One of the finest players to pull on a Cov, England, and Lions shirt, David Duckham, has passed away, age 76.
Rest easy Dai.

Growing up I had two great sporting heroes - George Best and David Duckham. Very different men but very similar sportsmen. Geniuses. RIP David.

The club has announced that there will be a minute's silence before the game against Jersey Reds this Saturday.
We have seen too many go this season.

Great player. Saw him many times in derbies with Moseley. RIP.

Not so amazing.
Rugby didn't exist pre-professionalism. Didn't you know?

Slow, but it was heading their rugby news by 7.30pm.

Let's not use these memories of a great player to vent about the BBC

I realise quite a few 'names' depart the stage every month, and that we're all heading in that direction, but this is very sad news...

What a great player he was, one of the few beacons of flair and excitement - I'd want to add Andy Ripley to a very small list pronto - in an otherwise dour England side who by their skipper's admission were more famous for 'turning up' than what they did on the pitch.

One of those players who raise the crowd's excitement level the moment they get the ball, along with the likes of - to assemble an international selection of back three players - Blanco, TGR Davies, Geoghegan, Irvine and Campese.

The 'Dai' nickname from Welsh aficionados tells its own story, and those dummies in that match are impossible to forget. It'll be the 50th anniversary of the Baabaa's game in a couple of weeks, with DD having been due to join a celebration lunch with Gareth, JPR, Tommy David et al... the occasion will be tinged with sadness now.

He was also a very entertaining speaker and thoroughly good company. I was at a lunch he attended at Dorking RFC a decade or so back - having done a dinner on the Friday IIRC and was great value.

Condolences to his family and to Cov, who'll feel his loss more than other clubs. I'm glad we (Jersey) will be able to join the tribute when it happens, albeit I'd much prefer it wasn't happening.

Legendary!

A great video followed on YouTube by a speech by John Pullin in Dublin, 2007, re the visit by England to Dublin in 1972 or 3. It must be remembered that David Duckham was instrumental in that game taking place.

A fantastic player. Another sad loss for our game.

Absolutely very sad news indeed. A fabulous player and character. As many have said it brings back so many great memories  of him when I was a youngster.

My condolences to his family, friends and all at Coventry RFC.

RIP Mr Duckham

I remember that when he sidestepped he was almost at a 45 degree angle
