Will National 2 North have to absorb both Hull & Leeds Tykes for season 23/24?
If so how?

Someone will probably have to go west, Chester probably although South might be less miles to travel.

Perhaps Henley & Dorking go west

Yes, unless either Club calls it a day (Yorkshire Clubs have been wondering which one might go first).

Chester are already expecting to make way should both stay with us.

Yes, I too have heard various rumours but without any solid varification.

There are rumours again of the two Hull clubs merging, whilst few see the point of Leeds continuing. No assets, no ground, relying on students to field a side etc.

Also whats happening with Otley. A good season on the pitch but supposedly they have sold CXross Greem for a retirement home / villager but with no signs of their proposed new ground or indeed, the Otley by pass.

Anyone with more solid information?

Perhaps Worthing before Dorking

The implication of last summer’s restructure was that every summer the Leagues would be redrawn on the basis of distance, dependent on promotion and relegation. It could be very difficult to predict how that will play out unless you have the RFU Competitions Map. I have a Roman Road Map of England, that might help!

Otley are likely to be at Cross Green for (yet) another season.

Well, at the end of the 21-22 campaign we survived to spend another season playing in the north, but I always knew it was just a case of when, not if, we would be transferred west.

I hope we can keep the team together, but I can't blame any of the lads if the travelling south every other weekend is a step too far.  One of the other regulars I spoke to at the last home game reckons we'll be doing roughly double the milage from this year's campaign - how true this I don't know, but we'd be looking at having to stay overnight for a few.

Keeping my fingers crossed for another reprieve, I can't see one coming this time though Cry

The Leicester Lions were apprehensive when they first went south and then west, but it has stood the side in good stead experience wise for next season in National 1, at least the travelling won't be a shock, even if the step up in the level of rugby is.

I'm confused at how with no assets Leeds have managed to survive. How could they afford Phil Davies plus Proctor plus Callard? How could they afford the travel costs? How could they afford some very good players including Okafor and Venables and a couple of late season Bath loanee recruits?

Jasper,

yes, its a very confusing story. They had to leave Headingley and now rent facilities at West Park Leeds - to be fair, good facilities including training, first team pitch and a large clubhouse. I only attended one home game, where they announced a crowd of some 1500 but the true attendance was 500 at most.

Next season travelling costs will be drastically reduced but they seem to be relying on a couple of local sponsors to meet the costs of rent, travel and players/coaches. I believe Callard has now gone.

Jasper,
Your quote above was from Fly Half.

I have heard no more rumour about the 2 Hull Clubs merging. It is not on the cards.

I suspect there is more chance of Cambridge merging with Shelford.

Looking at the map, the fast route out of Chester takes you along the M56 to the M6, then South.
Which almost passes Lymm on the way.

As I believe it is the shortest mileage in the new league, I would not be surprised to see Lymm going South West instead of Chester.

Chester still has trips to Tynedale and Billingham, which would be almost as long as the trips to Bristol. But not the two very long trips to Cornwall or the trip to Exeter.

Camquin, thanks for the maps! Glad the proper job relented to enable you to focus here. I don't know if it's just me but I can't see any dropped pins for 2 North.

Also not that many students either

Jungle drums beating suggesting magheechan is getting the band back together!!!!, Think the idea Leeds are following by going down to a sustanable level while all above them can't work out what the hell they doing season on season is quite a clever one, probably work backwards to maybe Yorkshire one and begin the journey again

Camquin - I fear you may have cast thunderstorms across the Cheshire Plains. A few weeks ago L ymm were celebrating their promotion to NAT2 North so I doubt they even considered that they may be heading west.
There seems little doubt that West will be at least one short, maybe 2, if Taunton escape the drop but yet again we are waiting for what happens above. Even if its just the one, whilst Chester are further South its only by a mile or two and Lymm are perched by the side of the motorway network. Lymm and Chester to West - maybe Hincks and Luff go South East?
Lots of permutations and previously it was the aim to Level-transfer (if I can still use that term) as few clubs as possible - not sure that will be the case this time around

Stinks!!
All to accommodate someone who's gone bust with no ground, no team and (still) no money as far as I am aware
What are the odds they don't have things in place by the deadline
Esher or Taunton relegated for no reason, London Scottish or Richmond relegated for no reason and Championship has to run a team short
Absolute Banker!!

We can't have it every way. If we are having promotion/relegation then let's have it. If we're not, then let's not wait till the Friday night before the last game of the season. The RFU aren't even pretending to be competent anymore.

I am not quite as perturbed as you are. I do agree that the Wasps Phoenix shouldn't get anywhere near the Championship but I do believe the principles of relegation and promotion should be preserved .....I would always prefer to see more teams promoted than more teams saved from relegation.

My logic being that to save teams from relegation does reward failure and it is better to reinforce success.

Having said that I have absolutely no truck with the Wasps Phoenix.......it is a scandal.

I'm with you two esteemed gents.

I would however also relegate the RFU.

To somewhere where their incompetence can't affect anyone other than themselves.

Quick question, on the West map who is the club above the 'r' in Birmingham?

That'll be Newport Salop RFC - the scale on that map makes it look closer to Brum than it actually is.

Ah, ok that solves one issue. I can only count 13 tags - Hinckley appears to be missing or do I need to go to SpecSavers?

It's right there, to the left of the M69.
I hope so anyway as I need to get home in the next month or so...

Oh, I give up. Now realised that Leicester Lions are not on the map because of their promotion, but then I see there are 15 tags on the North map. We don’t know whether Chester or Lymm are going west, so until we know they remain ‘northern’ teams.

Sid James,

Re your reply to Jasper on 19th April.
It is not often that we agree but on rumours of a Hull merger I confirm your thoughts.
We at the Ferens Ground are already planning for next season and looking forward to winning a few games again. Also looking forward to the local derbies.
