I have just been reading the 22nd March issue 33 of the excellent 'Park News' . Who ever puts that together deserves a knighthood, what an informative well written magazine that is. Top class.

Anyway that was in the way of a preamble to explain that those predictors who are pencilling in a Caldy win away against Rosslyn Park should read Park News and then reconsider. Two weeks out and Park have the Caldy game down as THE BIG ONE! and are exhorting most of London to be there on the grounds that 'Caldy take a very large contingent of very noisy supporters to all their recent matches'....

FFS there's only likely to be six of us !....although to be fair one of us has an uncomfortably loud voice, another never shuts up, a couple are noisy eaters and one snores on the way home and sometimes during the game...........I understand it is a health condition caused by acid reflux which is exacerbated by too much alcohol ...........it gets worse on a Saturday and is not going to improve until early May.

I think the excellent and informative Park News may have conflated 'Caldy's large and voiciferous away support' with the coincidence of 200 Caldy Minis and parents, on their Yorkshire Tour, turning up to watch the recent away match against Leeds Tykes. Their youthful addition to the normal band of geriatrics that follow the Ravers was very welcome but probably had little influence on matters happening on the pitch. By and large the minis were preoccupied, rolling each other around the pitch inside some abandoned tractor tires, and by kick off time their parents were generally all on the way towards serious acid reflux.

BE,
Good luck on Saturday.
In our last season in Nat 1. we took 3. committee/spectators to our away match at Plymouth. They had 1600 watching.
We scared them to death!

Ha ha.......it was ever thus! Thanks for your support Sid.

We know we are 2nd favourites in this one but if the weather holds we will have a good day out in the Capital and a little sleep on the train home..........if we catch it.

Our travel co ordinator and Caldy President, Graham Armitage is in complete charge of logistics. It is the last train journey of the season and Graham will be getting his appraisal on the way home......... So far we have only lost one player en route to a game (At Crewe station) and Graham himself has generally caught the right train on the way home.

Nothing guaranteed but that is a big improvement on his performances in our previous seasons in National 1 so he has a fair shot of keeping the job for another year.

I certainly will. The logistics are a bit difficult. The Red side of Liverpool and the Blue side of Manchester are travelling down the M6 as well because I am told they have a semi final at Wembley. Graham is working out the route now. I suspect we may arrive by the morning of Easter Sunday.

Gary Devaney the Caldy Chairman did offer up Graham's services to Anfield to assist with the co-ordination of the players' travel arrangements.............Jurgen was appreciative of the gesture but he regretfully declined because Liverpool like to travel and arrive with a full squad.

Gives us some hope front 5 but although on paper Blackheath's win last week increased the gap between Caldy and Rosslyn Park in truth it probably gives Caldy a harder job at the Rock on Saturday. Very good sides like Rosslyn Park may have a hiccup along the way but it is difficult to see them getting caught out twice in a row especially at their home ground with 'a massive support' and on plastic.

Everyone loves an underdog story so Front 5 please do tell us what happened between DMP v Rosslyn Park 20 years ago. I would love to travel to the Rock with some hope and a warm feeling......(age related incontinence generally provides the warm feeling but our small (6 in number with Graham Armitage being the smallest) band of travelling supporters do like to travel hopefully)

What were the respective league standings/what competition was the match in and what was the score?

2 mins on google - 1999-2000 Tetley Bitter Cup 4th round - DMP 23 - RP 11. Attendance '2000+'

DMP were then in North East 1 (as was - now North 1 East) - level 6. Park were in National 1 (level 3 as now).

DMP went out away at Quins 29-8 in the next round.

Wow.......just bonkers..........(probably why DMP felt that they just had to move to a 26,000 all seater stadium.) That will be a talking point this week and something to cling on to during the journey down to the Rock......of course there are some buts....2,000 home supporters and the game was probably not on plastic.......mud can be a leveller and there is unlikely to be any mud at the Rock.

Looks like the 6 of us will need to be doing more shouting than drinking ........happy to sacrifice a few pints if it helps the lads

It is my first visit to the Rock...any tips or warnings from knowledgeable posters?

Kingsheathlad.........I hope that the food at Rosslyn Park is better than 'Pot Noodle'......during our away days we like to visit proper rugby clubs and eat proper food........I missed out on Taunton which I was told was the best food in National 1.....

I am looking forward to a great day out at one of England's most iconic clubs. I of course know Oliver Reed is long gone but is Dwayne Johnson likely to be there?

I've gone early because its a big week!

So onto week 25, in what one way or another is massive for some clubs!

Quick recap of as it was last weekend.

Stand out result has to be Blackheath’s home win.Taking nothing at all away from that, I wonder did Power had his eye on this week with some of his selections. You leave your skipper on the bench till half time, being one that stood out for me, but thats over and gone and Blackheath have given themselves a chance now of avoiding the drop, they might be £10k lighter in the kitty but they got 5 and Park, to be honest were grateful to come away with 2 points.

I said many weeks ago, that nobody has ever gone up from National one with more that 6 lost games, Park sit on that number now! I also think the magic number at the bottom will be 65 this season, get that or above Id say you are safe!

