Apparently the fixture has been moved to Monday night to allow supporters to attend. Hope other clubs follow suit. https://www.saracens.com/ampthill-home-match-moved-to-welcome-supporters-back/" rel="nofollow - https://www.saracens.com/ampthill-home-match-moved-to-welcome-supporters-back/

They obviously feel that they need support from a home crowd.

Brilliant news all round. Not sure how many fans will be allowed in but the more the merrier. The Ampthill lads will need all the help they can get and a live crowd, albeit Saracen-heavy, will stoke up the andrenalin massively for what is without a doubt the biggest competitive match in Ampthill's history. It's a shame it is taking place 200 miles south from where I live.

Football is limited to the lower of 10,000 or 25% capacity - see no reason Rugby shouldn't be the same.
Interestingly, football has decided to exclude away fans.

If there's 2000 allowed in at Saracens, perhaps we'll be allowed a similar number at Coventry the week after, which would be good.

Capacity at Saracens is significantly reduced due to redevelopment. 2000 probably is 25% of current capacity.

Little to no chance I feel. I'm guessing 50 percent of seated capacity as an absolute maximum, so maybe around 1400 (check with Eric though as I'm not certain what the current capacity of the stand is since removal of seats from the original circa just under 3000). Wouldn't be surprised if it's only 1000 to 1200 though. At least they are saying that us ST holders get priority, so I'm hopeful!

Trying to find out ground capacities for anything other than football is, predictably, difficult. A lot of football clubs would be regarded as large venues and would fall into the 10,000 or 25% (whichever is lower) category.
As far as I can see however, pending an update on May 10th, smaller venues will be allowed 4,000 or 50%, whichever is lower. I'm guessing seating arrangements etc will also be taken into account so that number may be lower.
I think 'large venue' is defined as 16,000 or more so the Stone X capacity being capped as 2,000 must be down to redevelopment as you say...

I was hoping this fixture was reversed so we'd see the future Lions of Farrell and Itoje running through the woods. But still great that fans will be able to get in.

I had a mail through from Ealing's ticket department to say that they are currently unsure if they are allowed to allow standing spectators, so still some bits in the air I think.

Update from Cov is that they are:
'liaising closely with the city’s Safety Advisory Group and all other relevant authorities and are awaiting full guidance from the Government before tickets go on sale'.
So no decision until after the 11th.

Interesting that there'll be some standing. Perhaps I need to up my estimate for the BPA then.

Yes, such as a postponement on plastic pitch.
Lightning being the key word.

I don't know what the final score is going to be, but Saracens are going to know that they played a match tomorrow. Ampthill are hitting like sledgehammers, I thought that Jackson Wray was going to be ripped in half.

Bonus try for Saracens but somebody called Farrell misses the conversion. 26-7
|
Posted By: Cherub
Date Posted: 17 May 2021 at 20:16
So as to give the Saracens a chance, the As are down to 14 men for 10 minutes. And Saracens score their fifth try immediately.
33-7
|

And that is half time. 33-7.

Apologies to Knightsboy for gatecrashing.
|
Posted By: Cherub

The As didn't turn up for the first 20 minutes, but then they had the most of the play for the next 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the quality of the Saracens boys means they know how to defend, and then turn it over, and then score. Just about every time.
|

A fairer score at half-time would have been 26-14, but as we all know, rugby is not fair.
|

So, the first 40 minutes saw 40 points scored. No reason why the second half shouldn't produce the same. So I predict a final score of Saracens 33-47 Ampthill.
|
Posted By: Cherub
Date Posted: 17 May 2021 at 20:34
And just two minutes into the 2nd half and Farrell crosskicks to the left winger to catch and score. 40-7
|
Posted By: Cherub
Date Posted: 17 May 2021 at 20:39
Now their full back joins in the scoring. 47-7

Ampthill continue to do their best. Their tackling is ferocious. But the Saracens class is always showing through.

Another rolling maul try, so....59-7

Spoke far too soon. Ampthill score their second try from a neat chip through.
59-12
|

A piece of Alex Goode magic and Saracens score their first try for what seems ages. Conversion missed. 64-12

Well played Ampthill, could well have been a season-high number today against the Lions contingent et al, but that remains 75-19 Ealing v Hartpury I think.
Ealing remain 5pts ahead of Sarries, with a pts diff advantage of +51, but only one game left. Interesting to see if Donny and Cov can upset what most observers see as the likely PO 'match-up' when they take on the top 2 this Sat.

I really wish they could, but with all due respect, I'm not sure we will see the result we all want.
I do hope Hartpury College can prove me wrong.

It will be interesting to see how many of Saracens superstars are prepared/ asked to play twice in 5 days. Cov were very competitive against them when their England players were on duty and we are a much better team now.
