Cornish Pirates v Hartpury College - 2.30pm
Yorkshire Carnegie v Doncaster - 3pm

Thursday 26th December (Boxing Day)
Bedford v Ampthill - 3pm

Predictions:

Jersey 4 v 1 London Scottish - Jersey at home just too strong but close
Ealing 4 v 1 Newcastle - more in hope than expectation I must admit but if the best Ealing turns up then it could happen. wouldn't shock me if Falcons lost this.
Coventry 1 v 4 Nottingham - most people will go for Cov but just got a feeling.....
Leeds 0 v 5 Doncaster - changed after seeing Donny's team... should have far too much class for Leeds.
Cornish Pirates 5 v Hartpury 0 - not all one way but Pirates ought to win comfortably enough.
Bedford 1 v Ampthill 4 - I think Amps will make it 3 in a row v Bedford this season!!.

Yes Donnyfan; Sky dictating stoopid times again. (However, according to the club's website it's a 17:15 ko. Whichever is correct I shall get there considerably earlier in an effort to avoid two trips in darkness).

Jersey 4 v 1
Ealing 1 v 4 Newcastle .
Coventry 4 v 1 Nottingham
Leeds 1 v 4 Doncaster
Cornish Pirates 5 v Hartpury 0
Bedford 4 v Ampthill 1

Jersey 5 v 1 London Scottish - Here's hoping that Scottish have an easier trip to Jersey than last year, but I think that the islanders will carve them up as the Scottish struggles in the league continue.
Ealing 5 v 1 Newcastle - I couldn't be more excited for this game. One part of me says that I'm being a homer with this prediction, but another part says that Ealing has won its last two home matches by a combined 136-36. Selection will be key, hope they start the massively in-form Durutalo.
Coventry 4 v 1 Nottingham - Coventry were better than the scoreline reflected last week, but Nottingham were excellent as well. I'll give the home team the benefit of the doubt.
Leeds 0 v 5 Doncaster - Battle of Yorkshire. My understanding is that Leeds suffered a grisly injury in the past game, and that just reminds me of all of the discussion around safety prior to the season. I don't have enough info to comment further, but a concern. I think Leeds is just too weak to compete.
Cornish Pirates 1 v Hartpury 4 - Hartpury on form, and Pirates going through one of their mini-swoons after starting hot.
Bedford 1 v Ampthill 4 - Agree, Ampthill to go back-to-back.

Jersey 5-0 Scottish - I expect a lot of changes in the starting 15 and if the weather allows some fast running rugby from both sides and Jersey to win by 5 tries to 2.

Ealing 3-3 Newcastle - Although 5-2 either way more likely. The two best forward packs I've seen this season and its likely to go down to the wire with perhaps just a missed kick deciding it..

Coventry 4 v 1 Nottingham - Two well matched sides but at home in front of a big crowd I fancy Cov to edge it by a handful of points.

Leeds 4-1Donny - If Yorkies are going to have any chance of staying up they need to win this one.

Pirates 4-1 Hartpury Could be really close if Hartpury borrow well this week.

Bedford 5-2 Ampthill  A huge crowd and probably the best game to watch this weekend.

Have a great Christmas - keep safe no injuries please.

So few league matches have been played, if Yorkshire have an injection of talent it wouldn't be difficult for them to get away from the bottom. I think they would probably looking at demotion from League One, had they taken their rightful place there.
It will be interesting to see what happens.

Jersey 5 v 2 LS
A few points in this one but Reds to take it. Beers on the way back for Scots but otherwise no reward

Ealing 1 v 5 Newcastle
No Xmas cheer for Ealing, tight at first but Falcons to romp home

Coventry 5 v 1 Nottingham
Cov too much pace at home. Notts seem neither here nor there

Leeds 4 v 1 Doncaster
Absolute must-win for rejuvenated Carnegie. Four points here will make for a very jittery lunch and an early night for Bedford on the 25th

Cornish Pirates 2 v Hartpury 5
An upset waiting to happen., Pury dismissed Donny last week with nothing to play for, so will be up for it

Bedford 1 v Ampthill 4
Amps looking to win last 4 from 4 against Blues. Huge pressure on Bedford to get something from it.

Jersey 5 v 0 LS ... Jersey will be up for this and LS have not been firing in the league as they have in the Cup. However, they are capable of causing an upset and will get chances. Could be a good game, but have to back my team.
Ealing 1 v 4 Newcastle ... Battle royal up front for this one. Interestingly, speaking to the Reds players following a first half mauling at Ealing, they said that ET really ran out of puff and another 10 minutes and they really thought that they would have had them. Play like that and I can see Falcons running in some points late on. Should be a belter though.

Coventry 4 v 1 Nottingham ... Good match up this one, but have to give it to Cov for home advantage. Nottingham, to keep them honest and will be in it right to the final whistle.

Leeds 0 v 5 Doncaster ... Not a hope. Donny to have a bonny Christmas.

