Morning all. Showing my ignorance here, simple question…are there ever any Friday evening games (or Sunday come to that matter).

It’s always been a split opinion at Sixways, and the question has been raised on our rugbynetwork forum.

yes Ted, knights have played Friday nights away this season and our away game at pirates is usually Sunday

I do wonder though if the plan is to move games to Thursday evenings a la ProD2. Obv not until there is a broadcast deal though.

It's a debate at Pirates every season. We had a few Friday evening games. Some people like them and we get a younger average age attending I reckon. Others prefer the traditional Saturday afternoon, and others Sunday. Friday evening downside is that trains don't run late enough to get people home from further up the line after the game. Sunday is preferred by many who support or play for other clubs on a Saturday.

A pertinent question as Worcester don't have primacy of tenure and would have to look at alternatives for when the football club are at home.

Worcester have certainly played Friday nights in the past; I remember a famous Pirates win on a Friday.
We’ve historically played a lot of home games on a Sunday as Stalwart says, but it’s not always been popular with the away side.

Bedford play a handful of Friday night games each season, usually (but not always) on six nations/autumn internationals weekends. We do get slightly higher attendances on Friday nights. Personally I prefer Saturday fixtures, especially as I live/work in London so the Friday night games can be tricky.

Friday nights can be a real P I T A , for semi-pro sides who have to get time off work on the Friday afternoon Not always a gimme

Thursdays would present the same problem

The majority of Nottingham’s matches are Friday nights- usually because of the proximity of the two football clubs which usually play Saturdays.

Chinnor typically play two home Friday Night Lights games each season, and had a third this year with the Not The Prem Cup match against Cambridge. Friday night away games were played at Pirates and Nottingham

Thank you all for the input. Primacy of tenure, for those who might be confused by the comment, has been granted to Worcester City FC, who have a 5 year contract to play at Sixways starting this coming season.

The FA rules require this at their current level in the structure. Their tenancy revenue is clearly important in making Sixways pay for itself.

Interesting. Is primacy of tenure still a criteria for Premiership rugby?

From a Coventry point of view Friday evenings have usually been viewed as a necessary requirement on isolated occasions; I resisted using the words necessary evil purposely, but it has always been close to that.
3,000 plus Saturday gates this season rather adds fuel to our argument as to when best to play. We seem to manage that level too most times when Cov City are at home.

Good question, I was going to ask the same. Fairly sure it still is, but stand to be corrected.

I though that’s what London Welsh challenged in court and won

I do enjoy the a few Friday night home games but wish they kicked off at 8pm and not 7:45pm. Those extra 15 mins helps get there in time and through the gates!

I attended Friday night lights at Chinnor. Really cold, but it seemed to bring out a younger demographic.

It would have been just as cold on the Saturday afternoon !!

Friday nights also seem to attract quite a number of visitors from other local clubs who would be playing or watching their side the next day

Yes. Primacy of tenure long since gone.

How the FA still apply it might be interesting!

My Understanding is that the RFU insisted that sides play at least either 2 Friday night games or for those without floodlights Sunday afternoons. What arrangements the new set up has I am unsure but no RFU intervention now. Bedford try to avoid clashing with England home games
