As revealed last week, the start of the tournament will be delayed until at least February in order to allow everyone to stat on an equal footing. |

Some prospects for some entertaining match ups, Group 3 looks a tough one.

I wonder how Canterbury will feel about travelling all the way to Worthing?

A distance about the same as Barnstaple to Redruth. |

Its a great tournament format and would form the basis of a much better competition for NCA clubs than the present set-up and indeed the proposed changes. It's basically a smaller group option to that proposed by Preston Grasshoppers which suggested 4 national groups followed by play-offs.
But don't think the delay is wise as with Covid cases going up nationally (not in Cornwall yet - still going down) clubs are going to be moving to higher tiers of restrictions, not lower. Would have been better to KO as planned with the initial fixtures based on fixtures that are possible now, tiers 1 & 2 able to play against each other and Tier 3 clubs to play each other.

Probably better than Worthing, travelling into tier 3 for their away games! |

That would have been a good idea, or do groups based on tier levels. |

It may be a good structure for part of a season - but it is not a
full 28 or 30 games and I do like watching rugby. So I would like more
than six home games. For this season it is better than nothing. Also,
we are mixing level 3 and 4 sides - including Leeds and the sides
promoted from level 5 - and whenever anyone suggests doing that someone
starts talking about dangerous mismatches - without scrums and mauls
that is probably safer. And there is the
problem. Everyone wants competitive games against a range of opponents
and a full season with the least travel and at that is one constraint
too many. You might be able to manage three of them at a pinch, but even
then there will be problems around Cornwall, Cumbria and the Islands. It is a question of which of the constraints are you prepared to loosen. The
structure also has to work for the remaining championships sides - now
shorn of most of their RFU funding and possibly without Saracens and
Ealing off to an enlarged Premiership. |

The Canterbury President was quoted in TRP not wanting anything that wasn’t local. I don’t think anyone can make predictions about Tiers post-Christmas. Most of Surrey has falling infection rates but we have a lot of students due home which may change that. We have 6 weeks to get things sorted!

Unfortunately, there was an article on BBC news site which indicates that scientists are pressing for some areas to go from tier 2 to tier 3 on Wednesday - but also advising that no areas should have tiers lowered. |

Isn't that something that happens in pre-season friendlies anyway?

I think the efforts made by both the RFU & NCA are admirable, however with the current Teir levels and the restrictions that are about to be implemented, this competition is not going to happen.
The Government making a furlough promise to the end of April in November was no doubt SAGE driven. Let’s concentrate on the 21/22 season and write off the remainder of this one.