Couple of other bits of note from last weekend. Plymouth travelled with 18 for the 3rd time this season, that is so so wrong in so many ways for a club at National 1 level, but fair play they picked up a bonus point at big spenders Cambridge, which could be massive.Their cup final is this Saturday for sure.

Nathan Taylor joined the hooker try feast this year with 4, but missed out on player of the weeks, how has that happened?  but ended Rams season, to repay the derailing of Cindy at Rams in the first half of the fixtures. The question also asked is, the top two try scorers in National 1 are hookers, does anybody practice on how to defend a driving line out? Bring back Codling!

Stortford had a good win on the road, but they have to back that up and have a massive game this week in the route to freedom. Lastly, those Ravers carry on, not too sure if much contact was involved in the game against Taunton, but they have proved time and time again they can score. Wonder if Kevin Keegan is involved in their attack (for those too young look it up) you score 4 we will score 5!

So the fixture gods have given us this:

Bishop's Stortford 5-2 Blackheath: Look this is a must win for both sides.

Stortford had a great result at inform Moseley last week, Club upset the applecart and bank balance with a home win v Park. This will be a different game. Stortford can play for sure and if the weather is dry and they are at home, just like they beat Park a few weeks ago, I do fancy them.

Leeds Tykes 4-2 Cambridge: This I fancy as an upset. Leeds had a dreadful first 20 minutes last week and it was game over. They did come away with a bonus but at home, in what is a game they must get points out of I think they will just get over the line. Cambridge nearly came unstuck at DMP a couple of weeks ago and I just think the need to know they have  to keep churning out 5 each week to just keep on the coat tails of those above and making no progress in the league position, might just get too much. It’s a lot different if you are top or 2nd hunting down top spot, but to keep in their position and not making a dent on those above and games running down, it  becomes very hard.

Plymouth Albion 5-1 Tonbridge Juddians : Albi’s cup final, no question its 5 points or a very good chance they could be going to Redruth and Barnstaple next year with a 15k empty stadium at home. Look TJ’s were unlucky at DMP, thats for sure, but they are already looking at the local sides in Nat 2 next year. It’s now or never for Albi and only 5 points will do. It does not matter if TJ’s pick up 1 or 2 as they are gone, but for Alibi its maximum or a trip down the A30 next year very simple!

Rams 5-1 Birmingham Moseley : Yet again Rams fall off the pace, they have 2 or 3 great wins but cannot back it up. What people do forget is this is only their 2nd year in National 1 and the time they have been in the league they have batted well above their weight, that is not a slight, they have been outstanding, but Nat 1 in grind and you have to churn out wins and performances week in week out, as anybody can beat anybody on the day. A home win yes as they are out of the race and can now relax and just play with no weight around the result.

Rosslyn Park 5-2 Caldy : Where to start? Heart says Id love Caldy to win this, if nothing more than to say you can spend as much as you like, you can have players on loan coming in and out each week at a drop of the hat, but it cannot buy you success. But my head does say the amount of ammo the city slickers have and being on the plastic, with the Kings road bars shut and redirected to boost the “massive home support” at The Rock they win it.

However I would so so love to be wrong.

So I think a couple of things in this game will define the final league. 1) how many points Caldy can get out the game 1-2-3-4 or 5. Even if Caldy lose but come away with 2 points its not over, because they have won more games and that may well be key 2) a 5-0 to Park might signal the end to this brave brave quest  3) If Caldy were to win (and I love an underdog) that might well spell the end to Parks pop at going up.

For sure Power won’t be leaving his best players on the bench this week as that came back to bite him on the backside last week and a very big mistake. I’d love to know who wins the Cokanasigna battle with Ldn Irish this week, or if he is Esher bound to help them out, because that is a joke week in week out, who plays 9 for Park and what Park have from Irish at tight head. All these will make a massive difference to the final score I’d say, but what do I know?

As for Caldy, they will travel on the day, turn up and just play, although Nicky Royal will be a handful on the plastic and if Big Truck and JJ can get up a head of steam, they will be a handful as well, but as Big E says win or lose ….good luck to both, I hope my heart is correct Caldy in the Champ, fair play!!

Sale 5-1 Cinderford : This is Sales chance, they know their is only one side going to pick up 5 in London and  if they come away with the max, come Saturday night having had their weekend off they are really in the mix. The other thing to note in all this, if Ealing or Donnie win their appeal against the RFU/Prem Rugby/ CVC  or whoever is pulling the strings for the closed club these days, there is good chance 2 will go up. So every point will count.

Cindy’s season is over, they targeted last weeks game for sure and they will target the last game of the season at home as well, but for the boys from the forest its been a great season and all credit to Paul Morris with the smallest budget in the league along with Caldy they have also batted well above their weight

Taunton 5-2 Chinnor : Game of 7s, This could be 65-64. Taunton will throw the ball about for the home crowd. Chinnor’s D and front 5 both look as if they are on roller skates at times, but with the sun out and both sides with nothing to play for this will I would suggest be an open game of rugby. Both as safe and both will go out and enjoy the rest of the season

As always, all said in jest. Big E enjoy your day in the smoke with The Ravers!

