Good afternoon fellow Rugby Union fans from far and wide for the final time this season to, what I, without any hesitation, believe is the best league in the whole pyramid.
We bid a sad farewell to Darlington Mowden Park and a happier farewell to Richmond, and wish them both the very best of luck next season.
Who will avoid the final relegation spot? Will it be Esher or Leicester Lions, who falls through the trap door. Lions need 2 points for it not to matter what Esher do. All Esher can do is win likely with a bonus to give themselves any hope of an escape, but, as I say, Lions are the clear favourites to survive I would think, but you never know.
As far as my own team is concerned, I think if you would have asked any Roth supporter where we would finish, I don’t think anyone would have said “top 3” but that is what it will be. So I am very proud of the team for a wonderful campaign & I believe that Roth are most definitely on the way back.
I would like to pay tribute to every single team in the league. By and large, anyone could beat anyone on their day, and it has been shown to be true on many occasions this year.
As always good luck to all teams and updates will follow on this thread from 3pm tomorrow.
Nice and easy this week as all the games appear to be kicking off at the same time.
In advance I wish you all a very happy summer and hope that we are all able to re-assemble on here again in September.
The games are :
Darlington MP v Rams
|
Dings Crusaders v Birmingham Moseley
|
Esher v Sedgley Park
|
Leicester Lions v Bishops Stortford
|
Richmond v Blackheath
|
Rosslyn Park v Rotherham Titans
|
Sale FC v Plymouth Albion

Well done RM2 for keeping such a clear and comprehensive coverage of score updates going week in, week out. Thank you for your efforts.
I'd agree with what you saw about the strength of Nat 1 and how most clubs can beat others on their day. Good luck to all tomorrow, but especially Esher and Leicester.

It says 3pm on the Sale X feed.
From their X page:
AboutThe final game of the season is upon us!! 3pm KOSaturday 26th April sees us at home playing against 4th in the table Plymouth Albion. We met in a closely contested game all the way back in round 1, coming away with a narrow 24-28 win. The aim of the game today is to come away with a much bigger winning margin despite them being 3 places higher than us in the league table!

Thank you very much. Two very tight games with Blackheath this season. Mind you the conditions when we played you at Clifton Lane were absolutely atrocious.

Same to you my friend.
My award for the best team we’ve played at Clifton Lane goes to….. Bishops Stortford. 👏👏👏👏. Ps with an honourable mention to Plymouth Albion.

Esher 24 Sedge 0 HT
As expected Esher throwing everything at Sedge including the kitchen sink as you would expect. They are still in the hunt for the bonus point but if they keep up the pressure that will come soon.
Esher support has been very good, they are the collective 16th man.
Sedge have not been at the races so far they need a change of pace and application to stop this turning it a complete rout.

Well done Leicester Lions, they've stuck at it the last few months and well deserved staying up. Unlucky Esher, I'd have thought they'll be challenging to come back up.
Well done to Clifton earning promotion to Nat 1 for next year. Leeds, TJ's and Clifton coming up.

Match report courtesy of Bishops Stortford's site
Stortford well beaten by a determined and well-organised Lions' side, who deservedly avoid relegationThe season ended in anticlimax for Stortford, as their quest for a sixth successive win – not surprisingly - proved less motivating than Leicester’s fight against relegation. The home side deservedly won a game, in which any big match nerves they might have felt were considerably eased by an accommodating opposition. Stortford started loosely and were punished with a try after 4 minutes, when a short box kick out of defence was lost and it took only two phases of play for centre, Jamal Hamilton to be set free to score out wide – well-converted by his fly half, Bouchier. The visitors steadied the ship and the scores were level 11 minutes later, after quick ruck ball close to halfway allowed Dec Murphy to spot a gap on the fringe, dart. The scrumhalf darted through and used his pace to round two cover defenders for an excellent solo try, converted by Mike Cooke. The hosts were ahead again 10 minutes later, though. A series of powerful thrusts at the line had been held out by stern Stortford defence inside their 22, but they had no answer to a pinpoint crosskick, which was fielded comfortably by the tall home winger over the head of a retreating defender and touched down unopposed. Bouchier added an excellent conversion. Leicester’s focus seemed to falter briefly 4 minutes later, when simple, quick passing down the Stortford backs was enough to put Chris Smith over in the corner for an unconverted try. Up against it in the scrums and still not firing on all cylinders, though, Stortford conceded a further try all too easily. Passive tackling required too many defenders to stop a couple of aggressive runs, allowing Bouchier easily to find space and dummy his way over for a try, which he was unable to convert. The visitors ended the half under the cosh again, but were spared from conceding further points by a clumsy Leicester knock on. Stortford started the second period even more slowly than the first and conceded another try within 2 minutes, with Bouchier again given acres of room to cut through and feed Hamilton for his second touchdown – this time under the posts to take his side into a 14 point lead. The visitors struck back 8 minutes later, with Isaac Bell plunging over from the fringes of a try-line ruck from a 5m lineout, but the conversion went wide. Leicester were 14 ahead again after 62 minutes, when more passive tackling from Stortford sucked in defenders, creating an all too easy overlap for their hooker to touch down out wide. Stortford did then manage to exert a rare period of concerted pressure, but the home defence tackled ferociously and were only undone by a clever chip kick from David Hayes inside the opposition 22, which Alex Rayment was able to run onto for a clean try, duly converted by Hayes, with 10 minutes to go. Any thoughts that the many travelling supporters might have cherished of an unlikely Stortford comeback were dashed 8 minutes later, when confusion in their midfield, when in possession inside Leicester’s half saw the ball fall loose behind the support, allowing a couple of home players to hack the ball on for a try out of nothing. Bouchier’s conversion restored the 14 point margin. The visitors did register the final score from a 5metre lineout maul after successive Leicester penalties, with Rayment touching down for his second of the game, but the missed conversion, as time ran out meant that the single, 4-try bonus point was all they had to show for their efforts.
