One of the reasons that clubs on the periphery are disappearing from the National Leagues.
No teams from the far North East or North West.
Only Redruth from Cornwall when once there were 3 teams in the National Leagues.

CABs were relegated years ago - before the funding was reduced so that is hardly the reason behind Redruth being the only Cornish side at level 4.

Obviously you don't count Darlington, Blaydon & Tynedale as being in the North East or Sale & Caldy being in the North West - but don't allow facts to distort a good sob story.

In 2011, National 1 had Redruth and Launceston, plus Blaydon and Tynedale along with Wharfedale, which is possibly a worse journey. Plus Macclesfield and Sedgley Park representing North West.

Made for some long journeys.

There are other reasons for clubs to fail, but there is no doubt that if travel is not funded, it hurts a peripheral club more than one from the Midlands.

To be fair he did say”far” north west and north east, by which I would understand Lancashire, Cumbria and Northumberland, not south Manchester.

No it isn’t, it’s south of Durham and Newcastle.

Basic geography, everyone knows Gateshead is in the South, Durham is the far South and the world stops at Hartlepool. :-)

Cumberland has not had a level 3 team since Aspatria in 1992. They then dropped out of level 4 in 2001, having hardly played due to foot and mouth.

Kendal were last in Nat 2 North in 2012, but they re in Westmoreland.

CQ

I see we are really into ‘splitting hair’ territory 😂😂😂. Seriously as a northerner anything North of Bolton is the northern barren lands. Anything due east and north of Oldham, un-civilised wastelands.😂😂😂😂😂 I think it’s called ‘Orkshire’ 😂😂😂

I wonder if the RFU will use this as a measure.😂😂😂

Have great Sunday all

All the best

WB

Technically is it not Berwick RFC who are furthest northern  ‘English’ club side? However  due to their location they play in the Tenant’s league  3.

Great season for the Ravers may I add. Enjoy the next leap up we loved it.

Well deserved.
