Trying to bridge the gap between 7s and the full game it would seem:

Interesting. This is what the Press Association’s England rugby correspondent said about it:
World 12s rightfully getting an underwhelming response from World Rugby and Premiership Rugby. Both were only told about it yesterday despite the claim by World 12s that "early and informal discussions" have been "constructive" |

It'll be Interesting to see where the financing is coming from for this and how the countries with central contracts react.
Quite frankly I can see very little benefit overall apart from those players at the top of the game (the ones already earning good money) will get more chance to maximise their earnings. Current thinking in all sports seems to be to plough money in to all sorts of 'exotic projects' rather than giving anything to the grass roots which actually support the whole thing

Based on the "success" of the IPL and the Hundred in cricket. Success for whom?
I understand the need for flexibility in the way we play but don't the top players already have enough commitments?

hmmmm...... Two months ago...... Lions Tour can't be moved to next summer because....... World Cup in 2023, Calendar already over stretched, player welfare........... now from left field.
World 12s, let create something in late off-season/early pre-season in the Northern Hemisphere and middle of the Southern Hemisphere seasons and get some Broadcaster who normally won't touch rugby comps and waste a load of someone else's money. World Rugby and all the Unions should say "no way= Richie" We already have a T20 version of rugby, its called 7s !!!! |

As with all previous posters I can't summon up the tiniest bit of enthusiasm for this. Can we sort out our domestic rugby first please - really complicated stuff like how many teams are we going to have in the Championship and Nat1

Looking forward to see what comes of this.
IMO 7s is a class game that needs it own governing body, not seen as much 10s, 12s could be interesting - believe 15s has got way too comfortable in its ways, and perhaps this is the sort of coporate event it needs to get it's act together, can see so much potential with this in the 7s game. I wish the 12s event all the best.

We are all for player welfare, unless we can make money. All the unions are broke, so while this should be squashed, it will be welcomed with open arms. We already have 7s, 10s, do we need 12s. |

Six forwards eh? Why does that ring a bell?

That's easy for you to say.

Ad a player and we almost have rugby league?
I wonder if it is less to bridge 7s - 15s gap and more towards creating a clearer cross over pathway between the codes

Go to eleven, allow infinite substitutions, perhaps permit one forward pass per play.

Rugby league crossed with 7s. Beware the thin end of the wedge!
Cannot summons up the interest to even read the small detail. Already too much mediocre, meaningless rugby over playing the players without this dross. The downward spiral continues. |

Agree completely Bin Licker - just fiddle with the format to come up with something that makes money so we can plough it all back into the National teams and top Leagues. Couldn't give a monkeys for anything below the elite

People like Ian Ritchie have already done enough damage through sheer greed and should be chased harder than ever from the game.
Capitalism is slowly but surely killing everything off on the planet and it’s attitude towards sport is right up there with everything else

No thought for player welfare . . it might be a fun game, I played vets 10's and loved it but we have two great games . . 7's and 15's . . .strangely if you reduce the number of replacements in RU, 5 for injuries only, the game will become more open and less attritional . . so more fans! JUST Market the game better!

Run with it

The national unions need to behave exactly as UEFA did towards their proposed rebel league. Kill it off early by threatening players with bans from national selection.
