Ampthill 5 vs 2 Hartpury - Going with home advantage

Cornish Pirates 4 vs 1 Ealing Trailfinders - could well be a defining match for the Pirates

Jersey Reds 5 vs 0 Richmond - Can't see Richmond getting any change from this

Bedford Blues 5 vs 2 Nottingham - Could be a very close game and the Archers could nick it

Coventry 1 vs 5 Doncaster Knights - perhaps being one eyed but feeling positive

London Scottish 2 vs 5 Caldy - Caldy to take one on the road

Onward and Upwards C'mon Donny!

Amps 4-1 Pury Home advantage just enough two well matched teams
Pirates 1-4 Trailfinders Surely tie of the round and could go either way
Jersey 5-0 Mond - Expect lots of changes from the home squad but their forwards strong this season
Blues 3-3 Archers Two cracking sides who play to win I hope they stream this one
Cov 0-5 Donny - Banker away win and start of a big push by Donny
McQuins 5-2 Caldy - Probably a defining match for both teams and could go either way

Dont kick it. Pick it up and GO FORWARD.

Ampthill 5-2 Hartpury. Always keenly contested and high scoring.
Pirates 0-5 Ealing. I think Ealing will just keep steam-rollering on wherever they play.
Jersey 5-0 Richmond. I anticipate a home banker.
Bedford 5-2 Nottingham. Two smashing games in Bedfordshire this week.
Coventry 1-5 Doncaster. Unless Coventry really turn up, then it might be closer.
L Scottish 4-1 Caldy. A possible bruising game.

Ampthill 5  1 Hartpury  - Home advantage . . close encounter

Cornish Pirates 0  5 Ealing Trailfinders  - Ealing take it up a gear

Jersey Reds 5  0 Richmond  - Reds just so strong this year

Bedford Blues 5  2 Nottingham  - should be an exciting game . . could go either way

Coventry 4  1 Doncaster Knights  - Home advantage

London Scottish 1  5 Caldy  - Caldy will have targeted this game .

Ampthill 4 vs 1 Hartpury… close game this. I agree with others, home advantage sneaks it, but if Hartpury play all of their PL players, then this could easily be reversed.
Cornish Pirates 0 vs 5 Ealing Trailfinders… Ealing will be looking to be top of the tree come Christmas. However, those pesky Pirates do like an upset don’t they?!!
Jersey Reds 5 vs 0 Richmond… I think that it will be tight for an hour with Jersey pulling away in the last 20
Bedford Blues 5 vs 2 Nottingham… This should be an absolute crowd pleaser. Lots of points/tries, this will go to the wire.
Coventry 0 vs 5 Doncaster Knights… So sorry, missed this one. Another cracking game in prospect and I think that it will be tight, but The Knights forward juggernauts will be the deciding factor.
London Scottish 1 vs 5 Caldy… This will probably be the basement decider (well, a good indicator at least) and I think that the newbies will take the spoils

Predictions:
Ampthill 4 v 1 Hartpury - There’s never much between these two teams - going with home advantage.
Cornish Pirates 1 v 4 Ealing - This will be a severe test for Ealing and they could easily lose, but I just think the extra quality will tell at the end of the game. Pirates to lead after 60 minutes but get pipped.
Jersey 5 v 0 Richmond - Banker home win, Reds far too strong.
Bedford 5 v 2 Nottingham - Genuinely, I don’t have a clue about this game!. Both teams can be brilliant and dreadful in equal measure. I was tempted to pick Nottingham but Bedford always score loads of points at home. Home win but I think 4 tries each is a certainty.
Coventry 1 v 4 Doncaster - Coventry away is never an easy game but Donny have got a bit of momentum going. Similar to CP/Ealing, if the real Knights team turns up, I expect us to win this one.
London Scottish 5 v 2 Caldy - I hope I’m wrong but LS will have targeted this game and they did play quite well in the Cup Block. A revival could be getting started. Caldy will get points out of the game though.

That is a proper spanking. Coventry obviously turned it on and Donny couldn’t match them. That was a very strong Donny team on paper as well. Butts Park is not our favourite away ground for definite, thatā€˜s the last 2 years on the bounce we’ve been belted.

Cov won't go on to win the league this season, but it would be good to keep 3rd place, and push Jersey for second.

As for grounds, No. I suspect that the Broomfield Park side of the ground development, currently pending due to the economic situation would be brought forward to hit 5001, and we would look at hiring the CBS arena for a local M69 derby against Leicester.

i watched the Jersey/Mond match today and felt the 5-0 result actually flattered Jersey who never really fired and Mond worked their socks off throughout. I then legged it home to watch the streamed Pirates/Trailfinders game which was really tight but Ealing did what top sides do - they grind results out when things don't go your way and win. In fact, they did as good as they possibly could and got all 5 points - brilliant game to watch. Massive wins for Cov and McQuins. Great league this!

