I can't see Worcester not being Top 3 or 2. (With respect to Cov, Knights and Bedford)
Too many good signings. Too many powerful forwards and good half backs. The argument about the squad taking time to blend doesn't stack up. Too many experienced Pros in there. The question for me is whether they have the squad to be as consistent as Ealing.

There was enough evidence for them to be fast tracked into the Championship!

The only reason the defaulters were fast tracked was solely based upon their ground facilities. Otherwise Ealing would be plying their trade in the Premiership 2 seasons ago. The Cartel have clear ground rules to protect the chosen ones. Let’s not all become delusional about the quality of the squad before a ball has been passed. Yes they will be full time which will automatically place them in the top half of the table, together with a core of seasoned professionals. They are odds on to finish in the top 3, unless their coaching staff bomb it as they are completely untested at level 2 rugby.

I think I am worldly enough to know that there is much in what Exiled_Scots said about Sixways. It is of Premiership standard, freehold not tenanted, has full training facilities inside and outside on the pitches and is geographically well situated. It is not an asset that the RFU would wish to lose.
But there is perhaps rather more to it than than that although the use of the word "defaulters" does illustrate something of the "half and half" situation that exists. The company which now owns Worcester Warriors is not the same company which did indeed default on its debts. It is not the same animal and the word "defaulter" is not appropriate in this particular context. But the new company is using the name, logo and colours of the old and for many local supporters the "club" is continuing not where it left off but close. Hence I used the phrase "half and half" - half new, half old. What the future of professional rugby in England is going to be I have no idea. There are many ideas hawked around by journalists but there does seem to be a theme that change, perhaps radical, is inevitable. One journalist recently has suggested that the RFU would very much like to see the top two English leagues fully professional with automatic promotion / relegation built in - in effect the French model. There are others who talk about some form of franchising for a ring fenced, perhaps expanded, Premiership - that would be what some might well call a cartel. You might think that WW appearing in the Champ fits in with the first suggestion. You might think that but I couldn't possibly comment. |

2 big problems. One of which is easily solved, the other not.
Problem 1. Ground regulations. Can be solved with the stroke of a pen if the RFU/PRL wanted to do so. Easy. Problem 2. The French model requires adequate funding of both levels, and relies on municipal stadiums. Not Easy.

Here's the thing - if this is so then why are the "new" club paying the rugby creditors of the "old" club? And why did the "new" club continually bang on about their history and legacy during the application process? Sorry but despite all the propaganda (and the name change) the club now entering the Championship is very much the same rugby animal and the term defaulter is totally appropriate.

I think it’s been well recognised by those following the saga that the payment of ‘rugby creditors” a concept invented by the RFU which has absolutely no legal status whatsoever, has been complied with in order to secure admittance to tier2.
It’s been paid by a new company with new money, and is surely, as has been said many times in many places, better than not paying anyone anything. Astonished that this is being raised again, it’s been done to death.

I seem to remember that the original requirement was that rugby creditors be paid in full before the start of the season. I seem to remember that WW now propose paying in instalments. That's why Too much WW/RFU/Cartel behind closed doors.

For some, this is going to follow WW forever now. There's a group of rugby fans who will never forget Saracens budget overspends. Best to "Shake It Off" and move on.
