Teams just cancel the match to forfeit them!

A joke. Neither Bath nor Worcester deserve to stay up with the seasons that they've produced.

Quite agree - what a farce, and the shape of things to come if we get ring fencing.

Bill Sweeney is in the Rugby Paper today saying that although there has been no agreement reached the premiership clubs are happy to discuss the 10,000 ground capacity requirement and a possible reduction to 5000. These discussions will take place in December 2022 and if agreed could be in place by February 2023. My personal opinion is that there will be no promotion this year as the RFU and PRL will find away to win any legal challenge. Recent media reports from Rob Baxter at Exeter and now Sweeney as part of his 6 nations review agree that players in the premiership are playing too much and the proposed increase in teams is a mistake. I can see a proposal coming from PRL that their 'A' teams will play alongside championship clubs in 2 regional leagues. There will be play offs with the eventual winner should it be a championship side playing off against the bottom placed premiership side. The premiership clubs will benefit financially by having additional home matches and championship clubs will get an increase in funding when the 'A' league rights are sold as part of an enhanced TV deal.

If the Championship rights are not a sellable commodity, why would the addition of Premiership Academy sides make it any more so? Interesting that some think the increase to 13 or 14 teams in the Premiership is a mistake, thought this was introduced so that the 13 shareholders would not be relegated? |

This is so infuriating what’s the point of leagues if they mean nothing at the end of the season there is no competition and where are all these academy players suddenly going to appear from that they can play in the Championship as that would mean lots of current clubs would lose a few (or more) of their squads. Looking at Nat 1 Plymouth have travelled with 18 player squad this season 3 times as no DRs were available and that would probably increase

The TV rights would be an add on to the premiership package. A similar deal was in place when sky had the rights but unfortunately the championship clubs saw very little financial benefit.
The premiership clubs are asking for an additional £1M funding to increase their squad size to play these 'A' team games.
This is all part of the premiership setting out their stall as Sweeney has stated that he wants the academy players to get more game time although neither him or PRL want that to be under the ownership of championship clubs. |

Rabbie Burns asks where the premiership academy players are going to come from.
The Premiership clubs have answered that - the extra £1m per club per season they have ordered the RFU to take away from the rest of rugby and pay them for the privilege of supplying these players.

Sounds like another way to get around the salary cap. I seriously doubt that this will come to pass given the RFU is cutting funding so finding an extra £13/14 million to fund A sides is improbable - unless the TV money is going to cover it (highly doubtful) Also this would mean Premiership A teams with £1m budgets in the same league as Championship teams with less than half that - hardly a level playing field |

The Premiership sides have not shown much interest in level playing fields, except as a mechanism to exclude Bedford.