Cornish Pirates 5 v Hartpury 0 ... This will be tight for an hour or so, but I fancy Pirates to run in 2 or 3 late tries. Hartpury will make them, work for it though, they do defend well.

Bedford 4 v Ampthill 1 ... Bedford to get revenge for the defeats so far in the biggest gate of the season. Crackling atmosphere, wish I could be there for this one.

Good luck everyone, please stay safe and have a wonderful festive time with lots of spirit [<:o)]

My first boozy trip up BPA this year and already dreading having to buy a drink in the ground!

No drinks for me until I get back home though.

I messaged them at the start of November with the polite suggestion that a canopy would be a 'great asset'.  I'm guessing by the lack of a reply (or canopy) that they don't necessarily agree... Cry

Yes, Chris Wearmouth may well have clarified it's a 5:30 ko, but it's still showing as a 5:15 KO on the club website fixture list.

Given the amount of comment generated by a 15-minute discrepancy, maybe he's worried that some might find life a bit lacking in meaning if the issue was definitively settled?!

Leeds 0 - 5 Doncaster
Bedford 4 - 1 Ampthill

Forecast tomorrow for Ealing is 11 degrees with a 90% chance of rain and 15 - 25 mph winds. I would postulate that that weather will favor Newcastle, as Ealing has really shined in good weather at home such as against Bedford or Coventry, but has struggled more in windy, rainy weather such as the home league match to Coventry.

Newcastle had trouble putting Bedford away in terrible conditions, but I think that the artificial pitch might negate some of the disadvantage that they had at Goldington road. Even more disappointed with what this weather will do to crowds in Ealing - lots of promotion gone on locally to get people out, and Ealing have put on a free carnival for the kids.

Okay, so here is Ealing's lineup: The good here is the back row. Reid, Durutalo, Smid give a great balance of defense, ball carrying skills, and push. In particular Durutalo's 7's experience really shows in the offloading confidence he has. I also like the front row of Trenier, Walker, Els. I think that  those three give the best scrummaging front row on offer as Cornish is speedier, but not as stout.

The bad - Dave Mckern had a man of the match performance last week, but I'd prefer the experience and steadying influence of Sam Dickinson on the field. If things start to go pearshaped, he can keep the lads from falling to bits.

The ugly - The backs in general. Shingler has had real accuracy issues in terms of conversions compared to Willis, and Hampson's dropped score last week was ridiculous. Every time Jordan Burns comes on, he does nothing but score tries for fun. Try of the week two weeks in a row. Add to that picking David Johnston over Elijah Niko or Lewis Jones just doesn't wash for me.

15 Tommy Bell
14 JCR
13 David Johnston
12 Harry Sloan
11 Reon Joseph
10 Steven Shingler
9 Craig Hampson
1 Jordan Ells
2 Alun Walker
3 Craig Trenier
4 Dave McKern
5 Harry Casson
6 Jordy Reid
7 Andrew Durutalo
8 Rayn Smid

Bench - Matt Cornish, Will Davis, Elliot Millar Mills, Sam Dickinson, Shane Buckley, Jordan Burns, Craig Willis, Kieran Murphy

I’ve got huge concerns with this selection. Ealing have leaked tries all season through the 13 channel and the empty shirt is back ‘filling’ it. I really hope some serious defensive work has been done on the training park.

I hate to say that I agree. I don't relish Sinoti Sinoti matched up against Reon Joseph, I fear he'll run the poor lad over.

This is the real test for Ealing Trailfinders as to where they sit in the grand scheme of things. Home advantage and a strong selection and a very robust bench.

I would have liked to see Kieran Murphy over Andrew Duratalo. Also Burns and Willis to start but I think they will be on pretty quick.

We need to drain Floods resolve, run at him relentlessly, Jordy Reid , Rayn Smid, Duratalo..... followed by a finishing desert helping of Murphy.

I honestly believe we can beat the Falcons .

I hate to say that I agree. I don't relish Sinoti Sinoti matched up against Reon Joseph, I fear he'll run the poor lad over.

I was just thinking that - how the hell did they get relegated with a squad like that?
I think the Trailfinders and Falcons packs are both really strong and should win their own ball in set play. Rodney Ah You would have been a big plus for Falcons if he was available and I would have started with Joel Hodgson at 10. Dave McKern could be the key asset for Trailfinders as he can play like an extra flanker and really takes the pressure off Durutalo, Reid & Smid - his fitness this season has been extraordinary. Ealing need to defend well in midfield, avoid yellow cards and take the Falcons on - should be a brilliant match.

We need to drain Floods resolve, run at him relentlessly, Jordy Reid , Rayn Smid, Duratalo..... followed by a finishing desert helping of Murphy.

I honestly believe we can beat the Falcons .

I understand the desire to see Murphy over Durutalo, as he is a real bulldozer of a player with great hands. In this case, I prefer to see Durutalo for his better offloading skills and slightly higher agility, but these two have been battling for the first team shirty all year, and it really is nearly a toss up. I completely agree on preferring Burns and Willis.

I too believe that Ealing can win this. A very tough match, but they'll be massively up for it.

