

4.4 Where a match is postponed due to weather at the same venue for a second time the SW

Committee may order the game to be played on the third attempt at a different ground.to be

agreed or specified by the SW Committee. This may be at neutral venue or at the

opposition’s ground.

I think this would be keenly contested by Exmouth as the first game was cancelled because Brixham refused to play when the home side and the ref were happy for the game to go ahead.

Brixham made no secret of the fact that they had turned up with a must weakened side.

Obviously going for an Exmouth win.

Thanks as ever FP.

Looks like Exmouth v Brixham went to uncontested scrums quite early yesterday? Presume that meant Brix had to play with 14 men, in which case it’s a very impressive victory.
