Caldy 0 - 5 Ealing - I would have loved to have been at this to see Sam Dickinson play again, as he was club captain a couple of years. I can't see Ealing losing this, but stranger things have happened. C Pirates 1 - 5 Doncaster - Neither team on the same form as last season, but I'm going for Donny with the addition of the excellent Jack Metcalf. L Scottish 1 - 5 Hartpury - Never Scottish, and Hartpury have been looking quite strong as of late.

Caldy 0-5 Ealing. My standard prediction for Ealing. Pirates 4-1 Doncaster. A right royal battle. L Scottish 0-4 Hartpury. Another tightish one but I expect Hartpury to prevail.

Ealing Trailfinders team to face Caldy: Good squad for this game. I'm amazed at the depth in Ealing this year. Interesting to see Gibbo in the starting line up. The only place that I'm not keen on is Hooker, with Campher's line outs being pretty ugly all year. Nice to see Ollie Newman getting a debut. 15. Jonah Holmes 14. Luke Daniels 13. Reuben Bird-Tulloch 12. Pat Howard 11. Cian Kelleher 10. Craig Willis 9. Craig Hampson 1. James Gibbons 2. Jan Henning-Campher 3. Ross Kane 4. David O'Connor 5. Danny Cutmore 6. Rob Farrar 7. Simon Uzokwe 8. Rayn Smid (C) Replacements: 16. Cam Terry 17. Will Davis 18. George Davis 19. Bobby De Wee 20. Jack Digby 21. Jordan Burns 22. Steven Shingler 23. Ollie Newman (*Debut)

Pirates 8 - 8 Knight HT
Pirates had the wind, didnât use it much. Knights playing with ball in hand dominated territory and possession - Pirates defence in the 22 very good. Muddy pitch but a good showing by both teams. Knights just seem to make a few errors at the wrong times. Knights with the wind second half, guessing territory will be the aim.

Not sure why Iâm being attacked here
Ealing win all games with 5 points and havenât really been troubled⌠Caldy 2 wins this season before today and were 11th
Ealing have millions to spend (defending champions), Caldy makinf a few additions to their ND1 squad.
Ealing 24-7 leading
I think this does make it the upset of the campaign.
If you substituted the word Ealing and put Blues⌠I would feel it was an embarrassing loss. Like it was embarrassing the tonking we took in Jersey, as I expect better from Blues.
What it has done is opened the door for Jersey with a home game against Ealing.

Temporary stands needed? | Ealing have an horrendous end of season fixture list with three away games in April at Blues, Jersey & Donny and a sole home match against the only team so far to beat them. IMO they have far and away the most outstanding squad but they must surely focus on always putting their best team out for all the remaining eleven league games and use the cup matches for squad rotation. Jersey rotated their squad selection for the away game at Caldy and were behind at half time but had enough on the bench to ultimately win it. I expect Ealing to lose at least two more matches but still narrowly win the league. Jersey have two huge away games in January and I certainly hope the RFU stream next week's game at Cov. I wonder when Jersey will unleash Toby Venner. Howay Jersey.

I think this result also show the disparity of having a plastic pitch . . . on a windy exposed pitch Ealing struggled, I would suggest that when they meet on plastic Ealing will win by 50.
The same happened about 4 years ago when Richmond beat them at the Rag but where put to the sword at Ealing . . . that loss then cost Ealing promotion, Irish went back up, I wonder if history has repeated itself?
Thats if the is promotion?!!!

- Just to clarify the Red and two yellows at Caldy yesterday:-
- The Red was for a tip tackle and the Referee spoke to his assistant to clarify if it was yellow or red as the player, who was Tipped fell onto his neck it was deemed a red, better for the Referee to speak to his Assistant before making such a serious decision.
- The first yellow was for a late tackle on the Caldy Fly half who had just kicked the ball it was a heavy tackle leaving the player on the ground.
- The second yellow was for the Ealing player taking out the Caldy winger after he had kicked the ball into the dead ball area, preventing him following up and possibly grounding the ball. Again this was a critical decision as it could have lead to a penalty try and was on the last play. The referee again spoke to the Assistant and opted for a penalty and a yellow. Caldy opted for a 5 metre scrum, with Ealing now missing 3 backs, and moved the ball to the winger who was in acres of space to score the winning try. However should he have not scored the referee had already called the Ealing 10 offside so at least there would have been another penalty in front of the posts.
- I think too little credit is given to Referee who managed a very feisty game which was played at a very high tempo by both sides , no quarter was given or asked for. Perhaps the pitch had an influence on the game but rugby was the winner.

There is some validity in this Pappashanga, although not strictly true. The three Championship defeats so far have been at Jersey, can be described as a â stuffingâ for a side that included quite a few players new to Cov, a home defeat, no, another mauling to an excellent Ealing Trailfinders team on our 4G pitch. The defeat at Hartpury was on a plastic pitch moved from the grass due to the frosty conditions that day. Losing to a fired-up and improving â studentsâ side that day was an upset, despite Cov still scoring six tries. An inability to find touch with kicks and indiscipline was also a major factor.
The AGP certainly does help as , I believe, it helps them to play at a faster pace. IMHO.
Also, a previous poster hoped that it could be televised or streamed live on Saturday, Cov v Jersey Reds. I am not averse to this but hope, if it is, any announcement could be held back to later in the week as we want to get people attending and see it live.
Cheers all.

I donât know for sure, but canât recall bottom beating top* at a meaningful stage of the season (possibly itâs happened in 2nd or 3rd round but wouldnât count that). Reds v Ealing shaping up as a great contest, but itâs a LONG way off & the idea that both sides can win out for rounds 12-20 inc, setting up a title/decider, seems fanciful to me. Both will face some tough tests before then & the Reds donât have to look far ahead for such a game: away in front of a pumped-up crowd on the artificial turf at the Butts next Sat, taking on a team whoâve won 8/11 & are only 1 place, 2 wins & 8 points behind the Reds - I dare say Cov might just be up for it.
EDIT - * Caldy weren't bottom at 2.30pm, they were 11th. But still...

I donât know for sure, but canât recall bottom beating top at a meaningful stage of the season (possibly itâs happened in 2nd or 3rd round but wouldnât count that).Reds v Ealing shaping up as a great contest, but itâs a LONG way off & the idea that both sides can win out for rounds 12-20 inc, setting up a title/decider, seems fanciful to me. |
And 28th Jan Jersey come to The Mennaye! |
Exactly Stalwart - Redsâ remaining away games are Cov, Pirates, Donny, âMond & Blues⌠piece of cake!!  | This is the whole point. This is why we love rugby and sport in general. It is so unpredictable and exciting. This weekend Caldy beat the 100% league leaders and in other news Stevenage won at Aston Villa in the FA Cup. The powers that be at the RFU have got to realise that there is serious talent and excitement outside of the PL. Exploit it properly (and I mean promote etc.) distribute fairly (by that we all understand that the PL should get the lionâs share, but not all of it) and the paying public will come back and watch this awesome sport. So sad that they canât see this!

Given their lack of practice at responding to a defeat full credit to Ealing supporters posts on here and to Ben Ward.

I spoke with Ben Ward after the game. He was gracious and philosophical in defeat as were the Ealing supporters I talked to who had made the long journey to Paton Field. As the Ealing players left the field and walked up the steps one of the Ealing players acknowledged the impact of the crowd and gave the Caldy supporters due credit.
Good rugby people

The reaction from the kids is truly wonderful. There must be one or two future Caldy players in the making.

Almost certainly. 6 of Saturday's squad were Caldy Minis and Juniors and a few of the others came from other Wirral clubs