As usual a very accurate and informative preview Scrumtime. Didn't know that Rosslyn Park left their big hitters on the bench last week ......explains a lot.

I know the Ravers will give it a real go but the odds are very much in Rosslyn Park's favour, after last week's shock result for RP against Blackheath there will be a fired up home squad to play Caldy for sure.

A massive home crowd and the plastic pitch all favour Park's speedy Harlem Globetrotters .....perhaps there will be a deluge to limit the crowd and level thinks up a bit  ...........whatever the score I am sure it will be a great day out at the Rock.

Looking forward to seeing the famous 'advertising board'.

Which one there’s 2. Big brother Arthur or Hugo. Hugo was tipped to be the next Dallagio at Wasps but unfortunately never made the break from the academy and has been at RP since. Arthur was full time pro at Ealing playing in the Champ before joining RP. IMO both would walk into any team in this division although may be interesting at Taunton but think Hugo brings more than Sam Prior.

Rosslyn Park were outstanding when they won at Paton Field last November both tactically and physically. I don't know whether Hugo Ellis played because in truth my gaze was transfixed by the speed, power and handling of the Rosslyn Park backs. From memory they had a centre who was a bit special and caused Caldy all sorts of problems.

Rosslyn Park had great ball retention, didn't kick and ran the ball from everywhere. At times it was bewildering.

On home plastic they will be a handful

Just to complete the picture Rosslyn Park had 4 changes in their 20 that played their previous game. Blackheath had 6, I cannot answer for Park but Blackheath were all due to injury or availability

I saw the game. Club definitely wanted the win more  and Jake Lloyd on the wing, the pack and Freddie Gabbitas at fly-half were superb. Speed with ball distribution and competitiveness at the breakdown stretched RP to breaking point.  RP employed the rolling maul to good effect in second half but dogged defending by the Club sealed the win.  Game highlights are on YouTube at

Well,well,well,

I now realise just how little I actually know about Caldy. Changed line up on their website and it appears a very large number of Caldy supporters may be going to the Rock

https://caldyrugbyclub.com/2022/04/friday-feeling-1st-april-2022/" rel="nofollow - https://caldyrugbyclub.com/2022/04/friday-feeling-1st-april-2022/

Glad that Caldy have made a statement on air horns they are not funny and not clever .....I hope that the Caldy fans heed the request. I don't want my day out in London to result in a splitting headache

The Roslyn V Caldy game should be a great occasion with a large crowd . . . amazing what promotion ( and relegation) does to the excitement levels . . . . no that the RFU understand that!!!!! From what I hear there will also be a lot of neutral supporters there due to the magnitude of the game!

I don't know how many from Caldy will actually be travelling ....it may be the hundreds suggested but I doubt it ...........so I hope all the neutrals going shout for Caldy we are only a very very small club and we will need all the support we can get....

I know that there has been a bit of a kerfuffle with the travel arrangements .........our Graham was in charge of arranging the tickets to Euston but he delegated the job to Alan Roberts who passed it on to his secretary who must have misheard what was being proposed.

Anyway the up shot is that there are a lot of Caldy folks now spending the weekend in Texas.

Knowing the nature of some of those particular Caldy supporters all I can say is "Huston you have a Problem'

I think the most of rugby and most of London knows there is a game on at the Rock tomorrow. Seriously impressive marketing from Rosslyn Park.....I think they want to win this.

Eddie, remember to take out an additional mortgage before buying a burger.

However, the sit down meal was actually a very reasonable price - though possibly a little late to book it now.

Last time I was there, there was a beer festival on as well.

Some taxi drivers get confused if you ask to be collected from Rosslyn Park FC, especially ones not from London, they do not expect proper H posts and think FC means goals with a net.

Personally, my head is rooting for RP 4-0, as it I think we can beat RP on our visit to the Rock, but cannot catch Caldy if you keep winning. But it would be great to see Caldy make two promotions. Though any of the top six teams would grace the Championship.

The 20 pound Michelin Star Park Burger does include an introduction to the finest wine bars in Mayfair - one can retire to the Clermont Club and discuss the match with A list celebrities who think you are super amazing to coin a cute phrase that they use.

Still reeling from the shock of the game at Blackheath - Park never showed up and our indiscipline kept us from ever getting back in the game. A thoroughly deserved win for them.

As to this week Park has gone all out to bring in support. The U6s and U7s are even playing at half time so there will be a sea of red and white hoops at The Rock.

Last week will have stung the team so I’m expecting to see a turnaround. The Caldy game has been heavily anticipated as a season decider. It definitely is that, until next week when the next game will be viewed as such.

Bishop's Stortford 4-0 Blackheath (not being bitter I just think last week will have taken a lot out of the Club squad)
Leeds Tykes 5-0 Cambridge
Plymouth Albion 5-0 Tonbridge Juddians
Rams 5-0 Birmingham Moseley
Rosslyn Park 5-0 Caldy (hoping sunshine and 3G play their part)
Sale FC 4-1 Cinderford
Taunton 5-0 Chinnor

If I understand it correctly if Caldy get any points today or stop RP getting 5 then the league is in their hands?
