The point is neither Warriors nor Wasps are a club, and has not been for a long time.
A club is owned and controlled by its members.
They are companies owned and controlled their owners.
The fans are just customers.

Worcester FRC is next door, and I am assured that although they have a footpath to the far pitches that runs over Warriors land - they own the freehold to their clubhouse and pitches and so will not be dragged down.

Of course, it is the staff who suffer.
So rugby will continue in Worcester, albeit at regional 2.

"There is a general consensus among the clubs that the Premiership Rugby product is not the problem but the financial model needs close attention."

The product is the problem, it's too expensive

Unfortunately last nights game between Newcastleand Bristol summed matters up. A 'crowd' of 4,000 witnessed over 20 handling errors in 80 mins, with numerous players being paid well over £200,00 /yr each.

There needs to be some reality at the RFU and the Players Union over squad sizes and individual renumeration. The game would be much healthier, if some of these fringe players were let go and became part time players in the Championship, on sensible salaries.

Equals part time and career development elsewhere for post playing career. Opportunity for RFU RPA etc to own this - or do they already do this?

Owners claim players 'would not accept any pay cut'

Quote
Worcester Warriors' owners have accused some players of "not accepting any pay cut", with the club's future at risk.

And they said the Premiership side did not have enough regular fans to be "financially viable".

The statement on behalf of Colin Goldring and Jason Whittingham was in response to a TV interview by captain Ted Hill in which he said the owners should apologise for the club's state.

Not necessarilly.

A Premiership side has an income of just over £10m.
If the players and coaches were on £50 to £100k rather than on £250k the finances could work.
Without any players going part-time.

Of course, many players would leave for France, or to go home the Southern Hemisphere.
And because every club wants to win, none is prepared to blink.

The salary cap was meant to solve this, but it had so many exceptions, most clubs were spending nearly £10m on players and more on coaches and backroom staff.

Bath head of rugby Johann van Graan is looking to make a statement in the transfer market to get his side back on track this season according to the latest reports with the South African set to land four of suspended Worcester Warriors' biggest stars, with four loan deals expected to be done this week.

Worcester in court tomorrow.

Wasps were due to call in the administrators tomorrow, but have asked for an extension, there is apparently a potential fool, sorry investor.

WRFC Players Ltd wound up in High Court

Quote
Worcester Warriors players and staff are to have their contracts terminated, following part of the club being wound up in the High Court.

HMRC had been pursuing the club, who are suspended from all competitions, for unpaid tax of around £6m.

Judge Nicholas Briggs instructed that WRFC Players Ltd, through which players and staff are paid, should be wound up.

A winding-up petition against WRFC Trading Limited, which remains in administration, has been suspended.

The four players who went out on loan to Bath on Monday and the rest of the squad are now free agents so can sign for any club.

The club had no representation in court.

.....

It is understood Warriors could now have their suspension from the Premiership and other competitions extended until the end of season - and suffer relegation to the Championship.

But, if a buyer is found by the middle of this month, they could still save their place in the Premiership.

Awful for all staff, players and suppliers . . . I do hope no one supplier goes bankrupt as a result and that all staff and players find alternative employment, goodness knows where 50 professional players find contracts! I hope the two asset strippers and duly affected in some material way!

The sad thing is that the people least likely to suffer from this whole business are the two owners.

How long before they re-appear with other companies causing suffering and misery?

I know that Club DoRs are talking to Steve Diamond about new contracts for his players, particularly the Academy players who earn the least.

Going forward, there has to be an Ownership test, however, the RFU doesn’t have control, that is down to PRL whose credibility has disappeared.

What a shambles! Highlights just how many loopholes there are in company ownership and accounting law.