Sorry Cov no disrespect you played well, your 10 had a corker of a game. Your 15 too.

However I stand by the fact that we were awful - I dread to think what our line out stats were, at least a dozen line outs mis-thrown / mis- timed. And yes on paper we looked a strong side who didn’t even produce an average game which was embarrassing for the team and the supporters. All said and done we didn’t deserve to come away with any points and Cov deserved all the spoils.

Really enjoyed the Reds v Richmond game - we were really tested esp during 'middle third' of the 80 mins, but played some pretty tasty rugby during both of 'our' thirds...

And great to welcome a large contingent of visiting supporters. The post-lunch/pre-match address by El Prez of RFC 'Millsy' is among my highlights of the season and he was in vintage form yesterday; I took my position at 3pm with sore sides... LOL

M728 & OG sadly missed...

One thing on Cov v Donny. We've all been involved in 40-point drubbings (win & lose) - feel it's naive for the winners in such a situation not to expect supporters of the losing team to criticise their own players' performance (but you'd hope they would also give credit to their opponents)

I have to say my initial post was just me frustrated and wanting to vent that frustration (i.e. god awful) - I had at all points in time intended to come back with a more balanced report but had to vent that frustration. As my later post suggested we did not deserve anything from the game, Cov did the business and I wouldn't mind their 10 playing for us, on that form (even though he missed a few kicks - noting the angles were wide and I think the wind was misleading so that may well have had an adverse impact on those stats).

I know our lads will be hurting after that one and will be wanting to put things straight - unfortunately, for London Scottish that may well be this coming weekend. And we look forward to welcoming Cov to Castle Park on the 25th March to exact our revenge (.....hopefully).

Likewise when you come back on a high after a game it's easy to think that your team's performance is being downplayed.  I know, however, how it feels to follow your team away and them not meet expectations!
Clearly Saturday's game was a combination of one team being below par and another team playing their best game in a long while.  Remember though, Cov did need to put in a huge defensive shift on several occasions to keep Doncaster out.  On another day those tries might have been scored and the momentum shifted.
Roles can quickly become reversed and the game at Castle Park will no doubt be as tough as ever.

I fear that we may be looking at another season similar to the one where Richmond went down due to Hartpury fielding something in the way of 13 dual-reg players to ensure survival on the final day of the season. A sad, sad moment in rugby, and one that I hoped wouldn't be repeated.

At least Cov left the Donny try in. I know of others that exclude the oppo's tries...

🤣🤣Never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Caldy got played off the park by the same group of players that have played the rest of the league games. The starting XV, bar a lad picked from Wasps and a young centre from Edinburgh have been playing for Scottish since the start of the season.

If fairytales make folk happy then carry on 🤣🤣

Wow! Pick the bones out of that lot.
Probably the Pirates try for me, but the other 3 ran it very close (if you’ll excuse the pun).

You neglected to say how many of the group of lads, who have played all season, are dual reg or loan players
I'm not complaining, because it's obviously within the rules of the league

Just shows the quality in this league - cracking tries every one.

Ealing’s length of the pitch Hail Mary try to get the BP didn’t even get a look in - speaks highly of the quality of the others.

For what it's worth, my question was actually no more than retrospective one to Member728 who qualified his prediction with the possible absence of the "McQuin"s and other loans and dual regs who you report as playing for the Exiles all season 😲

Do you really select 11 dual regs/loans for every game šŸ™€

The oblique referrals to loans and DRs seem to be totally irrelevant. If the league rules allow any club to field a whole match day squad on that basis then let them get on with it.

Jersey apparently borrowed this lad for a season but despite injuries in the back row i don't think he has turned out for them yet and continues to turn out for Falcons. If McQuins or any club play a raft of borrowed players within the rules its fine by me.

So why refer to them as 'McQuins' then?
Seems a little off to me.

It might be within the rules but totally devalues the league . . .Not what a rugby club should be about in my book!!!! I wonder how many of the 11 dual reg players will look fondly back at their time ( stepping stone) with LS and then subsequently become sponsors, book tables, coach the minis and juniors!!!!

The rules are written to get the academy players onto the pitch to try to accelerate their development into internationals. Not that Eddie would pick them.

Those players came from local clubs and - if it were not for the Academy system - would have probably moved to a national League or Championship club

The good ones do not get loaned out for long, if at all.
Marcus Smith walked straight into the Quin's side at 18. As far as I can see, he has worn three jerseys, the quarters, white and red. I would like to see him in black and white, I hope he sticks as he is.

McQuins is not intended to be a prejorative term but rather to reflect the increasingly close ties between two great old clubs.
