RWC 2021
The women's tournament - twelve teams in three pools of four, the top eight ranked teams proceeding to the knock-out stages. |

And who may yet play the final game of rugby at the CBSA? Controversial...

So the QF draw has worked out to keep the top 4 apart, as seeded. That will probably mean 4 one-sided games, but then the real action will start. Shame that England will be playing in the middle of the night until the final (if we get there). Even the final is a bit early - might have to stick to Buck's Fizz or BM until HT at least!

I was talking at work about BBC Sports Team of the Year award. England Lionesses currently have to be favourite. With 6 World Cup Finals before Christmas who will take over the driving seat? Will discuss again Monday. Good luck Roses and T20 team?

The Roses are in the final. The male cricketers are in their final - somewhat emphatically. Our 13-a side "friends" seem to have all three sides in the semi-finals. The footballers are off to Qatar. So obviously Eddie Jones and his boys are the greatest team, due to their excellent results showing how well-prepared they are for next year's world cup.

Glad I didn't see your cricket prediction earlier Tulip, given that at time you made it our bowlers were being flayed to all parts (47 off last 3 overs!) by India...

Commiserations to the Red Roses, and congratulations to the Black Ferns. That was an impressive competitive match worthy of being the World Cup Final. Disappointing that England incurred the early red card but glad it didn't knock the team off their stride.
The Red Roses should return home with heads held high and the intent in their hearts to set things right in 2025.

Have to beg to differ on some points Steve: England were knocked off their stride - I think they would have won easily without the RC. They played with heart throughout, but unfortunately the T-CUP mantra of 2003 wasn't evident in the closing stages, when there were gilt-edged chances to win the game. Such a well-resourced and dominant side should have delivered the trophy, and it's very disappointing this didn't happen. The 'we go again next time' line is one that's often clung to in a losing context, but it's not much consolation when it's 3 or 4 years away and several of the best players of today will have long since hung up their boots by then. Several other countries may well have caught up by then, which in many ways is good if future tournaments are more competitive than this one, but won't increase chances of another England team lifting the trophy. Sorry if the above is a bit harsh, there seems to be a tendency that people go easier on female professional players & their coaches than in the men's game, not sure why. It was a magnificent, compelling game, but that's limited consolation (to me, others are free to feel differently) when you lose.

would also add - I thought the ref Hollie Davidson was excellent in a pressure game. What quibbles I had with the officiating stemmed from 'over-contribution' from the TMO - tv officials seem to think they have free rein these days to stick their oar in for every knock-on, lineout etc. Some of the more confident refs (Barnes, Pearce, Owens) tend to assert their authority & point out who's in charge...

Agree about the TMO. Contribute when asked by the Ref or for foul play but not for a was it touched or not a couple of minutes later. Games will last 2 hours if TMOs have to intervene for every little action.