ClapClapClap. that is phenomenal support. I know Bedford have a great following and it is a derby but its not like Blues are setting the league alight this season. puts a lot of other  championship clubs to shame.

I would expect 5000,similar to the women's International, but it will still be a great atmosphere. Financially, having Ampthill in our division is a great bonus, hope the game and result is equally positive.

That's the entire population of Bedfordshire isn't it?
Seriously though, there are going to be a lot of restricted views if so. It always seems a bit unrealistic to call the capacity of a ground with a relatively small stand and mainly flat standing areas that high.
Not a criticism; just an observation based on my own standing experiences at GR.
Good luck if you can do it though!

News from the Coventry ticket office today is that the grandstand at the BPA is effectively sold out with pairs or groups of seats only available in the end blocks.

That’s 2,800 seated under cover, as well as however many will be lining the fences in the other three sides.

Same goes for Cov who have great support - if they win games. If either club had Ealing's financial backing you would fill St James Park for a really big match next spring - imagine playoff semis involving Falcons, Cov & Bedford & Ealing (or Jersey please) with competitive teams! Who wouldn't want to see that on Sky?

Regarding crowd sizes the Pirates can muster decent crowds if the fixture is attractive  ie we had a 6000 sell out  against Quins, 6900 against Saints, 7500 v Plymouth Albion EDF semi-final, over 6000 against Munsster A B & final. None of those at the Mennaye, unfortunately Elf and Safety have restricted us to 3000 which was the  total for a friendly against Exeter Chiefs last year. I think we would fill the ground IF we had a home semi or final against the Falcons.

I think the Bedford sell out will be 5,000 rather than 6,000. That will be in line with the sell out gate for the England Women's international a few weeks ago.

Also I did find the Coventry game to record on Sky. Not on the TV but via the Sky+ app - on Sky Sport Mix.

Stirring stuff. Falcons score from interception, then brilliant solo try by No14 from halfway. Otherwise all Ealing but can’t cross the line yet.

Very painful to leak that last try - the ball squirted all over the place, but Ealing just failed to fall on it. Falcons showed much more poise in the second half, quit conceding so many penalties, and kept the ball in hand more. I still feel like Ealing were  the better attacking side, but a couple of soft scores  cost them the match in the end. As others have said...title procession now. :(  I'd guestimate the gate at about 2000.

Tough game for both sides today at St Peter.  Really horrible conditions with a first half dominance from Jersey not translated into points which became an issue in the second half when the weather turned and the wind and rain was against Jersey.  London Scottish defence was immense today and locked out the Jersey attack.  By capitalising on the conditions in the second half, Scottish managed to turn the game around for a well deserved win.  No complaints with the result.  Jersey will learn and no doubt push on.  Congratulations to both sides for putting on a really entertaining game in such atrocious conditions.  Mylo will be having a nightmare about the state of his pitch in the morning!!

The Jersey pitch isn't being used for several weeks, I'm sure it'll be fine. Otherwise agree with the above, even if the entertainment was largely a result of it being close and all results possible in the last minute. Weather was foul for both sides and seemed to be mostly across the pitch (or so I thought from my sheltered spot beneath the north-facing clubhouse)

No one could say the best team didn’t win but (!!!cliche warning!!!) what a great advert for Championship rugby! As many suspected, including me, it all came down to best defence and game management and it was unquestionably Newcastle’s day. Nonetheless, Ealing should be holding their heads very high, they were the better team for much of the match.

Ealing acquitted themselves well today but were the masters of their own downfall with some fatal mistakes. Haven't seen the replays yet but I think 13 may have been at the heart of two of the tries.

Feared the worst after the first two scrums resulted in penalties against but we got parity by the end. Ealing had more of the ball and the attacking play but Newcastle's rush defence was superior.

Unfortunately this season is now a procession which is no good for anyone, including Newcastle.

Over 3100 present.

Lots of people started the match indoors watching it on TV, but then came outside after about 15 minutes. Plus a lot of people braved the gentle but persistent rain to stand on the other side of the pitch.

I thought we announced 6000 for the England U20 game last season which was a sell out.

4-1 would have both felt better, and at least kept the table somewhat close. That final try was very disappointing. I watched my recording this morning, and my frustration is, having seen this game I feel like Ealing could win that match at least 5 out of 10 times if they replayed it, but get no similar shot for a year.

To the surprise of no one who follows Ealing David Johnston shared fault in both of the gift tries in the first half. On the first, Shingler takes the majority of the blame for a poor pass, but Johnston didn't come to the ball either. On the second, he blatantly misses a tackle that would have stopped the Radawan break just outside the 22, and blows it so badly that he manages to take out Reon Joseph as well - Miles Harrison announcing even called this out as extremely poor play, so not my bias. I continue to be amazed and disappointed that he sees the pitch. I can only guess that he is a training ground warrior.

There is the problem there is no rival in this league. They are the clear favourites and every other team including Ealing are way off.

It would take another one, two, maybe three million pounds per season to put out a team to beat the Falcons.
